Flee the Painful Memories V

At first she was resentful. But she soon found she felt the same about him as she did Alexander. But he wasnt like Alexander. He didnt have a shoulder for when Victoria had three other miscarriages. He didnt make jokes by the water. He never built her a small miniature cabin. Even though she loved him it wasnt the same love as she had for Alexander. It never would be. Daniel and Missy got married. They had a daughter named Kendra. When Kendra was two years old she got very sick and died. After Kendra, Missy was uncapable of having anymore children. Another devestating thing in Missy's life. One day as Missy was buying food at the nearby marketplace she was surprised by a familiar voice.1

"Excuse me ma'am," That accent. "Would you like a pear? Or how about some carrots?" She turned and there he was. She went to give him a kiss but remembered Daniel and took a step back.2

"Alexander," She said in almost a whisper. "I-I thought you were dead." 3

"I was missing in unfimilar land. I didnt know what was going on. I thought the war was still going on. I was hurt badly also. But that was the past. Im here now Missy. Lets get married. I want to be with you forever." When he said this tears welled up in her eyes.4

"Oh Alexander, I cannot. I am married. I had a child. I---"5

"What?" He interrupted.6

"I'm so sorry Alexander. I thought you were dead. I waited for two years. I thought you were dead!" Tears ran down her face and she couldnt breathe. 7

"Missy, I've been looking for you all those years. I went to John, Victoria and Henry. I looked everywhere for you. Do you not remember this?" He took her in his arms and kissed her but she pushed him back and ran away. Two days later Daniel came home from work and talked about his day during dinner. 8

"Some fool hanged himself by the marketplace today."9

"Oh really? I wonder why. Do you know who?" Missy didnt even realize.10

"Some passerby. He had no family around here. But now the cart boys must burn their carrots and pears."11

"What?" Her mind was spinning.12

"The drunken fool stole carrots and pears from five cart boys and layed them around his body before killing himself. What's wrong sweetie?" Missy started crying and broke into a heavy sweat then ran from the table and locked herself in the bedroom. She couldnt believe Alexander would do that to himself. She couldnt believe he had died for her love. She couldnt believe how selfish and uncaring she was. She couldnt believe it at all. Alexander was her true love. He was her love at first sight. He had given up his life for her. She had done nothing in return. Missy wanted to die. But she couldnt do that to Daniel. He shouldnt have 13

to go through what she did. Instead she left. Again. She fled the painful memories. She put a letter on his bed and explained it all. That night when he was asleep she got on a boat and sailed away. Away from it all. 14
