Wings Of A Cloud - Chapter Four

Aiden sat on the large rock, throwing stones into the water, and getting angrier with each one that skimmed the surface. 1

“Aiden?”2

She stiffened at the voice, but didn’t turn around. “Go away, Ash.” She sighed as he appeared in her pereferial vision. “I don’t want to talk to you right now,” she said with forced calmness.3

“I understand that, but I have to talk to you.”4

She shook her head slightly as her eyes clenched tight. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but… you’re a fucking asshole.”5

He kept his mouth shut to avoid responding. She was angry, and he understood her needing to lash out. “I’m sorry.”6

“Oh, shut up!” She looked at him as she tossed a rock to the water, and shattered it with her mind. The fragments drifted to the water. “Sorry? For what? For not telling me that everyone I loved would be taken in one night? For lying to me since we met? For stopping me from killing Pierce yesterday?” She glared as he watched her. “I could have killed him like that,” she snapped her fingers, “without a second thought.”7

“No you couldn’t.”8

“No?” Her eyes flased red for a moment. “Why not? Not like I was bonded with him. Now I know why he didn’t want to bond... I knew he never loved me, and the feeling was mutual, but damn it.” Electricity shimmered around her in anger. “I detest being some cosmic pawn!”9

Ash watched as she turned from him and hugged her arms around her. “Aiden...” She spun so fast that he took an involuntary step back. He could feel the power coursing through her and see the destruction she could unleash if she allowed herself to. “It’s fate that…”10

“Fate?” she asked incredulously. “Fate?! Those bitches can fuck off for all I care. .. get their jollies off someone else’s misery.”11

Ash tried to placate her.. cursing the fates was never a good idea. “Be careful-”12

“Careful?” she interrupted. “What?? What the hell else can they do to me?? Huh? They mated me to a murderer who would rather knock me around than give a kind word, then killed everyone I loved and tried to kill me.” She looked at the sky. “Bring it, Fates! Throw all you want at me, and I’ll still come back with a hearty fuck you!!!”13

Ash took a step to her, but stopped.14

“Back the hell away from me, Acheron,” she said in a low voice. 15

Ash held his hands by his side and gave her some space. He saw a glow behind her and watched as another figure appeared. 16

Aiden put her head back and inhaled as he tried to calm herself down. She was angry and pissed, but that didn’t mean she had to do what she desperately wanted to do.  She spun as a voice whispered in her ear. 17

“Let it out…”18

Aiden stared at the handsome man who was standing just behind her. “Who are you?”19

He ignore the question. “You’ve got all that anger… let it out,” he whispered in a soothing voice.20

Her eyes flashed red, then dimmed as the stranger smiled in anticipation. “Fuck you,” she said, then turned and stormed away. 21

“Now that’s one pissed off avian.”22

Ash approached the stranger. “You like playing with danger?”23

Savitar raised an eyebrow. “Don’t we all?” He watched as Aiden exploded more rocks around her. “The fates aren’t too happy with that outburst…”24

Ash grimaced. “I know.”25

“She’ll have to pay for it.”26

“How?”27

Savitar sighed in appreciation at the destruction that was unfolding before him. “That’s up to her.” He took a step back as Aiden suddenly appreared in front of them. “All done?”28

She gave him a droll look. “I don’t know who you are, so just fuck off.” She gave him a good once over, taking in his rather casually dressed appearance. “Or, if you happen to be Savitar, which would fit right in to my luck at the moment, please excuse me while I have a moment with Mr. Parthenopaeus.”29

Ash grimaced at the use of his last name as Savitar nodded, slightly amused at her attitude, and took a step back.30

Aiden inhaled through her nose in an atempt to calm down. “Have you been my friend for the past one-hundred plus years, or were you just using me to get to this point?”31

Ash felt hurt by the question, and his eyes flashed red.32

Aiden glared. “Don’t pull the Evil Ash on me,” she snapped. “I’m so not in the mood for it, and would rather you dust my ass than have you lie to me any longer.”33

His eyes returned to their silver swirl. He had no desire to, as she had so eloquently put it, dust her ass. “I’m sorry it had to happen this way.”34

They traded glares as Savitar watched. He had to give the eagle some credit…he’d seen stronger people cower under the gaze that Acheron was giving her. She was not only holding up under it, but returning a rather lethal looking one of her own. This was a pivital time, and if the avian chose the wrong path, it would change far too many futures. He couldn’t let that happen. “As interesting as this stare-off is,” he said, “We have things to do.” He looked at Aiden. “All done with the tantrum?”35

Aiden ignored him. “I want to know exactly what is expected of me.”36

“No.”37

She closed her eyes as she saw her past slipping away. “Goodbye, Ash.” Then she vanished.38

