“No, you shut up!” 2
Aiden Falconidae sighed, rolled her eyes and turned the volume up even louder on her mp3 player as the two behind her continued to argue. The volume of all three were hurting her ears, but she much preferred Cheap Tricks’ ‘Ain’t That A Shame’ over the sounds of the other two.3
Keegen sharpened his knife while he argued, fighting back the urge to ram it into the other person’s chest. Not that it would matter, since it would do nothing more than hurt him even more, and seriously piss the woman off. Silly rule, he thought, that whatever one Dark-Hunter did to another, they original got it back ten times worse.4
Leani stared as he continued to sharpen the weapon. “Damn it, man,” she spat, “keep that up, and you’ll have nothing more than a handle left.”5
“At least I take care of my things.”6
“What’s that suppose to mean?” she demanded, placing her hands on her hips. 7
He rolled his eyes as he continued to sharpen. “Take it however you want.”8
Aiden bumped the music up another notch, cringing as it began to vibrate in her ears.9
“You’re such a prick,” Leani said.10
“And you’re a twat,” Keegen replied.11
“You’re both prickish twats,” Aiden said as she took the earphones off her head.12
“What?” they both replied. 13
“And twatish pricks,” she supplied as she leaned away from the wall and looked at them. “Your arguing is probably carrying over the entire city, and everyone knows we’re here.”14
“Fuck off,” they both told her.15
“As long as you’re both quiet while I do it.”16
Keegan was about to reply when a small sound made him turn. Leani was immediately alert, her black eyes scanning the area from under her auburn bangs. All three stood straight as a figure walked out of the darkness, then relaxed as they recognized him. 17
Not that it would have been hard; a six foot eight male Goth was hard to miss. A long flowing black jacket covered black leather pants and a Godsmack t-shirt. Fingerless leather gloves and biker boots finished off a rather magnificently intimidating portrait. The figure slung his ever-present black leather backpack off his shoulder and placed it by his feet.18
At over eleven thousand years old, and looking no more than twenty-one, the original, and Head Dark-Hunter, looked at them expectantly.19
Although Aiden had known him for over one hundred years, he never ceased to amaze her with his appearance. Six foot eight, sexy as sin, and sporting long blue hair…Aiden blinked, then looked again. Yeah, the Ash-man had blue hair. She sighed. “Nice ‘do.”20
Acheron Parthenopaeus raised an eyebrow, and then looked at the two with her. “Leani? Keegen? Stop being prickish twats, understood?”21
Aiden resisted the urge to laugh. She covered her mouth slightly, and turned away. She couldn’t help herself at Ash’s next line. 22
“Or was it twatish pricks?”23
Keegen glared at her back as she shook with laughter. “Knock it off, chick.”24
Aiden turned to him wiped a tear away, and sucked in a breath to calm herself. “I’m an eagle, not a chick.”25
“Whatever.”26
She sighed. “Damn shame,” she said, as she looked him over. Six foot three, solid muscle and a body that would be the envy of anyone…”Body of a porn king, and not a brain in that gorgeous head.”27
He snarled, showing fangs, and took a step towards her. Leani placed herself between them. 28
“Back it up, Keeg,” she said.29
“Oh, let him come,” Aiden said. 30
“Enough.” The word was said calmly, but there was no mistaking Ash’s order behind it, or the threat if it was ignored. He glanced at Aiden, and she turned to walk a little to the side with him.31
“What’s up, Ash?” she asked. “I’ve got some classic rock calling me…” she held up her MP3 player as the sounds of ‘Back In Black’ straining through the ear buds.32
Ash picked up one small buds in his large hands and held it up near his ear. He listened for a few seconds before letting it fall back down. “Have you flown near the mountains recently?”33
She searched his handsome face, but as usual, it gave nothing away. “Not in a couple weeks,” she told him. “Hunting season always makes me nervous.” She clicked her music off and blindly put it in her jacket pocket. “Why?”34
“There have been a lot of hikers missing lately.”35
“Heard about that.”36
“You’re the only ‘Were’ with wings that’s in the area…”37
Aiden smiled slightly, knowing that he meant that she was the only avian in the area that still talked to him. “And this concerns you…how?”38
“Don’t like it when people vanish,” he said, making it sound like it was a rather obvious answer.39
“You’re thinking Daimon colony somewhere in the mountains, aren’t you?” He returned her gaze silently. “If you want me to take flight, just let me know.” She glanced at the dragon tattoo on his arm. “Can you ask Simi if she wants to come?”40
“You’re not afraid of being drenched in barbecue sauce?”41
She smiled slightly. “I bribe her with popcorn and chicken strips.”42
“I’ll ask her.”43
“Let me know tomorrow or the next day,” Aiden turned away, but looked back. “Please don’t send those two to find me.” She shook her head. “Please.”44
He watched as she walked a little to the side, then she seemed to close in on herself as her body glowed and shrunk. Almost immediately, a large golden eagle took flight and disappeared into the dark sky. 45
Ash turned his attention to the other two. His Dark-Hunters returned his gaze, but both looked uncomfortable. “Split up,” he said. “You’re draining each other’s power.” 46

