Chapter One
Silence filled the air in Courpaul Mississippi. A blanket of ebony spread across the sky shimmering it’s embedded jewels as the only light of the town. Winds blew softly through the trees. The crickets sung their songs of sleep to the creatures of day.
Ten miles out of this peaceful town sat a farm house. It was built twenty years ago on this date. The Karcons build their home, and training grounds out here, because they were among the few that knew of the dangers lying ahead. Most thought the Karcons were insane. Some had gone so far as to call social services on these people to take their only child away from them. An unexplained event occurred, however, and they were never approached by child services again.
Running terrified out of the woods fifteen year old Samantha Karcon stumbled out of the forest by her home trying not to scream. She fell over a tree root in the darkness. Being hurled to the ground a memory flashed in her head.
Lying still in a barn yard Samantha was listening carefully for her father’s voice.
“It will happen.” came the figure less words. “It will happen Sammy. They will gain the higher ground. You will find yourself in the situation of being trapped. It will be black all around you. You won’t see anything, but don’t panic. Think, and listen for the slightest noise. Use you’re senses. Wait for them to come to you. They will think that they’ve won. Play their little game. Make them think that you’ve given up. When you feel them coming, act.” There was no more speaking.
Samantha could hear the loud chirp of the crickets. She felt the wind brush against her face. Then it all seemed to stop. It was almost as if all time had ceased to move. At that moment Samantha knew what her father had been telling her.
Her eyes flashed open. She was back in the present. Starring up she saw the black figure barreling down on her. It’s eyes were a bright scarlet. Shouting Samantha lifted her arms and legs. It landed directly on her. The hands of the creature and her’s grasped onto each other. Using her feet as leverage she flipped this thing over her head and into a tree. Pulling out a knife she had been carrying in her pocket, she drove the blade through it’s shoulder sticking it to a tree.
The demon let out a sharp cry as Samantha rushed into the open field. Her hands trembled as her legs pumped as hard as she could make them go. It was to much for her to handle. She had never heard her parents scream like that. Samantha lost all sight of what was happening as the attack kept playing over and over again in her head.
“Don’t go to far ahead.” cried Samantha’s mother. She nodded and then ran off to a good tree. Climbing into the best spot she settled down and looked all around herself. This was the best tree to sit in. You could see almost anywhere within visual distance from it. Looking down to see if her parents had caught up to her yet, Samantha saw a shadow dash between the trees. A deadly silence fell over her as her eyes drifted to her parents. She opened her mouth and tried to scream out to them, but felt a blow on her back. Samantha went tumbling down. She grabbed a branch right as she fell. Looking up a tall figure glared down at her.
She gasped and released the branch. Landing on the ground Samantha turned to her parents. A look of horror washed over her face. Her mother lay dead in the arms of her father. Next to them was a large beast motionless. Blood dripped from all three of them. “Samantha ” cried her father. He put his wife down and lunged forward. He jumped on the figure that had just attacked Samantha moments before. She watched her father struggling in vain to keep the creature off his daughter. The Karcons had never actually encountered these monsters before, yet this is what they had been preparing for, for so long.
“Run ” he shouted to his daughter. Samantha turned and started to flee as he said. Duty took over though making her turn around. As she did an unearthly scream echoed through the woods. Seeing her father die Samantha had no reason to stay behind now.
The house was now in view. She wiped the tears away that were blurring her vision so badly now. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a small key. Reaching the stairs the mix of adrenaline and fear collided. Samantha went flying down onto the wooded stairs by the house. Her key went flying.
A moment of utter failure swept over her. It was too dark now. There was no way to tell where the key landed. Jumping to her feet she raced up the steps. She jiggled the door but it was locked. With a quick turn she could see two creatures were about half way to the house.
Rushing off the steps Samantha raced around to the back door. It was locked too. Looking around frantically she caught sight of a large piece of wood. Smashing in the window she reached in with a trembling hand and unlocked the door from the inside, but not without slicing herself. Rushing inside she shut the door. Her parents was the first room on the right but Samantha went for the second room on the right. It was the bathroom.
