TallblondieShow stories

Hi!

I'm a Uni student currently studying part time to finish off a Business Degree (IT and Marketing), as well as a part time Drug and Alcohol Youth Worker. Writing is one of my 'creative outlets'. Other than writing, I draw (pastel), dabble in some photo manipulation via photoshop, and make custom-designed leathercraft items.

Questions about the penname - I'm tall (duh) - 6'2" to be exact, and blonde.

As for my 'real' name - sorry but I don't like to give that out. Most people on this site know me as Blondie. I am also known (on Fanfiction.net and DeviantArt) as Judith-C - so I'll answer to Judith as well.

I may as well add that I live by myself with a cat (Gizmo) and two birds (Sandy and Babybird), about 200 metres from the beach. (Jealous now?) I have a vegie garden on my balcony - and I grow heirloom tomatoes amongst other things...

My writing process:

Everything starts out on paper (and I mean EVERYTHING) - plots, characters, scenarios, timelines, research, words/phrases. For my current fanfic, I have over 50 pages of notes. Each chapter is planned and sequenced (a good way to do things btw). My fanfic is my practise ground for eventually writing a book.

A also have a spiral exercise book for all of my 'ideas' and scribbling. Sometimes things get turned into a story, sometimes they don't. The book is also full of random lines and interesting words. The 'book' is the place for most of my stories to be 'born' from, as I often come up with an embryonic thought that sits on the pages for a while before I do something with it.

Once I have the bare bones of a story (one that is sequenced from beginning to end and has an adequate plot), I type it out. I am a chronic retyper - even though I use MS Word, I still like everything to read 'just right.' I then post when I can't see any typos (by that stage I am blind to them).

I will often rewrite endings. I sometimes write stories specifically for contests. My muse is constantly an annoyance, especially when I'm trying to sleep, or eat, or concentrate in a lecture... I guess you get the point. And don't get me started on plot bunnies... My muse, however, does go on holidays - especially when I'm having a bad hair week or some emotional upset (like a death).

I write short stories inbetween my fanfic and the rather huge Role Play-being-converted-to-fanfic project (that is the one I'm co-authoring - transcript is at 300 000 words and growing by the week), commenting (if anyone wants an indepth critique, IM me and I'll give you one), and running contests.

Projects:

Short-term projects:

[1] Dabbling in various genres by writing short stories.

My aim is to write at least thing from every genre - I think that it will be a good way to see how adaptable my writing style is, as well as what genre I write the best.

[2] My Harry Potter and the Pandora Project Fanfic, also listed on ff.net

Long term projects:

Putting together a book - "Forgetting to Remember" - which melds some of my life experiences with fiction.

The stuff I love:

BOOKS

I'm a huge fan of reading anything good, in particular (these are mostly what my library consists of):

J.K. Rowling - The Harry Potter series - if you haven't already worked out that I am a fan, shame on you.

Can't wait for November...

Terry Pratchett - The Discworld books - also a huge fan.

Lee Child -  Jack Reacher is an amazing character and the books are absolutely jam-packed with action.

Chris Ryan - this author used to be an SAS soldier; now writes these fantastic books AND works as a personal trainer.

Dan Brown - not only was the Da Vinci Code great, but his other three books are just as full of twists and turns - Digital Fortress is my favourite.

Kathy Reichs - She works as a forensic anthropologist and all her books are based somewhat on her real cases. The TV series Bones is based off both the books and her as a writer.

Jeffrey Archer - this guy really has a talent for story-telling - especially his epic 'life story' pieces.

Matthew Reilly - makes me proud to be Aussie. This young writer is brilliant, and his books like sitting down and watching 10 Arnie movies in a row. The books are just pure adrenalin.

Lynda La Plante - good solid suspense/drama/murder mystery/courtroom drama

John Grishom - a solid writer of legal thrillers - no surprise that he used to be a lawyer.

Robert Ludlum - if you love espionage, he's one author you shouldn't miss

For hardcore mystery/suspense, I also love Jeffrey Deaver, James Patterson and Faye Kellerman (she's married to another good writer, Jonathon Kellerman)

For the horror/thriller genre, I love both Stephen King and Dean Koontz. There are many others - too many to name.

MOVIES/MUSIC

I also love movies. The list of fav's is huge, but I like a lot of horror, thriller, suspense, action, psychological, some humour, murder mystery, more action, sci/fi, and unusual (like the Butterfly Effect, or Premonition). I have a taste for select musical theatre, as well as opera/musical theatre singing.

In music I love mostly alternative/indie, metal and rock. I hate - with a passion - country. I will like some songs/artists within other genres but without liking the overall genre. Current fav's include "Bleed it Out" (Linkin Park) and Icky Thump (White Stripes), and a LOT more.

OTHER CREATIVE STUFF

I have a small buisness creating leathercraft (I use the traditional techniques, but have developed my own as well - for instance I'll engrave a rose onto leather, then colour it using my art skills, so that it looks like a real-life painting on the leather.) I custom make a lot of things - people love my personalised keyrings, bookmarks, pouches, wallets, barettes etc. See below.

MISCELLANEOUS

I absolutely love the Far Side cartoons by Gary Larson... (Just a couple of my fav's)

This is my bird, isn't she cute?
