Shadows on the Wall: A New Beginning

"I had a dream..." a woman whispered.  "What kind of dream?"  A man asked.  "A...  dark dream..."  She said.  "What happened in the dream?"  He asked again.  "I... was a shadow..."  She said while whimpering.  "And I never woke up..."  The man took her hand and gripped it heavily.  "Thats because, Gabriella, your still dreaming..."  She looked up at him and gasped as he touched her sweet lips.  1

Suddenly Gabriella awoke from a nightmare by the sound of a door shut.  She opened her eyes and looked up, seeing her father.  He locked the door and walked into the room, getting home late from work.  He walked to the nightstand next to her bed and sat his sheriff's badge down.  He then pulled out a box of matches from his pocket and lit a candle that also sat upon the nightstand.  The shadows that projected onto the wall were soon about to be something no one would want to see, not the real image and not the shadows of the image.  Gabriella was only so young.  She began to cry quietly, knowing what he was about to do to her, something a father should do to his wife, not his daughter.  Gabriella tries not to struggle fearing that he would beat her as he did the nights before.  The night went on and her mind was broken into shards wishing that the time would just pass.  Soon morning came and Gabriella was once again scarred in her childhood.  She got up, and began to ready for school.  Leaving the house without seeing her father, she ran as quickly as she could hoping to catch the bus.  When she made it to the bus stop she saw a boy sitting on the bench gazing off.  It was her friend Alex, the special boy that she loved more then her own father.  She quietly walked behind the bench and stood there for a moment.  Alex quickly looked over his shoulder to see her.  She looked into his eyes and rushed him with a hug holding tight.  He then let go of her and asked her, "Whats the matter?".  Gabriella whispered speaking over the tears, "He did it to me... again."  Alex knew what she was talking about and became furious.  The school bus pulled up and she let go of him.  They walked onto the bus and sat in a seat far back.  Gabriella sat near the window as Alex sat next to her.  2
