Stupid Derek. He always has to ruin everything.
There's a new girl at school. She sits beside me in a lot of classes, so naturally, I befriended her. Her name is Kaysee, which would normally turn me off from being a close friend. The same uncommon name just adds confusion. Every time someone talks to her, I think they're talking to me. I guess it'll just take some getting used to.
But get this: she doesn't like Derek. I think, anyways. He hit on her at our lockers and in a nutshell, she told him to get lost. Here's what happened.
We had just gotten out of English and were at our lockers. Her locker is just a couple down from mine so I was lucky enough to see Derek get turned down.
His locker is also near mine, and it was the only reason for him to come near me at school. He opened his locker and looked over at Kaysee, who was bending over to get her next class' books. His eyebrow went up as he sauntered over to her. Well, as much as Derek could saunter. It more looked like a drunken monkey's walk.
He stood next to her while she got her stuff. Kaysee obviously didn't know he was there because when she straightened up, she turned to him and omitted a little shriek and dropped her books on his foot.
Several lockers down, I put my head in my locker trying not to get noticed while I laughed at him.
"I'm so sorry," she said looking up at his red and very wet looking eyes. Was he crying? I snorted again.
"That's alright," I heard his shaky voice say. "I just noticed that I've never met you and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Derek."
"Kaysee."
"No kidding," he said looking away. "How would you like to meet me after school? We can go some place where we could be alone. You know, get to know each other a little better?"
That bastard. The look on his face told me exactly what parts of her he wanted to know.
"You sick freak," she said and slapped him. "This is my first day here and just one minute after you met me and you pretty much just asked me if you could get into my pants."
My jaw dropped. Once again, I had to put my head in my locker. I looked up as Derek walked away. Kaysee walked over to me with an exasperated look on her face.
"Are all Canadian guys that perverted?"
"Nah," I replied. "Just that one."
Derek was turned down. By a girl even! Almost all girls that haven't dated him before have a crush on him. I don't understand why. Ew.
That was probably the greatest day of my life since we moved in with Derek.
But that is obviously not how he ruined everything.
I invited Kaysee over after school on that Friday. We planned on watching movies and eating junk food and she was going to spend the night.
We stopped at the grocery store on our way home to get the food. As we walked in the door, Derek was walking down the stairs. Their eyes met and she turned to me.
"Are you freaking kidding me? Can I use your bathroom?"
"Down the hall and to the left," I said, pointing down the hall. Once she was gone. I smiled at Derek. "I guess you still haven't managed to charm her."
"No," he said, sitting down on the stairs. "She won't let me talk to her."
"Well you did treat her like a new piece of ass."
"How?" he said. He honestly didn't know what he did. "That's why I want to talk to her again!"
"You do like her, don't you?" Why was I being so nice to him? Maybe it was the situation. I have never seen him like this. Usually, he'd just move on to another girl. Not this time.
"Yeah," he said, looking up at me. "I do."
Shit. Was I really going to do this for him? My one friend that didn't like him and I was going to try to get her to like him. Fabulous.
I sighed. "I'll talk to her."
Derek, who was staring at the steps below him, his head in his hands, looked up with a shocked look on his face. "Really?" His facial expression changed. "What's the catch? What are you going to tell her?" He glared at me.
"Nothing," I said. I couldn't believe I was being so nice to him. I don't blame him for his being suspicious of me. "Really. I don't really want to help you but for some reason I am. Thanks for being so grateful."
Kaysee came out of the bathroom and we walked towards my room, passing him on the stairs. As I walked by him, he whispered, "Thank you."
When we got to my room, I told her the whole story. I told her that he didn't mean to sound and look like he wanted to get sexual and that was just his voice and face. I explained that he felt really bad (after explaining how he would normally act) and that he was truly sorry.
And of course, her whole thought of Derek changed. They got to know each other, not sexually, and they ended up dating. Their relationship is his longest, proving that he really had feelings for her and not her body. And because of all this, I am spending more time with Derek, much to my dismay.
And that's how Derek ruined everything. Not only my chance of having a friend who didn't like him, but also my streak of being a sister. I actually helped him with something and now I don't even know what to think.
Boy, I can't stand Derek!
