Infidelity

As we walked down the street, I looked over my shoulder. It was late, and the moon was at her highest point in the sky, staring scornfully down at me. Yannick put his arms around me, and I shifted slightly into a more comfortable position. His body heat radiated from him and as I stared up at him, I realized how much I loved him. He looked down and smiled, his huge hazel eyes shining.

Some part of my heart was clawing at my mind, trying to remind me of my boyfriend back at home, and I felt a pang of guilt. I knew why the moon was so angry tonight. I pushed it away and clutched Yannick closer to me. For a moment I thought of a face, shadowed and sorrowful, but them Yannick kissed my forehead and everything seemed okay again.

We stopped walking as we reached the park. Some kids had messed with the lights, and the park was shrouded in darkness. The wind whispered infidelities, ruffling our hair, and I shivered. Yannick held me closer, his hand stroking the small of my back. I looked over my shoulder again.

"You okay, babe?" he asked almost inaudibly.

"I'm afraid,"

"Don't be. I love you,"

I buried my head in his strong chest. His heart beat was steady and slow and soothing.

By the time Yannick walked me home, it was two in the morning. A light was on in the apartment, but I shrugged it off, still thinking my boyfriend, Jeremy, was asleep. Yannick hugged me and pushed something in the back pocket of my jeans. With that, he flashed me one of his brilliant smiles and disappeared into the night.

When I walked into the bedroom Jeremy and I shared, the light had gone off, but I hadn't noticed. Jeremy was a sleeping form on the queen sized bed. I studied him as I changed into clothes more appropriate for sleep. He looked almost angelic. He was so unaware of what I was up to, and that pang of guilt gnawed at me again. Again i pushed it away, and eased myself onto our bed as to not wake him up.

Next morning, I awoke with the sun on my face. I groaned. I was so tired from being with Yannick for so long last night, but I jumped out of bed. Jeremy was already awake, probably in the kitchen making breakfast. I remembered the thing Yannick had put into my pocket. I sought out my jeans from the pile of used clothes at the foot of the bed, and searched it. There was nothing to be found. I shrugged lazily, thinking it had just fell out or something. Hungry, I descended the stairs and strolled into the kitchen.

Jeremy was leaning over the stove. He was red, but I figured it was just from the heat. He turned slowly. His eyes were red as well. They blazed, hot and angry as if someone had lit a fire in them. He made a sort of groaning noise and I could tell he was trying not to cry, or yell, and at that moment I wasn't sure which one was worse. Realization slapped me in the face. There, clutched in Jeremy's shaking hand, was a crumpled piece of paper; the love note from Yannick.

My mouth fell open as Jeremy came towards me. I backed away, until i hit the front door. He was furious, anybody could tell. He grabbed my wrists and stared at me, and began to cry a river of hot angry tears.

"Why!?" he almost screamed, "I thought I-I was g-good to you!"

"I-I'm sorry," I stuttered.

He shook his head and slammed his fist against the door. The tears were gone, and there were hate in his eyes.

'I saw you last night' was what they were saying. I was stupid to think I could sneak around and then just pretend everything was going to be fine. I was furious with myself and I felt cheap.

Jeremy gave me a few seconds to compose myself, as I was close to tears. He opened the door and walked out. I followed, begging his forgiveness, but I knew he was not one to forgive. He turned.

"This is for everything you've ever given me. All the hurt and pain. Everything," he half whispered.

He pulled me to him and kissed me. It wasn't the type of kiss he normally gave. It lacked passion and tenderness, it lacked love. It was hateful and the pure force of it made me pull away. If I wasn't crying before, I was now.

"I'm sorry it had to come to this," he said, his last words as he got in his red Ferrari and drove away.

I fell back on the grass, my hands over my head, sobbing, my ragged hair making a sort of halo around my head. It was all just too ironic.

Author notes

Well I don't usually write stuff like this, usually the 'romance' is just a side thing, but never really the main point. So I tried it, and I would really like to know how it came out.

"His heart beat was steady and slow"
I think heartbeat is one word.

"until i hit the front door."
    oops, capitalize I

This is a pretty good piece, I think. I would add more characterization; I would like to know what the three main characters look like, and I think it would make them more believable and would provoke more feeling from the reader.

It's a good story, though, well written, and the hateful kiss is a nice touch. I feel sorry for Jeremy

    Thanks, and good luck!

Well, it turned out pretty good, it got me interested and held my interest until the end.

    Needs more description please.

Some of the descriptions of Jeremy when he was angry were a bit feminine and didn't make sense --did he see her with him or find out only from the note, why was he going through her clothes anyway and why was it ironic?

Oowww. I could feel his heart breaking. I have no remorse for the narrator - cheating bitch, lol! - but it was still pretty good.

THe only thing I could find wrong was that the flow was kind of choppy. Other than that, I heart it

    Good job, and keep writing!

Ooooo a hateful kiss, i think these are the hardest to right about because it goes beyond the normal. I like your writing style, the words flow very nicely. I like the ending about the halo, that is ironic, very cool way to end.
Thanks for entering my contest and good luck.
