Words are nothing more than a particular set of symbols in a particular order, that someone, somewhere, decided have a particular meaning.1

Why get offended at a vibration on the air, seriously? Or the sight of particular symbols, in a particular order?2

If you substitute 'fuck' with 'frick' you still have the same intent, which is to show anger. It has nothing to do with either sex *or beating or berating, which fuck ACTUALLY originally means. Why do you think that the word has to do more with violence than sex? Beat the fuck out of someone, fuck them up, that shit got fucked up* or friction. In fact, Frick has nothing to do with friction, it is a substitute word for FUCK. The meaning has absolutely no connotation or context to what I'm saying, therefore one must assume it's in there as added emphasis, to show extreme frustration and loss of inhibition.3

So why get offended at it? Because someone you'll never meet, never know, never hear of, never learn of, decided that you should? In a hundred years, the word GLARK might mean something profoundly disgusting.4

Is either one worse? Not really. One could say that by saying 'fuck' I have added emphasis to my statement, but then again, perhaps I said 'fucking' calmly, and 'frigging' with much more force?12

What is the difference?13

I still have called you an idiot. That is what you should be offended at, is the intent of the word, not the meaning of the adjective I added in there to show my frustration.15

Right, the second one, in which I have clearly insulted you, rather than take the time out of your day, to allow a four letter word, who's origins mean to 'berate' offend you, because someone, somewhere, decided to use it as a code word for 'sex.' *What's so offensive about sex, anyway?*19

Look at this way.20

One man might drop a pie, and say 'Shit.' Another man might drop a pie and say 'Oh darn.'21

Neither statement has to do with fecal matter or knitting.22

Both mean "Fuck, I dropped the pie."23

And anyone with moderate intelligence knows that. It is not the meaning of the word that should offend, but the intent. And if a so called 'offensive word' is used in a non offensive manner or intent, then absolutely no one should be bothered by it.24

Here's another example. "Shit." Why is that word offensive to so many people? It's poop. Big deal. And I guess while Poop may gross some people out, like a period might gross out some others, I stand astounded that many people who are offended by the word "Shit," come right out and say "Crap!" WHAT THE FUCK, seriously? Different words for the EXACT same object/subject, yet only one is offensive and nasty? I guess my most simplistic, yet often unspoken response to this behavior is this: "You're fuckin' retarded."25

Here is what this argument boils down to:26

Language is a beautiful thing, which can be used in a variety of ways. And not a single word should be 'offensive,' though some of them may be used in an offensive way. That's fine. If someone calls you a "Fucking retarded asshat with an Oedipus Rex complex;" by all means, be outraged. 27

But really, I could make up code words for every cuss word I know. I still have the same meaning and intent, but you won't be offended... And I have to wonder... Why not? It means the same. I have the same definition, the same intent. If I call you a glarking schnicklet who needs to pull your glarking head out of your glarking mother glarking ass, I've still called you a fucking shithead who needs to pull your fucking head out of your fucking mother fucking ass. 28

So tell me, why are you offended at a set of symbols, in a particular order, because someone, somewhere, who doesn't really matter, decided that it was a code word for something taboo? Have you ever even stopped to think about it?29
