Synopsis1

Agent 00 Squirrel gets a call from his superiors in the Squirrel Intelligence Agency (SIA). They tell him someone has been stealing the food supplies of all the people in the Big Woods. His mission is to find the culprit and bring him to justice. 2

He goes to the Big Woods to begin his investigation. The first person he meets is Sally Skunk. Upon questioning her, he finds that she doesn't know anything, but she does suggest he talk to a Mrs. Hedgehog and tells him where to find her. 3

00 finds Mrs. Hedgehog, who tells him she saw a shadow slinking around the Chitters' tree late the night before their food was discovered missing. She informs him that the Chitters are a family of chipmonks who live in a hollow tree near the center of the Big Woods. He decides to go talk to the Chitters. 4

He finds the Chitters' tree and talks to Timmy Chitter who is playing outside. Timmy says he didn't see anything, so Agent Squirrel goes to speak with Mother Chitter. She tells him the family awoke the day before to find their food supply had been stolen. There were no clues as to who had taken it. He leaves and Timmy stops him to ask him if he can help solve the mystery. He tells him it is too dangerous and goes on his way.5

00 Squirrel walks toward a tree where he sees a hollow and meets up with Father Chitter, who is scurrying about, nervously, trying to collect all the food he can. He decides to leave Father Chitter alone for the time being and goes on to the hollow tree. He finds a very old squirrel living there. The squirrel says his name is Sam. Someone has stolen Sam's food supply also. He doesn't know who and didn't see anything. There are no clues to be found. Sam is afraid he will have to go live with his daughter and her family. 00 assures him that he is on the case. He leaves to find more "witnesses."6

He soon finds that everyone is a suspect, since no one but Mrs. Hedgehog saw anything. He stakes out one of the trees that has not been hit yet. Night after night, he sits up in a corner to catch the criminal. Finally, the thief strikes and 00 Squirrel springs his trap. He has his man. It is Willy Weasel, who goes off to jail to await his day in court.7
