February 4th (Social Studies)

Dear Diary,

So there I was, at the table with Rex, Claire, her boyfriend Tyler, Char, and her boyfriend Sean. Well, right now, I’m in Social Studies, but that’s besides the point. Anyway, Sandra was passing the table and saw me. She gave me a wicked smile and sashayed off. She went right to the end of the line—next to Rex!

“Hey, Rex” she said in a seductive voice.

“Uh...hey Sandra. Look, I have told you many, many times…”

“Oh, I’m not trying to ask you back out,” she said, while rubbing his back affectionately. “I’m just saying a warm hello.”

I couldn’t take anymore. I slammed my journal down and walked over to the line and said, “Hey Sandra, don’t you think your hello is warm enough to melt Antarctica?”

“No...you aren’t insecure are you? Because I think that you would like to know that Rex doesn’t like insecure girls. And you do love Rex...right?” Sandra said as she flashed me her million dollar smile.

“Insecure over what? A girl who is trying to get back with her ex because she’s that desperate? Sure…I’m insecure.” I threw a smile right back at her.

I could see in Sandra’s eyes that I had won the battle. She was angry...very angry, but I didn’t care. I knew that Rex loved me, and only me and that Sandra would never be able to take his heart away from me—ever!

Later on, in Science, Rex and I were walking in the hallway, hand in hand, I saw Sandra. Sweetly, she came up to me and said, “See you at today’s pep rally, Cristina.”

Boy, you don’t know how badly I wanted to punch her in the face! “Oh, yeah...the pep rally! See you there.” I smiled weakly. Oh, how I hate her! I thought to myself.

“You’re going to the pep rally, right Cris?” asked Rex. I didn’t want to lie to him, but I had to.

“Yeah, I’ll be there,” I said to him, but to myself I said, “If nothing comes up.”

When we reached science class, I had already formulated a plan. I would lie and tell the teacher that I didn’t do my homework and get detention. That way, I would miss the pep rally from 3pm-3:30pm and the cheerleading practice from 3:30pm-4pm.

Mr. Mosebee (the most wonderful teacher ever, sigh!) began roll call for the homework.

“Kenosha?”

“I have my homework.”

“Claire?”

“Of course.”

“Charlotte?”

“Yes, Mr. Mosebee.”

“Cristina?”

I took a deep breath. “No, Mr. Mosebee...I don’t have my homework.”

He looked at me, “Cristina, although this is your first time missing homework I can’t excuse you from detention. Be in my classroom after school at 3pm. You will be dismissed at 4pm. Is that clear?”

I almost smiled. Quickly, I frowned and said, “Crystal clear, Mr. Mosebee.”

Claire and Char looked at me, clearly sensing that something was wrong.

Uh oh. I thought. Here it comes...they’ve figured me out.

“Crissy, what about the pep rally and cheerleading practice?” said Char.

“Yeah…” said Claire. “This is the second time you have missed practice. Don’t you think you should start pulling your act together?”

Char added, “I thought that cheerleading was your life...if you keep up this behavior, you’re sure to be kicked off the squad.”

If only you knew. Was what I thought.

“Girls…” warned Mr. Mosebee. Quickly, we went back to work.

Please tell me what you think
