Nightfall - Chapter 2

Melinda woke up and found she was in a cement room. All that was in the room was a mattress and a chair. She pulled herself up and walked to the wood door. She wrapped her fingers around the handle and pulled, but it wouldn’t budge; it was locked. She heard someone above her and could tell someone was upstairs.

“This must be the basement,” she muttered to herself, “What happened exactly? All I remember is running through the woods… Wait… Was I kidnapped? If so then is that him upstairs? Will he kill me? I can certainly guarantee my dad won’t call the police to say I’m missing… he won’t even care,” Melinda started to cry, “I don’t want to die… or be hurt… I don’t want to be here, I want to be home with my mom! I want my mom to be alive! She would protect me!”

Finally after soaking her t-shirt she realized that crying won’t help. She needed to figure out why she was here and plan a way to escape. This time making a better plan then the one she had made earlier; this plan had to be flawless. She walked away from the door and over to the mattress to think. There was a big stain on it, at first she wasn’t sure what it was. Then she realized it was blood; possibly from past victims. She sat in front of the mattress and just stared at it. “Blood,” she said out loud, “Is he going to beat me?”

Melinda stood up and started to pace. She always like to pace instead of sitting, this way she at least felt like she was getting somewhere, not just sitting wasting time. She continued to talk herself through things, “I remember that he drugged me now. I wonder if I know him. I certainly don’t recognize this basement.” Melinda suddenly froze. “What if he plans to rape me or something?” She whipped round and stared at the blood stain on the mattress. Melinda was in so much shock she almost stopped breathing.

Suddenly she heard footsteps behind the door; someone was coming downstairs. She ran to the far wall and sat, for some reason she hoped space between them would get him to leave her alone. She heard the click of the lock and she watched as the door slowly opened.

Melinda couldn’t take her eyes off the figure that came in. The man was so tall. He had a long black coat with black underneath and long black hair tied back. The man’s face stood out so much to Melinda. His skin looked very pale, and up against the black clothes, and his electric blue colored eyes, it looked extremely abnormal and just plain eerie.

He closed the door behind him and started walking towards Melinda. She quickly curled up and screamed, “Get away from me! Not another step you creep!”

The man stopped where he was and responded to her, “Ah I thought you were awake my child.”

The man was going to say something else, but Melinda cut him off, “I’m not your child!” she screamed, “Don’t ever call me that!”

He gave a chuckle that made Melinda feel more unsafe than she already felt, and pulled the chair to where he was. He took a seat and stared at her. After a few minutes he finally said, “You can call me Thoris. Since I don’t think creep is very appropriate.”

Melinda is astonished, “And Why isn’t creep appropriate? You kidnapped me, and locked me in here to do god knows what with me!”

Thoris got up and walked over to her. He held out his hand and said, “Here trust me”.

“I have no reason to trust you!” Melinda screamed at him. Thoris gave her a look serious look and she knew that if she didn’t take his hand, it wouldn’t go over well, so she placed her hand in his. He helped her up and told her not to move. Melinda had no idea what would happen if she did move and she didn’t want to find out, so she did as he told her to.

Thoris moved his arm behind her and brought her body close enough to meet his. Without moving his arm away from her back, his other hand softly moved from her cheek, down her jaw line, and stopped under her chin. He carefully lifted her head so her eyes met his and said, “You will soon trust me, my child. You will soon understand why I have brought you here, and you will soon love me.”
