Multi-Cult Finale 2

1/30/043

During this semester of Multi-Cultural Issues we leered about many different issues. Three topics that I think I got the most knowledge and a better understanding of would be Affirmative Action, The Death Penalty, and last Peer Interviews. I do think that I learn the most out of this class with these three topics.   4

What knowledge did I get out of are class discussions about Affirmative Action? Well, when I 1st herd about it I had no clue what is was, I had a feeling that it had to do with give people jobs or something! Yet, when you explained it to us, and then told us why it will/or might affect us. What I learn was what an Affirmative Action is, to give changes to those who where discrimination the passed. Through this lessen I learn may different types of view points, like Orlando Patterson, who says that Affirmative Action needs more time. He also said “Do the avenges out weight the disadvantages? I think they do”. When I herd that I made me think, do they? I then after hearing that went on the computer and look at as much as I could about affirmative action, talking to anyone who had a view point. I found out that most people (my age) think the something I thought, before I did research into this topic, they think that Affirmative Action is going to not let them pick the college they what to go to. I also learn that people quick to judge with out doing any research into that topic. I learned a lot about Affirmative Action, from not knowing anything, to all most able to tell someone anything they what to know about it. I know during my time in class I didn’t talk or put anything into are class discussions, yet as I watching other people I talk, I obverted many different types of view points. I also was able to answer the question that Orlando Patterson asked. I do believe that the avenges out weight the dissidences! I think that Affirmative Action needs more time and that I dose work!5

I also got a better understanding to this topic, The Death Penalty. When I was in 10th grade I thought that the death penalty was good. I thought that the death penalty help us get rid of the “Bad Guys”. Yet, just like Affirmative Action, I went online and got articles about the death penalty. One area that I was really into was that, what costs more to get an inmate in life in prison with out parole or to kill him? As I research this I found out that, it costs a lot more to kill a person then to keep him jail. Most sates spend over 26 million on death penalty cases. I also research, how 1 out of 4 people that are killed by the death penalty are innocent. I was shocked when I heard someone say that 1 out of 4 isn’t a big number. I know we don’t live in a prefix world, yet before we kill someone we should no matter or what make sure; he’s guilty of his crime. I think the death penalty is wrong, not only because I am a democrat, I think that it is curl and unusually punishment, I also think that it is wrong to kill people. Yet, that won’t make someone change or even try to think about the death penalty. One thing I found out about this class was that I when you talk about a topic and I don’t know anything about it or what to have some information; I will go out and get some information. Like Affirmative Action I learn something about then when and tried to find as much info as I can about. Back to what I learn about the death penalty, I wasn’t in class for any of the decision part, yet I did on my own go out and try to get the best understanding of it from other people. Like my Mom, she thinks the death penalty is wrong, so dose my Dad. What I feel right as of know about the death penalty is that it is wrong, it costs too much, we kill people who where innocent and last I think its curl and unusual punishment.6

The last thing I really learn a lot about would be when we did the peer interviews. I wasn’t one to judge other people, yet I sometimes did us stereo typing. Like that some cheerleaders are out there and so-on. When we told us to make 10 question about someone we have no clue about I was kind of scared (because I had no clue what we where trying to do, I thought you where going to make us go out and find someone we don’t even know off the streets) later, when you told us that we where going to have to interview someone from are class I was, well, exited! Then when the day happen and you where calling out names I was nerves on who I was going to get, then you said Matt and Lauren. As I first went over there I was scared and nerves but after that one day I could wait to have her ask me some question. I think I learn a lot about Lauren, I also learned that stereotyping sometimes (every time) is not true. She was a cheerleader and she wasn’t this hyper, out there, so-on, type of person. I was fun to get to know someone over just only 10 questions. What this told me was, don’t judge other people before you meant them, or at lest ask them 10 question. I also learned that you can learn a lot about a person with just 10 questions.7

In conclusions, I think I learn a lot about myself. I know some people still think I am a quite a shy guy. Yet, I’m only like that in your class (mostly school) other times I am really talkative and not shy (Playing hockey, I yell at everyone). I have learn lot about my self this yr then any other years. With this class I think you have help out. You help (not that I was) but you help me not judge other people, to help out then people when they get bullied, and to jump to conclusion with out do some research about that topic. I would like to say that this class is a fun and interesting class. I learn a lot about the topic I have told you about. Thank you for a good semester!   8
