I was stumbling through the hallways of John F. Kennedy Middle School in the year 1999. I was on my way to the last period of the day, which was sixth period. I was talking to Eric between classes when a beautiful brown haired girl walked up to me who I had never seen before, and handed me a folded note with the name Stacy written on it. She smiled at me and I gave her a smile in return. She walked away as her long brown hair swayed behind her. Eric told me that was his girlfriend. The bell rang to go to class. I sat in my sixth period seat and opened the note that Andrea had written to me. After I read it, I was so happy. It was kind of like a dream come true. I had always wanted someone to come up to me and want to be friends, instead of me going to them. I was so excited to the point where I had my butterflies in my stomach. I instantly wrote her back and handed it to her the next day. 2
I would say two or three days after exchanging letters, we got a notebook to write back and forth in. The notebook was full of secrets and private things only we shared with each other. The things that I had told her so soon, I had not even told my friends of five or more years. I trusted her and that was something I did not do often. I've always had a trust issue with people due to being hurt too much in the past. I felt comfortable around her though. Our friendship was incredible.3
Five years passed and we are still best friends. We were never the type of friends to hang out everyday or to talk on the phone a couple of times a week. Within the five years of our friendship, we have only hung out outside of school two times. We have only talked on the phone maybe twice. Even though we have never actually hung out a lot or talked on the phone, we are still inseparable. I love her more than anything. She is not only my best friend, she is my sister. I look up to her like blood. She is something that I have never had before.4
You know when you meet someone and they will be part of your life forever. That is how I felt when I first met Andrea. I knew right away that nobody or nothing could tear our friendship apart. We are too close, it just wasn't going to happen. Still to this day, Andrea means the world to me. Without her, I just wouldn't be me. She is very special and the day that we met will forever remain in my heart and mind. You + Me = Us.5
