It was "perfect", so they said. They never fought, never disagreed about anything, and even when they did, it was playful, flirtatious even. Nothing seemed even possible to go wrong. It was the relationship everybody dreams of having, it was the nightmare she was living.
The never fought, no, because there was never anything to fight about. They never saw each other alone, there were always other friends around. Or there would be family hanging out with them where ever they were. There was no way they could fight, someone would always end up reasoning through the situation. Without alone time, they could never talk, or have deep conversations. Honestly, how can you talk about something important when a five-year-old is trying to get attention constantly, or you're afraid that one of the friends hanging around will pass it around the school? There's no way.
Then there was the criticism, nothing about her was ever good enough for him. Nothing. She was too moody, too emotional, or too cold. Her clothes were bad, her hobbies were dumb, yet any criticsm back was taken as an insult. Everyday she changed just a little bit more, though he told her he didn't want anyone to change for him. Anyone would take constant criticism as a need to change, wouldn't you? So that's what she did, she changed the little things she knew bugged him, but it wasn't enough.
She was turned away, after a year of loving him, after a year of caring the way she didn't know she could. This perfect couple had ended in a matter of minutes, after having him tell her one night earlier that she never could and never would get rid of him. There had been what she had thought was love that night, but had obvously been disguised well enough to fool even her. He couldn't love her for who she was, that much was certain, nor could he love her for who she wasn't. No, it just wasn't meant to be, it never would be.
She was strong, though, and she bounced back. Love always finds a way to keep the strong that still believe in it going, and it found its way back into her heart soon enough. One can think that it disappears completely, that a broken heart can yield only hate, bit it's not true. She still loves him a little, and always will, not the same way she did, but the memories will never be gone. Love will continue to grow until she finds someone new to give it to, and when her heart is broken by that one, it will get stronger, until she finds the one person she was meant to spend forever with. She knows this now, and she couldn't thank him more for turning her away the way he did. It made her stronger for it.

Gives hope. I think it was good. Examples of what she changed would give it more depth.
