It was Armageddon.
When it first started, none of us could understand. One minute we were at a recreational camp the next, 13 of us were on a strange.. Plane... at least; a plane was the closest thing it resembled.
We could see a wall of rolling fire, from the ground to high above the sky; making its way towards us as a Timer next to the pilot seat was decreasing from 5:00 at an alarming rate. One of the two teachers (the only adults among us) climbed into the pilot seat and tried to make it move. Eventually the plane seemed to spring forward, the camp and surrounding landscape became blurred colours below us; the time on the Timer had slowed down before increasing. It told of how close to that wall of destruction we were.
We sped forward for a few hours before the plane seemed to take control of its self before landing, the Timer said we had about half an hour. Exiting the cockpit, we discovered that the plan had stopped us at our local community hall, people we know, friends, neighbours were all walking into the building, worried looks adorned their fatigued faces, it was just after dawn.
Upon entering, we found out warning bells had been rung and a meeting had been called. Outside the windows half the sky was covered in a strange swirling mist coloured with deep reds and purple - the warning of the coming fire storm.
We stood at the back of the hall as the adults argued about what to do (for none of them knew what was actually coming) before the 13 of us suddenly looked at each other. We felt a tugging; a need to get back to the plane, a need to flee, the 30 minutes was almost up...
As we were leaving, I spotted my family. My mother. My father. My two sisters. On the plane there was 17 seats yet to be filled, 2 in the main cockpit... there was room. I tried to run towards them as the meeting was dismissed, but the other teacher pulled me back, almost dragging me back to the plane before we took off once again, the Timer read 3:34 .
Over the next few hours we had found out a few things. Watches, each showing the time on the Timer as well as a unique word written on the band were found, with each of us taking one; numerous supplies were found as well, enough for us to stay on the plane for almost years if need be. Another thing we found out was that the plane only responded to certain people. Depending on where we sat when we first got on, depended if we got a 'job'. A short while later the word on the watch band changed, telling us who we were... The teacher was the pilot, since she was the first to sit in that seat... And I, who had sat across from her, was the co-pilot. In front of me looked to be a radar, a small red circle in the middle... I was the fighter, the one to shoot what ever this thing would shoot... not that I wanted to.
Once again the plane seemed to take control of its self as we hovered close to earth before what appeared to be a female doctor almost materialized into one of the remaining seats; we had our 'medic'. A short while later we figured out that one of the words on the remaining watches said 'General'. At first we thought it could mean anyone, but one of the others said that it could mean army general. I thought of my Dad for he had been in the army for over 20 years. I managed to convince them to go to my house so we could get him... The Timer read 10:37 . We touched down on my front lawn; you could already feel the heat from the oncoming flames. I ran inside and found my dad; he was sitting at his computer as if nothing was wrong. I told him he had to come with me now... he just said in a minute and begun to ring someone. I started pleading, feeling the time disappear as if it was slipping through my fingers. One sentence echoing through my head... "He's going to die..." I looked down as the watch as the timer hit 1:00. Begging him to follow I ran outside, and jumped into the plane. As plants around my house, my home began to catch alight because of the intense heat the teacher began to lift the plane up. I kept shouting... crying out.... and I saw my dad run out to the front....
Right before he was violently burnt to ash... right in front of me. I could here his screams as I saw his flesh burning and withering... Later everyone said that he wasn't screaming, it was me who was...
The Timer read 0:24 when we began to escape again.
