"Dear Santa Clause,1

I would like a dolly for Christmas, more than anything else in the whole wide world! 2

Lots of Love3

Suzie." Announced the young girl in front of her class.4

"Well done Suzie! That was a great letter to Santa, I'm very impressed with all of these, children! Lucy, you're next!" Congratulated the teacher and speaking to the class also. The nursery was small but loved by all the kids and those who worked there. It was almost Christmas and all the children had written a letter to Santa Clause, or tried as they were pre-school kids. "You ready to read out loud, Big voice now Lucy!" Whispered Mrs. Maple. 5

"Dear Santa Clause,6

All I want for Christmas is for my mummy to come back, I miss her very much and even though daddy says she's gone to heaven I would love to see her again, just one last time. I have forgotten what she looks like, and I wish to remember again Santa. So please, if you're so magical you would do this for me.7

Love From Lucy8

P.s. If I wish on a wishing star, will it be a better chance?" The whole class sat in silence, Mrs. Maple sat their almost heart-broken.9

"Oh Lucy. I know that Santa is ma-... Well... Why don't you talk to your daddy about it?" She stuttered, unknowing what to say. She didn't want to break this little girls heart. She didn't want to ruin her hopes and dreams. She wanted for this girl to grow into a life with happiness, that's why she became a teacher.10

Lucy sat down. She was imagining seeing her mother again, and then picturing her fading away again. Lucy missed her mother, and everyone knew it. Though no one spoke of it.11

Everyone wanted lots of toys for Christmas, yet Lucy wanted something that almost nobody would ask for, a chance to see a loved one again.12

As the other kids rose asking for bikes, toy tractors, dolls and other things Lucy daydreamed about what her mother looked like and what she would be like...13

*** CHRISTMAS DAY ***14

Lucy awoke to her alarm clock at 8:00am. She wanted to make sure that Santa would have been by waking up at a reasonable time.15

"Mum!" She whispered. She leaped out of bed almost collapsing onto the carpeted floor. She ran down the stairs imagining her mother under the tree with opened arms waiting to hug her. She burst into the living room, slamming the door hard against the wall, she turned to the tree and found...16

No mother, just presents. Lucy flopped onto the floor as started to wonder why Santa had not brought what she wanted. There was nothing more that she could have possibly wanted so what if he was magical? Lucy didn't care any more. She didn't want to believe in something so horrible and careless. 17

On the side was a present addressed to Lucy, it said it was urgent and had to be opened immediately, no matter what. Reluctantly Lucy reached out and grabbed the present ripping the wrapping off slowly and carefully. Under the wrapping was a wonderfully beautiful picture frame with of course a picture inside. The picture was of a woman carrying a child in her arm and with Lucy's father by her side. They were all smiling even the baby child in her arms. Along with the picture came a card with a Christmas tree on the front, Lucy opened it with wonder. Inside was written:18

'Dear Lucy,19

I'm sorry I couldn't bring back your mother, and I'm sorry I let you down. But maybe you could forgive me as you wanted to know what she looked like, and here is a photo of her. I hope you enjoy it and maybe can forgive.20

Have a great Christmas21

Santa Clause.'22

Lucy smiled and held up the photo, she then brought it close to her chest and hugged it tightly.23

This was the best Christmas ever.