“Gaaaa…” Ash growled in annoyance. He turned to Savitar. “What will telling her now harm?”39

“You know the answer to that,” he said. “Too many things could go wrong if she knows. Our survival is completely up to her.”40

~~~~~~~~~~41
Aiden paced from one end of her apartment to the other, then back again. She looked at a figurine on a shelf, exploding it with her magick, then putting it back together to explode again. She looked as a knocking sounded at her door, and went to it. 42
She opened it and sighed at the figures there. 43
“We have to talk to you.”44
She turned with an aggrivated sigh, leaving the door open for the two immortals to enter. “Lemme guess,” she said as she got herself a cup of coffee. “The world will self destruct unless I help you, but there’s some dumb assed catch and it’ll most likely blow up in my face and kill me.. but, oh, hey…everyone will be safe and secure as a result…”45
“Something like that,” Savitar said easily. 46
“Of course it is.” Aiden rubbed a hand over her face. She willed the stereo on, the chorus of “Violet’ by Hole blasting through the room. 47
Ash winced as ‘go on take everything’ vibrated through him, and motioned for the volume to lower. 48
Aiden shut it off completely with a glance. “Why me?”49
“Why not you?” Savitar responded.50
She gave him a dirty look, then faced Ash. “I want the truth from you.” She walked up to him, climbed on the couch so she could stare straight in to his eyes. “Are we a lie?”51
Ash forced himself not to cringe at her question. “Yes, and no,” he answered. “I saw this coming, after I first met you and had to make sure it happened as it was suppose to.” He could tell by the look in her eyes that it hurt her to hear that. Her thoughts were closed to him which he was actually relieved to discover. He didn’t think he wanted to hear what she was thinking. “But… our friendship is real. You’ve become a good part of the past one-hundred years.” Then he did something that surprised even Savitar. He brought his head down to touch her forehead, and closed his eyes. 52
Aiden jerked slightly, then relaxed as images of them filled her mind. The friendship was definitely real, and she could feel her anger slipping away. Ash pulled back, and walked to the other side of the room.53
Aiden stepped off the couch and faced the beings. “What now?” she sighed in resignation.54
“That’s up to you,” Savitar said. 55
“Up to me?” Aiden asked. “Is this going to kill me?”56
“That’s also up to you.”57
Aiden at on the couch and put her head in her hands to think. “What happens if I say no?”58
“I’ll kill you and find some way to get it done without you.”59
She stared at Savitar, and shook her head. “You think that threat scares me?”60
“Not at all.” He gave her a cruel smile. “But, there are fates worse than death.”61
She returned the smile. “Yeah.. surviving. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, got the tattoo… wanna see?”62
“You’re not helping matters.”63
“If my mother were here, what would she advise me to do?”64
Savitar and Ash traded surprised glances at the question. They had both known her mother, and recognized the ‘no-nonsense attitude’ alive and well in her daughter. Savitar titled his head slightly. “Creda would most likely advise you to tell me to shove it someplace the sun doesn’t shine…then I would talk to her, and she would tell you to trust me.”65
“What would you say to her?”66
“Things that I can’t tell you.”67
Aiden sighed. Her mother had been killed by a Katagaria wolf pack a year before she met Pierce. She ran her hands over her face as she reached a decision. “I’m going to trust Ash…” she looked at Savitar. “On one condition…”68
“Which is?”69
She looked at Ash. “When this is over, you have to spend an entire day dressed in non-leather white.”70
Savitar gave an evil chuckle at the look that crossed Ash’s face. “You know, Ash, I think I‘m beginning to like her.” He looked at Aiden. “I give my word that he will.”71
“Savitar,” Ash warned.72
“It’s not like she’s asking you to cut your hair, you know.”73
“Do we have a deal?” Aiden asked. “Or do I poof someplace you’d never find me?”74
“You could never hide from me,” Savitar said in a slight warn. “Trust me on that one.” He took a step back. “I’ll let Ash tell you what is expected.” He vanished before anyone could object.75
Aiden sat on the arm of the couch and stared at her old friend. “Well…”76
“Just do what I say and…”77
“….everything should work out fine?” she scoffed. “No offence, Ash, but… that sounds like something you say when you have no fuckin’ idea what’s going to happen.”78
Ash sighed. Savitar was right, she wasn’t going to make this easy.79
Aiden put up her hands. “Look… I changed my mind. I don’t want to know what’s going to happen. I just… don’t.”
    This chapter was as hilarious as the last one, if not more so. I love female characters who have a strong back bone, and humor to boot. Aiden is my new favorite character- and Ash of course. Have to love those brooding-dress-in-black characters.
    There were a few wording issues, but otherwise this was great. Have a good day!