Ash walked through the streets of the mountain city, constantly aware of his surroundings, but taking the time to enjoy the fresh air and clear night skies. His eyes tracked a group of young women who passed him on the opposite side of the street, his vision perfect despite the dark glasses he was wearing. All the women stopped at the site of him, a few making some suggestive comments to what he could be doing with them. He waved at the group as he continued walking, and rounded to corner to joking cries of dismay and more than a few yelled phone numbers. 48
Did you ask her? A voice said in his head.
You know I did he replied back as he opened the door to a small diner and walked in. He picked a booth near the window so he could see the intersection and most of the street, and sat back. How about filling me in on the rest of this.
Not yet. Depends on what she sees in the mountains. Stay with her for a few days.
Easier said than done Ash replied as the waitress arrived. “Beer, please. Local's fine.” He waited until she walked away. She’s not exactly social these days.
You’ll find a way. Later. The voice vanished, to be replaced with the multitude of ones that Ash heard every second.49
“Surf’s up,” Ash whispered as his beer arrived. Although he didn’t need food, he doubted that the waitress would let him remain long without ordering something. He needed to stay for at least thirty minutes to see if his gut instincts had been right about tonight.50

Aiden landed on a penthouse balcony railing high above the city. Hopping down to the floor, she quickly reverted back to her human self and willed some clothes on her body. Opening the patio door, she walked into her condo and padded barefoot across the hardwood floor. Ignoring the couch, she went to the stereo, transferring the MP3 music to the speakers, then went to the kitchen as “I Was So Much Older Then” by The Byrds drifted through the speakers.
Grabbing an apple from the counter, she went back to the patio, and leaned against the railing as the music played. Although it was well past midnight, she had no worries of disturbing her neighbors. She owned the condos on both sides, as well as below. At one time they had been an urban aeries, with multiple avian families living in them. Now they were empty. 52
She sighed at the thought of being alone, even if it had been her choice. The remaining families hadn’t exactly fought her over her staying while they left, and part of her felt a slight betrayal at that. Although, she couldn’t exactly blame them. Had she been one of them she would have left her without a second thought.
Author notes
With my posting this, I’m assuming that you already know of the Dark-Hunter world created by Sherrilyn Kenyon. If not, then check out Dark-Hunter.com, and then come back…. Or…. Better yet, open that site in another window, and read this at the same time
Yes, yes, yes… I took HUGE allowances with the world, and may have altered a few things (maybe). This fiction is based on the knowledge gained from both the web site, and the books in the series that I have read to date. Some characters are Dark-Hunter regulars Like: Ash, Artemis, Savitar, and Stryker, while others are my creation.
So, this is my disclaimer that this(Dark-Hunter and it’s characters) is so not my creation, and just the general idea of this story is mine, along with the characters that I created.

It's ok, but I didn't think eagles were a species in Were-Hunters. Its a pretty good start though.beginning: 2, language: 5, plot: 3, ending: 4, dialog: 4, characters: 5.

Thank you for your honesty
When I get stuck on something in the future, I usually come back and pick through myold things, rewriting them... this one might join the list.
The eagles are from the Gerikan branch, which includes hawks, falcons, and eagles
('Unleash the Night' has a DH glossary included in the back... and I think it's worn out from me looking for info)

Ah, yes. One of my favorite genres.... Were-Hunters.
Dark-Hunters are cool, but rather whiny... "I died, waa, waa, waa"
anyway, I like this. It's easy to read and has some good structure to it. The banter between the characters is excellent. And if your kids stay asleep while you're gone, I can read the whole novel
beginning: 5, language: 4, plot: 5, ending: 3, dialog: 4, characters: 5.

hmmmm make sure to send me the links of when you finish the next chapters so I can read and not miss out

I'm very interested in where this is going, so please continue! I, of course, really know nothing about the "Dark Hunters" and even though I read your disclaimer I didn't go to the website yet... I was to intrigued with your story first. I'll visit it soon though.... Anyway, great start! I'll be looking for the next chapter. Have a good day.
