Love is in Our Hands: Chapter 1

Chapter 1:

When she heard her brothers were up she went to see them.

“Lizzy look at me” adam said.

Adam was six and Brendan was ten. They both roughhoused regularly but Mrs. Tucker hated it when the boys broke something. Mr. Tucker soon followed Mrs. Tucker in the kitchen to start breakfast.

“Lizzy, tonight there is a ball tonight hosted by a guest of the town, he is a rich merchant, why don’t you go tonight with Katherine?” her mother suggested.

“Alright. I’ll go, I guess” Lizzy agreed. “but I haven’t a dress proper for this occasion” she protested

“Yes you do, I bought you one several days ago, why cant you remember you silly girl” her mother said while getting breakfast ready.

Lizzy decided to skip breakfast and go see Kathy, her best friend. Kathy Murphy was much more beautiful than Lizzy. Kathy had beautiful long red Irish hair and glowing green eyes, unlike Lizzy. Lizzy had long blond hair that was turning brown, she was very thin and short. The only thing she liked about herself was her eyes, she had clear crystal blue eyes. When she went to her room she found her cloak and left the house to walk to Kathy’s. Kathy lived half a mile away from Lizzy, they had been friends for years. Kathy’s family was very rich, they owned a farm and several stores in town. she walked up to the house to find Kathy sitting on the porch reading a book.

“Kathy, hello, how are you?” asked Lizzy.

“I’m quite well, but I’m very tired” Kathy said.

“Listen Kathy, would you like to go to a ball with me tonight? The new guests of the town are hosting it” Lizzy said.

“yes! I would love to go! There will be single men there right?” asked Kathy.

“Oh I’m sure there will be” said Lizzy. Both the girls laughed and walked back to Lizzy’s house to get ready for the ball.

As evening approached them, they found the perfect dresses to wear. It was a casual ball, but Kathy simply wanted to dress up. Lizzy had on a casual green dress. She didn’t mind. She is only going because she wants to leave the house. A coach waits for them both to come. Once they had finally arrived to the mansion, they saw the elegantly beautiful home. Lizzy thought it was amazing, she couldn’t believe it.

“Hello ladies, may I take your coats?” asked a very handsome man with hair like Kathy’s

“Yes thank you sir” Lizzy replied.

“My name is Mr. Moor, and who might you be” Mr. Moor asked turning to Kathy.

“I’m Katherine Murphy, but you may call me Kathy” she said blushing

“Kathy, a beautiful name I must say” he said

“Would you like to dance?” he asked her

“Sir, I would love to” she said while clasping his hand and he leading her to the dance floor.

Lizzy watched the happy couple dancing and laughing together. She wished, she herself could be that happy.

“Pardon me ma’am” a young gentleman said as he bumped into Lizzy.

When he saw her face for a glance he stopped. And stared

“Can I help you sir?” she asked

“Yes, what is your name?” he asked while staring into her.

When she glanced up at him she could not help but stare back at him. His face was so handsome. His hair was matted upon his head, looking like it was never brushed. His eyes were a light brown that drew her in

“Elizabeth Tucker” she muttered

“That is my name” she said

“Pray what is yours.” she asked

“I am Jonathan Lyle” he replied

“My dear Miss Elizabeth” he asked

“Yes?” she asked

“Please watch where you are going” he said bitterly.

She then lowered her head in shame, turned and walked away vowing never to talk to such an arrogate man again.

“Lizzy there you are!” replied Kathy grabbing her by the arm.

“Oh! isn’t this party so much fun!” said Kathy with such excitement.

“Yes, it is” Lizzy said with sorrow

“Whats wrong?” Kathy said with a worry in her voice.

“Nothing, can we just go home?” begged Lizzy

“Yes, alright, lets go home”

Kathy and Lizzy decided to walk home. When Kathy was home Lizzy walked in the front door of her house and heard her mother screaming

“William is ill!”

“The marriage must be delayed!!” She continued screaming.
