Flee the Painful Memories II

After that Missy went to bathe and change into her gown to go out to the market. It was terribly hot. Missy hated having to wear the big gowns just to go out and purchase an apple, but it was uncommon for a woman to wear anything else. So she had to suffer. Victoria was walking beside her and spoke about their Mother and brother John that had gone off to live in another city with his family. Missy was only half listening. In her mind she dreamed of meeting the love of her life and having a huge family in the country, like her Mother. She was so caught up in her thoughts she didnt even notice that she walked right into a man pushing a cart. 1

"Oh I am terribly sorry." Missy said, almost turning red from embrassessment. The man she had bumped said nothing but then looked up into her eyes and got speechless. After a moment of silence he spoke. 2

"No it is okay." His eyes were sky blue and he spoke with an accent Missy couldnt get over. "Well not to push you two ladies but would you like to buy a pear? They are fresh and I will you give my best one for a very low price." His smile was breathtaking too! Missy bought a pear for her and Victoria. The three of them smiled and were on their way. Victoria just 3

wouldnt stop teasing Missy. Missy just wouldnt stop thinking about him. The next day Missy rode by carriage to her Mother's house just outside the market place. Every Sunday Missy would go to her Mother's house and eat dinner with her family. This Sunday must of been different because John and his family were there. Missy just loved to play with her nephews. They were only five years of age but they were adorable. Since they were twins many people in the family got them mixed up. Not Missy, she always knew when it was Robert spilling the milk or Richard tugging at her gown. 4

"Oh, drat. I need carrots for the stew. Would someone go down to the market and buy some?" Her Mother said from behind the big pot that practically covered her entire body. People say Missy and Victoria must of gotten their height from their father that Missy never met. He died from a horrid sickness just days after she was born. 5

"Mother why dont you let Missy do it? Im sure she would die to see the Cart Boy again." Victoria teased. Even though Missy loved her sister greatly she hated how much she teased. Especially in front of Mother. 6

"Missy what is Victoria talking about? Who is this cart boy?" Her Mother asked as if Missy was a child. Missy assured her Mother he was nobody. She quickly left the house and walked down to the marketplace with Robert and Richard. And as her sister said the Cart Boy was there. He must of remembered her because once he saw her he waved. Surprisingly he had carrots. 7

"Hello again." He said. Was it possible he got more charming since yesterday? Missy asked herself. Robert and Richard being children teased Missy just like her sister. 8

"Hi. Um...how much are your carrots?" Missy asked trying to ignore her annoying nephews comments. He gave her a price and started to wash the carrots off. Soon Missy realized she didnt even know his name. 9

"My name is Missy." She said. Was that disrespectful for a lady to do? She kicked herself again. Yet, he seemed to not mind.10

"Im Alexander. Here are your carrots." He said handing them to her. They spoke nothing else after that and Missy left back to her Mother's house. That night she slept with dreams of Alexander the Cart Boy. After that she hadnt seen him at the market place for weeks. Each time she went with hopes to get a glipse of him but never saw him. Victoria said she was acting like a foolish school girl. Missy started to believe it. She started thinking less and less of him. He was, in fact, just a cart boy. She did feel like a foolish school girl. She had let herself get caught up in the moment with thoughts of a cart boy. Looking back she would only laugh. One Sunday while she was at her Mother's house there was a terrible storm and when she returned to her home her cabin was completly destroyed. She then went to live with Victoria.Victoria was seeing a young doctor named Henry. Missy didnt really care for him that much but Victoria did. After a while Victoria seemed differnt. Early in the morning Missy would wake up to the sound of Victoria throwing up. She soon realized her older sister was pregnant. Since it was unallowed by her Mother for a pregnant woman to be unwed Victoria and Henry married. Missy was filled with joy for her sister, but couldnt help feeling an emptyness in her heart. One day as Missy was out shopping for gowns 11

she saw Alexander walking around. She didnt even reconize him at first. But after hearing his wonderful voice she knew it was him. He must of reconized her also, because he walked up to her. After not seeing her for months.12