She quickly washed the blood off. Grabbing a wrap she tied it in a hurry then froze. Footsteps could be heard inside the house now. Soon the sound of sniffing was right outside bathroom door.
A tall man burst into the bathroom. He looked around but saw no one. Walking to the shower he slid open the door. No one was inside. He spun around and rushed to the sink. Samantha’s blood still stained part of it. He ran his pale finger through it. Gazing at it for a moment the demon licked it off his finger then left.
The footsteps proceeded upstairs; Samantha let out of a sigh. She slid down into the tub. She had crawled up to the ceiling using the wall and shower doors. Samantha had braced herself there until he left.
Tiptoeing out of the bathroom she slid quietly into her parents room. Tears were flooding down her cheeks again. No light would be turned on though. She couldn’t risk them finding her too soon.
Walking blindly over to her parents dresser she pulled out a small flashlight. She sighed and shuffled over to the bed. Getting down on her knees Samantha leaned down. It was good to be on her knees. She didn’t want to get up. It was like she would collapse if she got up again.
She turned the light on to find a small box under the bed. It was black and cold to the touch. Reaching under she pulled it out quickly. Inside were two guns. She pulled out both. Into one gun she slipped silver bullets. In the other small stakes.
Fear was now replaced. The tears stopped flowing. Anger, hatred, and revenge slipped into her eyes. Standing up slowly Samantha let out a small breath. Waiting a few moments in silence she stomped on the floor twice.
From the upstairs feet rushed through the house back into the main level of the house. There was a brief moment of silence then her parents door was bashed in. A vampire stood next to a werewolf. Both were covered in her parents blood. The werewolves had ambushed her mother. Her father killed one, but not before his wife’s life was ripped away.
“Bastards.” Samantha whispered under her breath. The underworld’s children leapt at her. The guns went off. There was screaming. Then a thud. Then nothing.
When morning came Samantha got to work. She brought the vampire out into the sun light to burn away. With much struggle she got her parents bodies, and the bodies of the werewolves into her father’s truck. Covering the bodies with a tarp she got into the driver’s seat. She only had a permit but it didn’t matter.
Turning over the engine she slowly road into town. With a glance in the rear view mirror, she took another look. It was so peaceful looking. The day had started everything new. Almost as if the events of the night before had never taken place.
Samantha made sure that everyone in the town knew exactly what had happened. She revealed the werewolves bodies to plain sight. A new found fear crept into the heart of the town. Everything the Karcons had said was real. Samantha at this time was the only one from the town, beside a local priest who had ever encountered werewolves and vampires.
The future would prove chaotic for everyone. Soon it would be an everyday occurrence that vampires and werewolves roamed among people. Ten years would end up passing, before a new legend would be made and spoke of by every living person in the town. The sad part was that two people had to die, to prove what evils were truly out there.
Author notes
All right. So this is the first real chapter. I've already written the entire story once, and now I am revising it. So just a little side note. I've actually almost completely changed the first chapter because I wasn't happy with it. Let me know what you think.
Please tell me what you think

Yeah. I noticed it was a little different. The same general stuff was going on though.
Critique:
I didn't really like the line about the embedded jewels. Sounded like you were trying to hard to be poetic to me.
Also, you seemed to have a lot of commas that didn't really need to be there and where there could have been some there weren't. For the most part I didn't see any punctuation problems though.
You have "figure less" in there. One word, right?
Um. What else. Oh. I really hated the "Bastards." Thought that was really... corny. I'd rather have some more... intelligent then that like, "You think you can live with what you've done."
That's about it. I thought it was good. Liked the part about how the new day made it seem like nothing had happened. I know that feeling all too well.

Cool thanks for the comment Frodie. Yeah I'd have to agree with the Bastards, I never really found anything I'd rather put in it's place so till I do I guess it will have to stay. lol
