Race Of A Lifetime chapter 1

Charlotte Motor Speedway - Charlotte, North Carolina. May 29th.

J.D. glanced at his watch. It was almost time. His nerves turned a flip in his stomach, turning it upside down. His hand clenched the yellow helmet that matched the yellow racing suit that clung to his body like a second skin. His large physique fit snug in his seat. His broad shoulders, muscular frame and six foot length made him feel right at home in his car, for he had a need. A need for speed. It occured once a week, twice if he was lucky. He battled each race for the pole to start the race. If he qualified as pole leader. He had a chance to win the race, and drive to victory lane. He knew he had to remain the leader in point standings to win the season. He had to command the race because the races were
his life.

He was a loner, no one to hold him on the cold nights, so he made his car his wife. His body ached from the previous race. The track was an evil one. His car had no hopes of making it home in one piece. He had rounded the second turn ran into an oil spot. The next thing he knew was that he was airborne. The car rolled end over end until it came to a rest on it's top. He suffered a cut over his left eye, his ribs were bruised, once again his guardian angel watched over him like so many times before. He lived dangerously but he lived whe so many were not as fortunate. People think being a race car driver was fun but it's not. If you make the slightest mistake your not only endangering your life but the lives of your fellow drivers.

J.D. was about to calm his fears by starting the race, a place where tranquility would take over. A peace came over him as he got ready to drive. Driving was the only place he could concentrate.
, and win. He wasn't a loser any longer. It was his time to, he climbed in his car, reached the destination as pole leader.
His train of thought was kicking in, his nerves were calming down as he let the clutch out. He began to race after the pace car left the track.

When the checkered flag fell a few grueling hours later. He stood in the spotlight at victory lane.
J.D. Sweetin made his way back to his car some three hours later. He slung his bag into the rental car as he climbed inside heading to the airport. He wanted to be home with his mother. He sighed it was a shame to be twenty-eight years old and still living at home but he loved her dearly, and the only other woman he loved tore his world apart when she left him standing at the altar.
He drove to the airport with a thousand thoughts running through his mind.
J.D. rested on the small cessna plane as it flew him home. He needed someone to love but was afraid too try it again.
