One winter morning, Charlie stood in front of the window watching the snow falling down. It was beautiful and ever so inviting. Charlie asked his Mom to go sledding. “Of course” she said yes. Quickly he grabbed his red sled and went outside.

Soon Charlie was riding down the big hill that lay in front of their house. The wind just whipped his face. What fun Charlie had sledding down the hill.  Finally Charlie had enough. He took his red sled inside, put it away, and went to his room.

Winter is such a wonderful time of the year. Charlie thought. Gosh, I wish I could go sleigh riding all year long, but the snow never stays around long enough. Charlie wanted to learn more about the season. He went to his bookshelf and grabbed an encyclopedia. He looked up snow and learned what makes snow fall. Snow falls when it is 32 degrees or less. Neat, now I know why it falls only in winter. It has to be at least that cold.

As time went on, patches of grass started to come through the running snow and the lonely snowman Charlie built melted away.

Spring was now in full bloom. The flowers thrived in lovely colors, the robins sang their mating call, and the grass smelled ready to be cut. Easter was just around the corner too.

Along with spring came Baseball. It was the first day of season. Charlie could hardly wait.  He grabbed his bat, ball and glove. In the corner of his closet he found his uniform. He dressed himself and was ready to play.

His Mom drove him to the field for opening day. When he got to the field, his team sat on the sideline and the visiting pitcher stood on the mound ready to throw the first pitch. The umpire called out, “Play Ball.”

What a game. Charlie hit a home run and won the game for his team. His parents were so proud of him. The season went from April to end of May with ten games. Charlie’s team won the league, and he got a nice big trophy for winning.

It was June now and school ended on the 21st of the month. Charlie looked forward to the three months of vacation.  The long hot summer days of summer seem to never end. No school and just playing ball every day for three months. June 21 arrived and the dismissal bell rang. School was out for summer.

The big event for Charlie over the summer was camp. He always made lots of great friends. The day was filled with all kinds of activity. Every day the campers played baseball, basketball, and soccer. At night a campfire and a sing along entertained the kids.

The summer days seemed to go by too fast.  At the end of the season, Charlie’s parents picked him up from camp and took him home.

It was Labor Day, and the first day of the fourth grade started the next day.  The school bus picked Charlie up and drove him to school. His homeroom teacher stood in front of the school and rang the welcoming bell. All the children followed her to their classroom. First period started at 8:30am. School was now in session.

Outside the colors of the leaves changed from green to yellow, red, orange and brown. Flowers lost their pedals, and the farmers prepared their harvest for the season. Pumpkins appeared ready in every store. Charlie placed his pumpkin in front of his house. Halloween arrives on October 31st.

When Halloween arrived on October 31st Charlie dressed himself as a pirate. He had a big black hat on, a patch on one eye, a black and white striped shirt a red vest, and blue pants to make his costume up. He carried a plastic pumpkin to collect his treats. Charlie and two other friends knocked on every house on their street trick or treating. He collected a lot of candy.

Now that Halloween was over, the Holiday season got under way. What a great time of the year? Thanksgiving arrived in November. Charlie had a large family, and they all came over to share a large turkey that stood on the dining room table with all the side dishes one served with it.

It was autumn outside until December 21st, but it felt like winter. There was no snow yet nonetheless Charlie new it was nearly time to go sleigh riding again. He took his sled out and put it in a corner in his room so it would be ready. Now Charlie put his focus on Christmas. It’s Charlie’s favorite holiday of the year.

At school Charlie’s class mate’s and teacher decorated the classroom for the holiday. They sang Christmas songs and had a big party to celebrate. When the day was over, they were dismissed for Christmas vacation.

At last it was December 25th. It was Christmas Day. A big decorated tree stood in the living room with lots of presents for all to open. Charlie’s eyes focused on all the gifts under the tree. He ripped all the boxes open and beamed at the groovy new toys and clothes he received.

During Charlie’s vacation, there was no snow outside although it was very cold. Charlie enjoyed playing with all his new toys he got for Christmas.  A fireplace kept him warm.

Finally the last day of the year arrived. It was New Year’s Eve. At Times Square the New Year’s ball would drop down and ring in the New Year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
