Engael 004

"Chad!" Ben's voice screamed on the further side of my door.1

Once my ears had picked up his voice, I immediately looked over from the laptop in front of me.2

"Chad!" He screamed in fear. He had begun banging on his hindrance. "Let me in!"3

Barely a second had passed, as I eyed the door making assumptions, before he yelled again in frustration, "Chad, I - need help! Please, let me in!"4

I ran myself to my front door and right when the lock clicked, he switfly stepped inside his safehold. The sixteen year old boy closed it faster than it had opened, and hit the lock sufficiently.5

"Benjamin, what's wrong?" I questioned instantly.6

He brought his young, shaking hands into his blue hair. "I - I don't know!"7

He shook his head in vexation. By the way he had done it, he had shown me he couldn't understand something.8

"What happened?" I jumped into the only reasonable questions. "Why aren't you at school anymore?"9

"I - I killed them, Chad." He bent his head down, letting soft, crystal tears fall. "I killed my classmates. Every last one of them is dead. I just... I don't know!"10

The only thing I could do was stand dumbfounded That statement was appalling.11

"They're... all dead."12

I shook myself from being aghast. I couldn't lose my composure. I hooked my finger under his chin, having him look into my face. "What was your reason?"13

"I don't know!" He growled. It was obvious he wasn't drugged. His eyes were silver and green.14

I was rendered speechless again. I didn't know what to think. Did his classmates anger him, to somehow trigger that dark nature our labs had relinquished to this poor boy?15

"Don't let them take me back to the labs!" He cried, grabbing my shirt tightly. "I don't want to go back! I just can't."16

"Ben," I said quietly. "If there is something wrong with you, you and I both know you have to go - "17

"I know," his voice broke. He threw his face against my chest.18

I was very soft-spoken, "Do you know why you killed them?"19

He shook his head in response. "I - I just blacked out, I think."20

We stood for a moment in pure silence, before Ben butted in.21

"When I woke up this morning," His voice was muffled in my clothing when he began. "I had this really bad headache, but I hadn't bothered taking any drugs for that. When I was in English class, I kind of just... "22

"Just what?" I questioned.23

"Blacked out."24

"Where did you get the weapons?" I urged.25

"I have a feeling I used my own hands for most of them," he sighed in answer. "but I know my English teacher carried a gun."26

"A teacher?" I was perplexed. "Carrying a weapon at a school?"27

"I just - I just know right before I blacked out, there was this noise in my head."28

"Noise?"29

He finally gazed up into my eyes again. "Like, this straining noise inside my head and mine only. It was really loud, and it hurt so much. I couldn't concentrate on a single thing."30

"Is that all you can remember?"31

"Before I blacked out, I suddenly threw my desk up over the kid in front of me. It fell and I just know I began crying into my hands. It's all blank till I woke up and everyone was dead."32

"RINN most likely new about it the moment it started and are out looking for you as we speak."33

"Don't let them take me back, Doctor Gray!" he exclaimed, now grabbing my collar.34

"Ben," I exhaled, bringing my arms around his small body, pulling him close. This boy was my biological son. Why couldn't I just admit that to him? "I work for RINN and if they show up at my doorstep, I have to give you to them. The other scientists are smarter than me. They'll be able to fix your problem before I ever could. Since I'm accustomed to working with lab made engaels, your case is too difficult for me."35

The truth was, I didn't want to watch him go through that hell. Sure, I could figure out his problem, but I didn't want to. It was my fault they even existed.36

"I don't want to be confined to a tube again," he groaned. "You know what they do. They'll press needles into my head day and night, pumping me with drugs with more needles. I don't want to be an engael, Chad. I don't want to know that I was only made into this to serve under my own kind, like I'm just some pet."37

"I'm so sorry, Ben" I frowned. "I really am."38

The 14 man made so called Angels. Engaels. A branch of our government had been making humans unnaturally in labs for years, but they ended up being emotionless. They were killing machines just known as Zenoahs and were made by the hundreds, yet only to be used by the government itself. Dr. Harold Winbourne had created the first Zenoah to hold emotions, real intelligence, with the characteristic to not experience physical pain like the dull ones before its time. He claimed it to be an angel, because it had strength and a mind like no ordinary man could imagine. The first one's name was Zero Engel, which was changed shortly after to Zero Engael. Zero was the only engael to have no defects from his unnatrually given life.39

Our pair stood in place for long moments.40

Out of nowhere, there was a harsh knock on the door.41

"Doctor Chad Gray," A low voiced beckoned beyond it. "We are looking for Engael 004."42

Ben went rigid for a quick second, before he looked at me with a desperate look upon his face. He shook his head and whined. The boy had the mind of just a child at times, maybe since he had spent that childhood not truly living.43

"I'm sorry," I frowned.44

As those simple words were uttered, those eyes widened. Those eyes, the most beautiful I had ever seen. The green and silver of his eyes was filled with fear and misunderstanding.45

The next thing I knew, Ben was silently walking out with Zenoah workers of RINN. The last look I had at him, his face was thrown down and his blue hair lay in front of his eyes. Those eyes had tears running from them.46

Why did I have to cause him pain every moment of his life? Everything that was wrong with him was entirely my fault. Why did I have to be so ignorant those thirteen years ago? I was the one who altered everything about him; his height, build, intelligence, personality, strength, etc. It was all because of me.47

Once the three man made beings had stepped from my apartment, a short, plump man made his own way in.48

"Dr. Pitcks," I nodded.49

"Zero Engael," He nodded back.50

Author notes

I had started a story about this boy a few years ago, but dropped it, and then I saw this contest. It brought little memories back. I thought I would write this scene. For the contest, since it wanted the piece to make sense, I tried to explain some things in there, though in the actual story things are explained very very slowly. I don't usually give information off like it is in this scene.

Another thing for the reader.. Engeals are made in laboratories, but Ben was actually naturally born, hence Chad being his father AND the perfect engael, that is why the labs took him and why Chad became a scientist. ^_^;;

I've been going through this, and there is much I want to edit on it. I don't know if letting you know that would be any benefit to me, but I am redoing a number of things. RAWR. I just thought it needed a lot more time put into it, and I wanted to let you know.
