Everything I Ever Needed to Know, I Learned in 10th Grade English

A good book and a nap is always best. As soon as you get something finished, go over it; you might have missed something. Better ideas do not always come faster. Children should not be left unsupervised. Don't procrastinate on big things, it only makes it worse in the end. Everybody needs a little help, even the smartest in class. Everybody deserves a second chance. Every once in a while, you meet someone who completely changes your outlook on life. Friendliness is applauded, but not always reciprocated. Food keeps you awake. Grades matter. Help everybody, even if they don't ask for it. If you do something wrong, say you're sorry. Just because someone is different, doesn't mean that you don't have to be courteous. Keep your hands to yourself, this includes all other bodily appendages. Losing your things is a bad thing. More often than not, the adult knows what's best. Nobody is perfect. Outer appearances shouldn't matter, but they do. Pay attention, or you might miss something. People change. Question everything. Respect other's opinions, even during class discussions. Random comments may be funny, but soon they begin to offend. Saying you're sorry works in all sticky situations. Speak up, the world can't hear you. Time is always running out; get an early start. Unfairness is unjust. Violence isn't necessary. "Why?" should become your favorite phrase. "Yes," not "Yeah."1

Author notes

As part of my English exam, it was my responsibility to outline and detail what I learned that year.  Obviously the exam was for my 10th grade English class, but I loved the class dearly.  So I decided to do my own take of "Everything I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."  I had a lot of fun writing this, and I hope you have a lot of fun reading this.

I love this, its just so true. I must bookmark this. I love the way it started with something so innocent and then moved on to more complicated things. It really had a good feel to it Nice work.

I was told by a 10th grade history teacher to question everything. Even Fact, because fact has been proven to be false. Great Example The World is flat

Brah? Poetry? Haha.. This is a StoryWrite piece. With each Allpoetry account comes a StoryWrite account. Cool, eh? (So you can add stories and crap too, even on Allpo. When adding a poem, choose Story from the list of links at the top of the page.)

The only thing I learned in 10th grade english is how to haggle for snack cakes and Fanta. In other words, I learned nothing.

In any case, this is a cute poem. I always love poetry without rhyme and meter, it's a nice vacation out of what I'm used to.
