It All Works Out in the End (ch.4)

~February 12, 2003~1

By this time the whole 8th grade Ruby Team knew I liked Keith and they all agreed that it looked like he liked me too. They all said I should ask him again…hahaha…yeah right! I’ve asked him enough! Why bother the poor guy if he doesn’t want to?2

~Social Studies (Mr. Sweat)~3

“Amber,” Mr. Sweat, my social studies teacher, called. I stood up and walked to the front of the room and took my paper. I passed the kid in the front row, Justin’s desk.4

“Hey, ask Keith out,” he whispered.5

“Been there done that, he never answered,” I whispered back while walking to my desk.6

“Do it again, he’ll say yes,” he said. I sat down not intending to do anything again.7

~Skill block (Mrs.Amund)~8

Kim and I always pass notes back and forth during skill block and today was no different. Kim wrote: 9

Amber,10

What’s up? Nuttin much here. I’m so bored, u?11

I wrote:12

Yeah I hate skill block. Nuthin much here either... people keep sayin Keith likes me but he doesnt even notice me! I'm trying though. 13

Kim: 14

Do u mind not bragging? I hate it cuz every time I like sum1 and my friend does too they say no to me and yes to my friends!15

Me:16

I wasn’t bragging and besides, I liked him first. A good friend would be like, “I hope he says yes!” that’s what I did. It’s none of ur damn business what I do anyway.17

There was plenty more but seeing as how this is already very long and I’m not sure if it’s all that interesting I’m not going to write it all. We ended up not talking and so, the friendship was ended. At the time i was mad because i'd already asked Keith out 2 times for her and she never got an answer, also I'd liked him first and it seemed to me that she only liked him because I did. Actually, she would have taken any boy, she was always like, "will you set me up?" or 'how would I look good with?" she'd go out with anyone which made me believe that she didnt even thonk he was special in her opinion.18

I’m sure you’re thinking, is Keith really worth all this? Is any boys? Well Keith is!19

~End of Day at Our Lockers…Again~20

“Keith is going to say yes,” Steve said, “He’s like this close,” he said trying to make a space between his index and thumb as small as possible to show Keith is really close and I should be waiting.21

“Really?” I said doubtful.22

“Yeah, so what do you want for Valentine’s day?”23

“Steve! I said I didn’t want anything!”24

“Yeah you do.”25

“No,” I said and walked away before he could say anything else.26

~End of Day at Lockers…Is This Where All the Good Stuff Happens? I Guess So…~28

“Keith is going to say yes,” Steve said.29

“He hasn’t yet though,” I said a little ticked off that I wasn’t getting answered but everyone was telling me he was. I admit I was pretty excited because with all those people telling me he liked me and it was obvious I was feeling pretty good but I just wanted him to answer!30

“So, what do you want for Valentine’s Day?”31

“Nothing! We’ve been through this like 50 zillion times, Steve, I want NOTHING!”32

“Yeah you do. Do you like roses?” he asked and continued before I could answer, “Ok, I’ll tell him get you some roses and a teddy bear or something, all girls like teddy bears.”33

“Steve, I don’t want anything except an answer! I don’t want anything!” I said and walked off before he could protest that I wanted something. 34

I did want something…I wanted Keith to say yes.35

I have to admit you seem pretty cruel to Kim here. She's supposed to be your friend - you stopped being friends but then you became friends again - but this seems like you were enemies. Maybe you should try and explain your feelings more, rather than just saying what happens (cause that sounds so "objective" - cruel, basically). That will show everybody that you felt that way AT THE TIME, but it doesn't imply that you still do.
Anyway, the part about Valentine's Day was pretty good, its like another juicy carrot hanging there...!
