The Legend of Granny Squannitt

The Legend of Granny Squannitt 1

As told to me from my Native American Grandmother2

Many moons ago in a country town of Mashpee Mass lived an old women with 2 children...  It is said that one evening Granny Squannitt took her children for a walk into the deep woods of Mashpee called Edmund's Dream3

(I believe somewhere near the old Indian Church).  Where it is believed that Granny Squannitt buried her children alive and passer's heard the cry of the children in the woods It is said that if you walk near Edmund's Dream late in the evening about the time of the episode you will hear the children cry or scream. 4

The twist to the story is I do not believe that was my grandmother telling me the story I believe it was a young girl from Harwich, Mass.5

Who I believe has witchcraft on my grandmother and her family6

and I have a suspicion that the Tale of Granny Squannit happened in Harwich, Mass. not Mashpee, Mass.  7

It is said that this story has no comparison to what happened to the children in New Bedford, Mass.   The result of teenagers and adults doing witchcraft8

More information about the Legend of Granny Squannit is held at the Mohegan Sun casino. 9
