Lucky Charms1
{Scene XIV}2
>-Ten years later-&later;3
Moving boxes into her first home of her own. This was a wish4
that every little girl dreams about growing up. Of course,5
Kristina never actually thought that she would ever leave her6
mom, Grace's, house.7
Now that she was able to pay off all the bills and selling8
the house for enough to put her through med school, she was 9
content with her life of helping others. Maybe it was the10
fact that she couldn't help Grace that moved Kris to take11
this path in her life.12
[Nosey neighbors peeking through their mini-blinds]13
Kristina continued to drag a few remaining boxes into her new14
home and plopping them onto the couch.15
[A knock at the door was almost as immediate as when the last16
moving box was put down]17
[Opened the door and heard a small voice...looked down and18
saw a little girl holding a plastic covered plate of 19
chocolate chip cookies]20
KRISTINA: Well, hello there honey, where did you come from?21
LITTLE GIRL: Uhm, hi ma'am, my name is Josie. I am your next22
door neighbor. My mama asked me to walk these cookies over23
and introduce myself....I'm 8 and three quarters!24
KRISTINA: That was very considerate of you Josie! I bet you25
made these, didn't you? Let me try one of those...would you26
like to have one with me?27
[Josie stepped right in]28
As she searched for a place to sit, she was admiring 29
Kristina's collection of books. Josie has always wanted to go30
to the library and be the first one in school to read every31
single book in their appointed places, in the bookcases.32
[Kris pushed a box over on her couch to make room for 33
Josie...(her very first guest)]34
JOSIE: Thank you,uhm...what did you say your name is ma'am?35
[Setting down some iced lemonade, she smiled and began to36
answer Jose's question]37
KRISTINA: Josie, sweetheart, I'm sorry...forgive me, I'm38
always forgetting the tiniest things. My name is Kristina,39
but please feel free to call me Kris. Let's see...I'm a40
therapist for two years now, I'm 28 years old and [whispers]41
I'm not married, shhhhhhh.42
[They both giggled]43
JOSIE: Yeah, I don't blame you...boys are gross. They are44
always pulling my hair or throwing paper airplanes at my45
head!46
KRISTINA: Maybe, do you think that they might like you if 47
they are paying that much attention to you? Sometimes that's48
what that means. I remember there was this one boy when we49
went to school, he did the exact same thing to me....know50
what? We wound up being the very best of friends. As a matter51
of fact, he lives in this very town.52
[The doorbell rang three times]53
KRISTINA: I'll be right back sweetie...54
[Opens door]55
JOSIE'S MOM (Helen): I'm sorry has my daughter out worn her 56
welcome? My name is Helen...it's nice to meet you, welcome57
to the neighborhood! Josie...where are you? C'mon let's go.58
I think you've taken up enough of this nice lady's time!59
KRISTINA: Well, thank you for the cookies. Come by anytime,60
I'd love the company...61
[Helen & Josie were already out the door and almost to their62
own front door]63
KRISTINA: Well, that was strange...64

{Scene XX)66
--Unpacking--67
Back in the newly painted house, Kristina licked the68
last few crumbs of cookie from her fingers and 69
swallowed the last bit of lemonade in her slender70
glass. Thoughts began running through her mind...71
she kept remembering back to that fateful day.72
An unnecessary web of events that unraveled so pain-73
fully when she was a young girl.74
The only rock she could hold onto was her good friend,75
Daniel. He was so sensitive and caring to Kristina's76
feelings and she'll never forget the bouquet of roses77
she received on her eighteenth birthday.78
[Tears began to well small pools in her ice blue eyes79
and sparkled like a twinkling star that fell from her80
cheek]81
KRISTINA: Goodness, I didn't realize how much of a82
pack rat I am! Guess I had better get started with a83
few boxes, before I can actually relax.84
[Kris, plugged in a lamp and her clock radio to keep 85
her company for a few hours]86
Tearing off the packing tape from a very heavy box,87
Kris opened it and realized why it was so heavy...88
'BOOKS'. Actually she was rather excited since there89
was a built-in bookshelf to display all of her 90
favorite books.91
The bookshelf was elegantly made out of cherry and92
walnut that stood as high as the living room wall. It93
was almost six feet across, which meant she'd have an94
immense amount of room left for some of her other 95
knick-knacks and such.96
[Carefully arranging all of her books into categories,97
she came across her first diary]98
KRISTINA: [thinking aloud, Mr.B!!] Wow, it's been so99
long since I've confided in you. You're so dusty...100
I'll be right back...101
[Grabbed a wet paper towel from the crowded kitchen102
full of boxes and returned to Mr.B for a quick rub103
down]104
KRISTINA: Okay, I'm back. Let me see here...did I105
write anything interesting?106
[Softly flipping through the pages, Kristina found a107
few passages about Daniel...Although, Mr.B. said not108
a single word aloud]109
Oh, how she longed to see Daniel again...after all110
these years, wondering what's going on in his life.111
If only they hadn't lost touch, he'd know. She had112
to talk to him, it's not fair...especially after 113
all these years.114
[Concentrating on Mr.B once again, Kristina continued115
to turn the worn pages]116
KRISTINA: Mr.B? Are you still here? 117
[As a cold unexpected draft passed over her and the118
journal, the fragile pieces of paper turned all the119
way to the end...where a note was written, although120
it was not in Kris's handwriting]121
The last page read...122
Kristina,123
Where do I begin? There were so many conversations124
that we shared. I should have known that you'd go125
and forget about me...To be honest you just really126
upset me. Do you know why? Let me share this then...127
You never so much as said good-bye or anything128
even close!!!129
Am I angry with you? What do you think? I refuse to130
draw you a damn picture! Get it? That's not my style.131
Think about this though, "I faded from your life as 132
you shall fade from mine..."133
Have a nice life, Kristina! (with heart shaped dotted134
letter "i's")135
You know who I am!136
