I knew you once, in another life.
A life that I left behind,
A life that still plays on my mind.
Our friendship was lost when I left,
Or at least I thought it was.
Yet hearing your name in the native tongue,
It felt like our friendship was never done.
When I heard of your tragedy, my home came flooding back.
The terror, the pain,
The memories, the joys.
No matter how hard we try to escape our homes,
There is no leaving.
Even though you have left this earth,
You will always be remembered in your home.
Even though this is happening everyday,
You never quite comprehend it,
Until it happens to someone you know.
Thandi, you did not deserve this,
No one ever does.
We will remember your spirit, those of us
Who are at home and also those who are further afield.
All we can hope is you are in a better home now.
Be free,
Be happy.
God Bless. Mwari Komborera
