A week passed and Zeke had recovered from his wounds. Raphael was still in pretty bad shape, but was getting better with the help of using his magic. The next day when Zeke thought it was time they both got up, put on their robes, and headed off to the castle of SeaCrest in the land of Detria. The king of this land had slain a demon king thousands of years ago, and was said to be the greatest warrior of all. He somehow has been able to live longer than any other person through some ways that he has kept over everybody’s heads. 2
“Are you ready to take out King Judas?” said Zeke.3
“Well, I figure I am in the best shape I can be in as of right now. I figure the sooner the better,” said Raphael. 4
They both left Zeke’s house and walked onto a back alley of Nibilia. They walked forward and headed towards the general direction of the castle of Detria. As they headed onwards they stepped onto the main road. It was still cluttered with the various fruit stands that had been turned over from Raphael and Zeke’s fight earlier that week. Zeke made a small smirk underneath his hood as he thought of the battle and remembered winning. 5
A few of the shop owners looked at them and remembered the faces and they sent out a silent warning. Raphael could hear the gossip running through the town. 6
“Get ready for a fight,” he whispered to Zeke. 7
“Ok,” he said as he put his hand on the hilt of his saber. 8
The castle could be seen in the distance and day was already beginning to wane. Zeke suggested to set up camp and they took shifts as to when they would sleep, because they expected an attack. When the next day came they were both well rested. The landscape changed from the bustling city of Nibilia to a wooded path and everything began to grow denser. Raphael stopped in his tracks and told Zeke to stop also. 9
“What’s wrong?” asked Zeke.10
“I hear a large group of people up ahead. They sound heavily armored and armed. What do you think that means?”11
“Troops,” Zeke said. He could hear the noise also now. 12
“Get in the trees for an ambush.”13
“Got it.”14
Zeke climbed up a tree and Raphael stood in the road, his head down. The troops arrived and they found Raphael with an insidious smile on his face. Zeke watched form the treetop and found that there must have been at least thirty people in this squadron. He knew Raphael would need help. Raphael moved back and held his hand up. A blade of pure energy came out of his hand, and it hardened into a dull blade long sword. Zeke was amazed he had never seen anything like this before. The troops formed into two groups of fifteen people. 15
Zeke took this as his time to come in. He slid down the tree and drew his sword taking out the first man in a flash. His intestines slid out of his stomach and hit the ground leaving him nearly in two. His sword clattered to the ground. Raphael looked amazed, but took his chance. He drove his sword down into the soldiers left eye. The soldier jerked and then fell to the ground. Zeke’s distraction gave him the chance to take out the next two soldiers. 16
Raphael launched a fire spell at the next two soldiers and they burned instantly, leaving a smell of burnt flesh, hair, and wood, into the air. The next few were burned by the spray of hot blood, and cloth and were also ignited. He walked forward through the flame and ran his sword into the next soldiers stomach. The sound of blood hitting the ground gave Raphael reassurance. 17
“Heh heh” He chuckled as the man dropped. 18
Zeke had polished off the last few remaining soldiers, and looked at Raphael. He had been hit, and his wounds were bleeding again, but not badly. A look of evil spread across Raphael’s face and the sky darkened. A dark light shone from his chest and then leaped out from him. It hit the first soldier and incinerated his flesh, leaving nothing but a deformed, clean skeleton. The sky returned to the pale blue color it once was and time resumed. Raphael dropped to the ground. 19
Zeke rushed over and cut off a soldiers leg that was coming towards Raphael. 20
Now is the time to prove our friendship he thought. The soldier crumpled and Zeke picked up his leg and threw it at the last remaining soldier. The bone of the leg was protruding from the stump and it was sharp from being cut. It pierced the last soldiers chest, and he fell in a last dying swing for Zeke. It missed and Zeke looked at the soldier at his feet. He looked up at him, and had a look of agony, and fear in his eyes. Zeke took compassion on the man, and wrapped up the man’s leg with some extra bandages he had. He gave the man some money and to let him go into town and buy a wooden leg. He also got him a stick to serve as a crutch, and set him on his way. 21
He had a vendetta against the king, not the soldiers, so there was no point to kill him out of cold blood. He helped Raphael up and told him to use a healing spell on his now open wounds. As they stood, a voice from the trees, a females, yelled “Hey, you two.” It sounded like a strong voice of a warriors, but too soft for her to be a serious threat. 22
“Yes?” Zeke said as the lady emerged from the woods. She was beautiful, with brown hair, and a brown cloak with green breeches. She obviously had not wanted to be seen, and to be drawn into the fight. She had bright blue eyes, and was fair skinned. She looked as if she had a couple of concealed daggers hidden about her person. “who are you?”23
She looked down at him with a kind smile and said, “Heh, I saw your battle, you guys are good. Wouldn’t have thought a man could be cut in two like that.” Zeke smirked and helped Raphael up. He had not said a word since she had arrived. He didn’t care, and didn’t trust her. “Where are you two going?”24
Zeke looked at Raphael questioningly. “Go ahead,” he said “it won’t matter when it’s all said and done.”25
“Ok,” Zeke said, “we are going to kill the king.”26
“My, a most noble deed I must say. May I come with you?”27
“No!” said Raphael 28
“Sure!” said Zeke. 29
“Fine,” said Raphael, “but I’m not responsible for her death.”30
“Good, I will be.”31
“So I can come?”32
“Yes, you may,” said Zeke, “but what is your name?”33
“Sonyia,” she said. 34
“Good, I am Zeke, and this is Raphael.” 35
“I know.”36
“How?”37
“You have warrants for your arrest, but don’t worry I won’t take you in.”38
“You hear that Raphael? We’re famous!”39
“Yippee,” said Raphael said in a bored tone.40
They continued to the castle, a new alliance had been formed. 41
“So Raphael do you know any history of the place?” asked Zeke 42
“Heh heh more than you would ever want to know,” he said. 43
With that they said nothing more about the matter. 44
What to expect next? We shall see later. 45
To Be Continued. . . 46
