Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock. Minutes seem like hours sitting in this small detention room. I'm here because I used my cell phone in class..again. But honestly, is that a crime or something? Cause this place is worse than jail. Besides, I was only checking the time!
I look at the clock for what seems like the hundredth time. It was 2:45. That meant we still had three more hours to go. I sit up straight and look at Chris. Chris Fields is in my english class. He is so cute. I love his blue eyes and his dimpled smile, too bad he is taken. He is sitting on his chair, looking up with his dreamy blue eyes. Aw. Cute. Snap out of it Taylor, I tell myself. I take a deep breath and look on to the other side. I see Haley. Haley is in my english class too, and I hate her. This girl thinks she is popular and so cool, but really, she is just another wannabe ****. I lift my eyes and look ahead, I see Drew Hastings, lying down on the table. I am glad he is asleep. He is Chris's best friend, but he is a jerk. That's it. Only four of us in the small room. I wish I was alone with Chris, but I am not. Might as well make the most of it. But how? I sigh. This is the most boring day of my life. Then I hear his voice. "Yo, Drew." Drew does not respond. For a second I think about calling Drew, but I don't. I keep looking down. Then someone touches me. I see Chris's hand on my shoulder. I look behind to see him smiling. I smile back like an idiot. "Yeah?" "Can you call my friend for me, Tay?" Wow, he knows my name! Even better, he gave me a nickname. I keep staring for a second, then manage to whisper, "Sure." I smile politely. But I want to scream. Best.Day.Ever! ..or maybe not. I start to say, "Dr-" but I was cut off but a thumping coming from behind.
Someone is thumping at the door, and I can swear they are not human. It is growing louder and louder and I can see the cracks in the door. A teacher had locked it before leaving us thirty minutes before. Chris and I look at each other with confused and bewildered looks. "Holy..what is that?" Drew wakes up. Haley starts screaming and Chris gets up in surprise. I have no idea what to do, but I get up too. Then, to our utter surprise, we hear a shrill high-pitched voice. "Yooooouuuu. Yooou have nowhere to run or hide children. Come to me children! We are going to swallow this whole schooool in a split second! Count your last seconds kids! We will get toooo yoooooou. As soooooon as we finish all of the others! And trust me, that won't take loooong." She leaves us all frozen with terror. Drew is shouting all sorts of curses and Haley keeps screaming, "Help! Somebody HELP!" I am frustrated, and I sit down. I start crying quietly. I feel a warm hand on my shoulder. "Hey there." It was Chris. I look up, amazed that someone could stay that calm in a situation like this. He wipes away my tears and helps me get up. "Don't worry. We'll find a way out" He says with an assuring smile. I want to believe him but I cannot. "How? There is no way out! We don't even know what's going on. I'm so scared." "There is. I know a way out. Trust me. We will get out of here, but just the four of us, okay? If you see someone, do not talk to them. It is narrow and the lesser, the better." His words made me realize I was forgetting something. "But...but my little sister! She is out there. I have to help her, I can't leave her here!" Chris looks me in the eyes for five seconds and speaks "Fine. Okay. We'll get your sister, and we will leave. As fast as possible. Okay?" "Okay." He announces it to the other two and they get excited.
Chris then walks towards the blackboard and looks down. He runs his hand through his hair and kneels down. He gently pulls up the rug, and examines the wood beneath him. "Hurry up, man!" Drew shouts. "Calm down, okay!" I yell at him. He stares. Chris does not even look up. He keeps running his hand on the floor and then suddenly stops. He pulls it up from the barely visible gap and a passageway opens up. He grins an steps down. He motions for us to follow him. As Chris disappears, Drew follows. As he steps on to the first step, the thumping starts again. He looks towards the door with wide eyes and hurries down. "I'm back, my dears! I promised, now didn't I? Now it is your turn." Haley starts panicking, but I do not care. All I can think about is my sister. They are back, that means she is dead. Now what does it mean if I survive? I could not move an inch. Mandy...No. Mandy. Mandy. Suddenly the world around me fades into a blur, my head is spinning in circles and I hear shouts, "Taylor!" "Tay hurry up!" "Tay come here!" "It's okay, Taylor! Come on here! Taylor! Taylor! Tay-" I pass out.
The next thing I know, someone is dragging me through a dark tunnel. Fear. I feel goosebumps and try to adjust in the dark. I can not see. I start screaming, "Let me go! Let me go!" Then I hear his voice. "It's okay, Taylor. It's us." Chris is helping me get up. As I try to get the dust off my clothes I whisper, "Where are we? Where are you taking me? What happened?" But then I remember. Haley speaks, "You passed out. That...thing was screaming and I was so scared...I pushed you down the the passage and I got in." "You pushed me in? ...Thanks." I'm confused like hell. Chris let out a chuckle. "Come on, let's not waste time." We hurry along, following Chris's lead. As we reach the end of the passageway, we hear loud footsteps behind us. Then a voice. "Oh, you can run! Run as much as you like, but you can't hide!" Chris shouts, "Hurry up, you lazy ones!" It is just Drew and Haley left behind. Chris is already climbing out. "Do you WANT to die?!" Chris shouts as he climbs up. I am next. I climb a few steps and look down. Haley is struggling. She is a bad climber, I realize. I hear the foot steps getting closer. I have to think. I have to make a choice, fast. I think about Haley pushing me down the passageway. She saved my life! I can't just leave her behind, can I? No.
I climb a few more steps and then reach out with my hand. "Haley. Take my hand!" Now Drew is panicking. He is the last one and realizes that if he wants to live, he needs to push Haley up, or they will both die. Haley reluctantly gives me her hand and looks down. Drew pushes her and she manages to climb the first few steps. Drew follows. "Speed up!" Chris shouts from above. In a few minutes, we are almost there and Chris has already gotten out. He tells us it's clear. Me and Haley excitedly climb. "Oh, thank you Taylor! And thank you D-" She freezes as she looks down. I look down too. We see Drew. But he is not climbing. The monster...she...he.........it had Drew. It was a frightful sight. Dressed in black, that thing has long arms. It has curly, greasy shoulder-length hair. This creature is smiling at Drew, as he lies on the floor shivering. His hand is cut off...oh, what a scary sight! The creature takes its claws and claws at his chest. He screams in pain. We could see no more. We start climbing again, and as we get to the top, we shut the door underneath us. Without a word, we fall into a group hug, all three of us. There are tears in my eyes as Chris is saying, "We made it, girls. We made it." "But....Drew?" I sob. "Drew's gone, Taylor. He died saving us. He is a hero. But he would not want us to stay here. Let's get out." "No! My sister! We can't leave her!" He grabs my shoulders. "Your sister's gone, Tay. Everyone is. It's only the three of us." those words echo in my head, Only the three of us. I can not believe my sister is dead, but I have to go. I nod silently and walk with the rest of them.
We were survivors. Luckily, there were about sixty other survivors, who had been hiding and were rescued by the police later. However. many families were destroyed, so much damage done, and we were the only ones who made it through without any help, on our own. The next day, three witch-hunters came to town. They hunted down the witches- although this was not how I had imagined witches to be!- and killed them. This was it. Peace, at last. The three of us became best friends and we came on TV. This was the first time ever, that I was thankful for detention. If I wasn't there, I would've died. This made me believe that everything happens for a reason. AND, Chris asked me out! God, I was happy like ****! I lost a lot, but I got something in return. I was happy.
