Faithful Shadows

Chapter 6: Faithful Shadows1

Romericco stepped into the unguarded shadows stealthily. It was nightfall and he prowled along the streets of the park waiting. His black trench coat blew in to the wind, looking like shadows waning against the full moon's light. The streetlights had gone off hours ago, signaling the sign of the predator.  2

There suddenly was the sound of twigs snapping. It was a woman, her slim figure entering the sides of the park. With his night eyes protruding beyond the darkness, dilated black irises followed the figure. The woman was in her early thirties, short auburn hair, and3

fair complexion. Romericco licked his lips. His appetite had grown considerably in the past few days. Just looking at her made him long for the warm blood flowing through her veins. Slowly and as delicate as a breeze on the trees he moved through the shadows. Behind a tree, then in the corner near a street lamp, the shadows bore him even closer to her until he was an arm length away from her. She turned suddenly,4

breathing racked with nerves, and turned circumspect um. She tied her5

angora scarf tightly around her neck, and pulled her hat down over her ears.  It was cold, but she just couldn't help feel that there was a deliberate breeze on her neck. 6

Suddenly a figure stepped out of the winding shadows. He was tall, young, with black eyes and a complexion the colour of coffee with milk. He looked so beautiful, with a sculpted face like a cherub on a marble tombstone. He gazed at her with those intense eyes for a moment, then took her in his arms. 7

She was under his spell, she couldn't think, breathe, or even scream. Those eyes, enraged with passion and hunger glared at her. 8

His expression suddenly softened. He touched her cold cheek and whispered something in Spanish to her. 9

The expressionless look returned to his face and he opened his mouth. Large, glistening canines slicked from his gums. Taking a breath,10

he bent for her neck. He held her as a lover would, softly, almost lovingly, pulling her close taking in the floral scent of her hair. His lips caressed her neck. Almost a kiss if it hadn't been for the pain. 11

It was only a moment that the pain lasted, like a sting at the base of the throat. She relaxed, her mind drifting, there was a strange sucking noise. 12

Her thoughts suddenly became distant, drifting into darkness.13

Soon her vision was impaired, growing blacker and blacker. Until there was no more to see. 14

Romericco pulled away taking a breath of air. The sweet tang of her blood stilled his lips, tingling ever so slightly. Tonight he was feeling remorse for humans, as he always did at this time of the decade. He decided quickly that he had enough to last him for a little while. While only his hunger was settled, the lust of a kill was still in his mind. He didn't like to kill often. It was messy and especially hard in this day and age. A few hundred years ago, getting rid of a body was as easy as tossing a penny into a river. Now, humans had become more 15

technologically advanced. 16

He propped the woman's body up with one arm, and with the other retrieved a vial and a plastic syringe out of his coat pocket. The vial17

contained a solution another vampire had given him off the black market. It was undetectable by human forensics, and unless you were of supernatural birth was by no means detectable. The solution contained a concoction of different chemicals, that when applied properly, caused the victim to remember nothing of the past three days. 18

He quickly poured the solution into the syringe and injected the limp woman. He then sat her down at the nearby park bench. She would wake soon, oblivious to what had happened.   19

As a vampire fan this definately gets the thumbs up. There was a couple of grammatical glitches, but they are minor and not worth me covering in any great detail.

A good base chapter, very interesting and good flowing narrative. Your vampire also shows potential - Romericco - yep it definately works.

I enjoyed reading through this and it kept me interested, which is important because I have the patience span ofthismuch.

    Good luck in the contest,

    MarquisB

    Excellent write.

    Hats off ladies and gentlemen!!!
We have a new Bram Stoker amongst us.
A brilliantly told and imaginatively thought narrative
with quite chilling suspense. I predict a great future for this young lady as a writer.
She shows evidence of having passed through the hands of at least one first-class educator. Applause.
