Chapter 1: Magical Life.
The drowning sound of the alarm going off shatters my sleep. Is it six-thirty in the morning already? God feels like I have only been dozing for about ten minutes. This is mostly in cause to I have only been in my bed for about an hour. I open my eyes and hit the alarm button, the constant beeping ends. My room is filled with and uneasy silence. I slide my fingers across a picture of my father that lingers on the side of my bed table. Suddenly I am drawn in to remembering how he used to come in and wake me for school before he died. The thought makes me smile a bit. I wipe the sleep from my eyes and drag myself from the bed laying out my uniform. I walk down the hall to take a shower. This is the last day of my senior year in magic school. A sigh of relief escapes me. All of my other magical friends are allowed to go to school in the town where we live, in the mortal world. If it weren’t for my background I would be as well, but you see it isn’t that simple for me. I am Roxiannika Batalon and I am the heir to magic. A princess if you will, in a sort anyway. My family is royalty. My mother Isabella, my aunt Jade and my uncle Amducias are the children of Alexzandra and Demogergon Novitti the first real immortals. My grandmother Alex was the only human ever granted immortality to this day no one but she and the old ones know why. It was a lonely life for her. One day she fell under attack and the man we now know as my grandfather gregor a dark elfish saved her in turn for this he was allowed to have but one wish. His wish was that he to could be immortal and live with my grandmother for all time as a protector of her. The fell in love and started a family. Now people refer to us as the heart of magic, though really no one knows why. It is hard to be a princess that every one knows about. It is quiet a bit harder to be a princess that the mortal world knows nothing about. Where having attempts made on your life is a daily thing and no one that is not magical can ever find out your secret but those who are magical never leave you time to think. I finish my shower and step out wrapping a towel tightly around myself. Running down the stairs to eat breakfast and have time to get ready so I am not late. Needing to fix something easy and quick but also stop my mild craving, a rare steak heated in just slightly, and a shot of warm pigs blood is the first thing that comes to mind. I know this seems grotesque, but at least it is pig blood and not human. You see My father was a vampire well, he was many things. As part of his self he was a wizard a very talented one as well. He also had a side of him that no one except for my family and Nick ever saw. When he was 17 he stole from a seer, she in turn put a spell on him that until the end of his blood line there would be a craving for blood, a need that nothing could take away. He almost died of starvation, but my mother saved him. She let him drink of her putting the disease dormant in her blood. Soon he realized that he could quench this craving with animal blood. human blood was not needed, the woman had not been precise enough in her words. This is another reason I myself am not allowed mortal school. I throw a small flame on a steak that is sitting in the sink. “ mother must have known it would soon come back again” I smile.” I love the way she knows just what I need.” I warm the blood. I almost inhale breakfast in my rush. If my mother had of seen that she would have given me quite a talking to. Good thing I haven’t seen her this morning. Must still be out on the hunt, since fathers death I have seen little of her. I slide in to my uniform, which fits me quiet well. A silk white button up top the hangs close to my skin that isn’t quiet buttoned up as far as it should be and a pair of tight boot cut low rise black jeans, with of course the robe as an over coat. That is one reason I absolutely hate magic school the main reason actually. I love to express myself and with this being my senior year I am able to do this a little more, but there is still a strict code of white-collar ups and black pants. I scrunch my dark hair seeing as it’s all I have time for. Just a bit of eyeliner and eye shadow to accent my honey almost gold looking eyes and am ready and waiting in perfect time. I hear the doorbell ring knowing my escorts are here. Well at least they rang this morning. Mostly they will show up unannounced. Today they have rang the doorbell, which means that my mother has yelled at them yet again. I smirk to my self. I walk to the door, opening it and inviting them in which is the proper thing to do. Shutting the door I grab my books and the wand which I no longer need. Making a jester as if to ask if they are ready I blink to magic school. They appear in sink with me. I nod to them and head for class. As soon as I walk through the door he’s there waiting for me. A smile creeps across my face and my heart quickens just a bit. Skylar, my love, he could go to the mortal school like my cousin destiny, his brother jasper and sister jessica, but he chooses to be here with me. For everything he’s done and given up for me I am truly grateful. If he only knew how much he truly meant to me. The thing with sky and me is that we started so innocent. Well when I say innocent I mean we started out not caring about each other it was sort of a game. Our families have been friends for as long as our history has been around. Sky’s grandparents were the first guards of our family and his father nick is head of security for my grandparents now. I think his father is secretly in love with my aunt, but I’ve never been one to nose around. If he is more power to that love it makes us all stronger, and well if he isn’t it’s fun to joke about. Sky and I went through childhood together. He has been there through every stupid, horrible, and awesome thing that has ever happened in my life. When my father died I sought comfort in his arms. He did everything for me moved to magic school as my guard, leaving everything in the mortal world behind. It was not the way to handle the situation. I wanted nothing else to do with him. It was not the right time in my life