Huntress: Prologue

It was the first spring after the great shaking of the ground that separated the Great Pack of Wolves tribe. This was a special night for the pack. The young cubs that had survived the great shaking were going to become full members of the pack, known as young wolves. There was joy and happiness in the air. The King and Queen of the tribe were introducing their last cub of their last litter into the pack.

King stood in the magnificence of the moment waiting for his mate and his daughter to enter the pack. King was an old wolf his dark brown fur was turning dark gray. His body was still strong, but each passing morning light rising, old age was catching up to him, by stealing his youth strength a little more each time. With his son Hunter now gone from the tribe the pack’s future was uncertain. King had always taken for granted that Hunter would be the next leader. He regretted that thinking because he had never trained his daughter. She would choose her place in the pack and also decide the pack’s future unknowingly.

He knew every sound and smell through his kingdom. When in the distance he heard the sweet howl from his mate. His black eyes were searching for her. She appeared out of nowhere into his presence. Her fur was a light gray and she was smaller than he, but she was quick, careful, and able.

“My Queen, where is our daughter?” asked King.

“She is waiting with the other cubs for the start of the celebration.”

“I wish Hunter could see this moment.”

“The Living God has chosen him to start another pack. I know our son if he could come home, he would bring them home,” said Queen

“Hunter and Ivy might be having there own celebration with their clan.”

A great howl came from the Elders. All the wolves from the tribe came to the clearing and they all sat in the circle. King and Queen walked in and took their royal spot. King had seen the missing cubs, members, and teachers that the tribe had lost on that dreadful day. He could feel the sorrow that was left from that day, but tonight joy and happiness over took the sorrow.

“Our King, would you start our celebration?” asked Elders in one voice.

“My friends, my family, we are all part of this tribe. We are still one tribe and we are still strong and mighty. Each of us lost loved ones on that day. I remember the Mighty Boulder, the wolf, who gave his life to save the future of the tribe by saving the pups. I remember Firefly the she-wolf. She gave her life to bring those cubs back to the tribe. Lets us howl to the sky to honor their names!” said King.

The Great Pack of Wolves cried onto the night sky. Their cry echoed through out the kingdom. Then the Queen stepped out into the pack.

“I honored the teachers who did not make it back, that are now raising our cubs off in distant lands, let us remembered, North Star and his mate Rose, Wind and his mate Willow, and Hunter and his mate Ivy. Let us howl so that they can hear us where ever they are.”

The wolves’ howl was louder and deeper. Their goal was to reach the missing members. The pack could tell them how much the tribe missed them and loved them.

“Bring out the young pups,” spoke the elders in one voice.

All the young pups appeared in the circle. They were looking the king, queen, and the elders.

“Young pups, you are now known as pups to the pack,” said King and Queen.

“Bring out the older pups,” spoke the elders.

All the pups came out were standing next to the other group.

“Pups, you are known as cubs to the pack,” said King and Queen.

Everyone howl for joy and happiness. All the new set pups and cubs returned to their families.

“Let us bring out the older cubs for the naming!” said King and Queen.

The wolves were barking and wagging their tails while the dusk sky was turning into the dark night. There were only four older cubs that would be introduced into the pack. The Elders called the first cub.

The first cub was a gray wolf and was small for a male wolf. He walked into the middle of the circle. He gave a bark to announce his presence to the tribe.

“You are a small, gray wolf with a huge heart of gold. What do you want to be for the tribe?” asked the Elders.

“I choose to hunt to bring life for the pack,” said the gray cub.

“Does the tribe agrees?” asked the Elders.

“Name, name, name…,” spoke the tribe.

“What is your name, cub?” asked the Elders.

“My name is Whirlwind.”

The pack gave loud and welcoming bark for Whirlwind. Then the next cub was light brown walked up and stood next to Whirlwind.

“You are a bright wolf whose path is full of life. What do you want to be for the tribe?” asked the Elders.

“I choose to be a teacher to pass down knowledge for the tribe.”

“Does the tribe agrees?” asked the Elders.

“Name… name… name…,” spoke the tribe.

“What is your name, cub?” asked the Elders.

“My name is Sunflower.”

The pack gave a joyful bark for her. The next was a brown wolf. He marched in next to Sunflower.

“You are a powerful brown wolf who loves the pack deeply. What do you want to be for the tribe?” asked the Elders.

“I choose to be a protector to keep harm away from the tribe.”

“Does the tribe agrees?” asked the Elders.

“Name… name… name….,” spoke the tribe.

“What is your name, cub?” asked the Elders.

“My name is Flurry.”

Flurry sat next to Whirlwind who was sitting next to Sunflower. The next wolf was black as the night, and her eyes revealed a strong soul in her.

“You are a black wolf that has a strong will and a powerful spirit.

What do you want to be for the tribe?” asked the Elders.

“I choose to be a she-wolf to keep the tribe strong.”

“Does the tribe agrees?” asked the Elders.

“No… no… no…,” said the tribe.

There was silence in the air and the black wolf became uneasy.

“Why do you as the daughter of the King and Queen want to become a

she-wolf?” questioned the Elders.”

“To honor Firefly and to help the tribe to be mighty and plentiful for many seasons to come,” said the cub.

“Now does the tribe agrees?” asked the Elders.

“Name… name… name…,” spoke the tribe.

“What is your name, cub?”

“My name is Huntress, to honor my brother Hunter.”

The King was pleased with his daughter choice. He stepped out and walked to the cubs. Flurry, Whirlwind, and Sunflower came to join Huntress. King looked upon them with great pride and knew the tribe would go on.

“You four are no longer cubs, now members of the tribe. My family, my friends, we have now a hunter, a teacher, a protector, and a she-wolf. You four young wolves go bring honor to our tribe.”

The tribe howled through out the kingdom to welcome the new members of the pack.