for any of this so I refused myself to him. He in turn sought comfort in another’s arms. She was never good enough for him, but we were still close. Despite everything I had done to him he stood by me. She on the other hand betrayed his love for her. So when he was falling I caught him. I have no idea why. Maybe it was my loss of innocents to him, or maybe it was just the fact that with him everything seemed to be somewhat normal again. I slowly let him in and here we are now more in love than I ever thought possible. He takes my books from me and sets them on the desk quickly pulling me into a kiss. The whole room slows and it’s like the moment is frozen for us. My heart is almost jumping out of my chest. I inhale the smell of him and it is like his scent is over taking my soul. He pulls away smiling a bit. He can here it the blood rushing through my veins my heart pumping out of control. His smile proves that he loves this he loves this control he has over me. I pull away slightly knowing the reason he has this heightened sense of hearing and smell is my fault. He reads the look on my face, a look I often get when I think about the day my father died and how I lost control on him. Taking my hands in to his and kissing them lightly, “it’s is not your fault okay?” he sighs, “Things happen. It doesn’t mean I love you any less.” Smiling now. He whispers. “ it’s actually pretty cool, I can tell when people are lying and well just knowing that my kisses get you all hot and bothered like this” he pauses to make sure none of the telepath’s are around “ well lets just say it’s my pleasure.” He winks and lets go of my hands. I can’t help but let a slight giggle escape my lips and I whisper back. “ hey look whose talking you heart rate is just a tiny bit harder and faster” I put and extra bit of emphases on harder and faster and his heart quickens even more before I even finish the sentence. “than mine.” Sky shakes his head like he has to clear it before he forgets where we are. I laugh walking over to the wooden table that he and I share. I open my robe to expose my outfit and his eyes jump slightly. He notices what no one else would, I can see it on his face. My navel is partly revealed from a spot where I seemingly missed a button. A small diamond appears as well, hanging from my belly button ring. My smooth pearl-tan skin looks almost identical to the silky material that is lain across it. Strutting over as sly as can be he slides into his seat putting his arm around me. Knowing how I am, he just laughs. I shrug, pulling out my textbook and flipping it to the last page. It’s blank, ever since we received theses books the back page has always been blank. This is the last class. Hoping all will be revealed I leave the book open waiting for Mrs. Puff to come in. Not long at the chatter of the room dies down and in a gust of wind, which is, accustom Mrs. Puff comes flying in to the classroom and stops short of hitting the wall. She is a comical, petite lady, who is very small, but has a very extravagant perspective on life. Slamming the door shut with a flick of the wrist she calls attention to the head of the class and begins. “ as some of you well know today is the last day for you here in this school. This infact the last class you will ever attend” She looks sorrowful with this. Part due to the fact I believe she has grown attached to each of us in time. “ at magic school. I know some of you have planned to go to mortal college in the fall, others of you are going to become roaming teachers and various other things.” She smiles at Skylar and I, because we are the two that she happens referring to. In the fall I start college at the community college in our town. I made a deal with my mother. If I attend magic school in full, I am allowed to find something in the mortal world that makes me passionate. Skylar on the other hand knows his passion he wants to teach. To share the knowledge he has gained with others to help them grow in their own manner. She continues, “ I have one final lesson for you my dears.” With the flick of her finger, all the books that were not yet opened to the final page whorl there and then something happens ink fills the pages as if has been there all along just waiting for some one to find it. She smiles “ my final lesson, is heart. You are my brightest pupils and I’m hoping that each one of you pays attention very carefully for one day this lesson just might save your life.” Those three words stood out more than any others did and every one glued their eyes to the head of the classroom as Mrs. Puff explained what she meant. “ You see heart is something you never want to waste. You can never lose it or ignore it. For if you do, you will lose something so much more than that. You will have no life, no love and no passion for others. You will have no soul. The life you once had will be no more.” Slow she carried on. “ So for this last page in your book there is a proverb which you must never forget.” Everyone’s heads turned to their books as each person in the room let this sink in. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” I recognize it immediately as Confucius. This is the saying that is over the door of the great hall where my grand parents live. Skylar knows to and we both look to Mrs. Puff and she nods and raises her hand to speak again. “ This is something you must always remember for in great times of need you must find the strength with in your self to get up and fight. The strength to keep going even if it seems hopeless. Sooner or later the light will come and everything will fall in to place my dears” Again she looks sorrowful and I don’t understand what this means but as she said time will reveal all. Our books slam shut. “ This is not a lesson you can physically take with you my pupils. This lesson must stay here for the next generation to learn, but the message must never die with in you.” Every one nods. unlike most classes every one in this room is filled with a kind of uncertain feeling. The books disappear and she looks around the room one more time as if taking a mental note of every one sitting in the class and the she speaks. “ you are dismissed.”
