Episode VI - Until the Fat Lady Sings

Into the Storm

Ash opened his eyes and tried to figure out where he was. Forcing himself into a sitting position, he realized that he was sitting in the recreation room of the Girls’ dormitory. He jumped as a voice suddenly spoke, “Well, good-morning Ash.”

Ash turned and looked at Aubri Charnigo, who was sitting on one of the couches. “Storm over?” Inquired Ash.

Aubri nodded, “Yeah, it is.” Ash nodded and looked around the room. Everything appeared to be alright, the windows were intact – amazingly – and nothing appeared to be broken. “Is everyone alright?”

Aubri looked over at the window, Ash looked. Haley Kragness looked at him, she was biting her lip. “Well, not exactly.” She said.

Ash sighed, “What now?”

Haley looked at Aubri, Aubri spoke. “Ash,” she said, “Well… Jake is out cold, he was fine, but he fainted and is still out, Jen burned her hands, and Caroline…” she broke off.

“What?” demanded Ash, jumping to his feet.

“Oh Aubri, it’s not that bad, don’t fret Ash, she went outside during the storm and didn’t come back in.” said Haley quickly.

Ash jumped to his feet and ran out into the hallway, passing Haley Webb in the hall. He ran passed Jen by the security door and out onto the balcony at the top of the steps. There he stopped and looked out into the school grounds.

Behind him, the door opened, and Kelly Donkin ran out and into him. “She’s fine, I’m sure.” She said. Ash tried to smile, and looked out into the grounds. There were tiles from roofs, and branches from trees everywhere.

Kelly was walking close behind him. “What actually happened?” he asked her.

“We were running, and I tripped, and she ran out into the storm… there was a scream, but we couldn’t see her.” She said.

Ash nodded and walked along. “It’d be much easier to think if I didn’t have this headache.” He said chuckling.

“Oh, yeah, that. Corey hit you with a crowbar, I thought you were going to… yeah, you know.”

Ash laughed, “Well, I’m not dead, but I’m sure death would be better than this headache.” They walked passed the large oak tree, when a yell met their ears. “Oye! Feo!” it said. Ash swung around and looked up to into the tree.

“Hola Bonita.” Said Ash laughing, “What are you doing up there?

“Oh my god! It was so much fun, the wind picked me up, and I hit the tree… it hurt, but it was fun!” she said smiling.

Ash smiled back, “Well Sis, how do you plan to get out of the tree?”

Kelly laughed, “You’re the smart one!” said Caroline. Kelly started to laugh more and fell to her knees. Immediately she stood up and cried in pain.

Ash walked over to her and looked at her knees, “Glass” he said.

Kelly sighed, “Well, have fun with this, Ash.” She said and sat down on a patch of clear grass to watch.

Ash cracked his knuckles, and walked towards the tree. “Well, this’ll be interesting.” He said. The tree was old, but the nearest branch was about a foot above his head.

He jumped and wrapped his arms around the branch, and pulled himself up. the branch creaked, but held his weight. "You know, this will be really interesting to explain to mum and dad." he said.

Caroline laughed as Ash got ready to jump up to the next branch. "Come on Ash, peterson climbed up here." she said mockingly. As Ash jumped up to the next branch, the one he was on gave way. Ash hung from his branch and looked down.

"Well..." he said, looking at the hard ground 10 feet below him, "it's only now that I realize how tall this tree actually is." Above him Caroline laughed again.

Ash swung up to sit on the branch, "Kelly!" he yelled down, "go and get someone please, we can't jump the 10 feet."

Below him, Kelly stood up. "Haha! Okay Ash." She turned and started to walk towards the boys dorms, her back was soaked from sitting in the grass. Ash looked at Caroline, suprised to see that she was still another five feet highter.

"Well, I guess we're stuck together." he said.

Into the Trap

Kelly ran along the path towards the boys’ dorms. She slipped in puddles, and jumped over branches. Blood trickled down her legs, but she finally reached the steps. She ran up, and threw herself through the doors. She ran into the main hall, but immediately she realized something was wrong.

She looked directly at two police officers, and one of the govorners, Dr. Josephine McFadderingham. Two large, tobacco smelling hands were placed on Kelly’s shoulders. “You see,” said a deep voice, “this is exactly what I mean. A young girl comes running into the Boys’ Dormitories.” The two police officers nodded in agreement.

Kelly looked up at Dr. McFadderingham, not believing what she was now hearing. “But Mr. Hume…” started McFadderingham.

“Colonel Hume.” Interrupted Missy’s father.

“Um, yes,” continued McFadderingham, “I’m sure she has a righteous meaning for coming here, right… Kelly is it?”

Kelly started, surprised at being addressed directly, “Um, yes ma’am.” Said Kelly.

Hume laughed, as did one of the police officers. The other officer knelt down in front of Kelly and smiled, “Right then, what is this righteous reason for barging into the boy’s area?”

“There are two kids, stuck in a tree, sir. I came to get help.” Immediately the officers and Hume started to laugh. The hands on Kelly’s shoulders pulled her towards the door. “Okay gentlemen, I believe we should take this one to the main offices?” Said Hume importantly.

The officers nodded, “Of course. The sooner we can get this over with, the better.” Kelly struggled, but the hands got tighter. “Come, you.” Said the man.

“Ooh, be careful with her, please!” cried McFadderingham. The lot of them stepped out of the doors and into the courtyard.

The security door flung open and 3 girls jumped out and into the hall, quickly followed by Tommy, Donald, and Willy. The three girls ran out into the courtyard, but Willy tripped and hit his chin on the door.

“D**n.” he cried. Tommy stopped and laughed at Willy while Donald struggled to help him up. “The h**l? get off of me dweeb.” Willy pushed Donald off, and stood up. Blood dripped from his chin and onto his uniform.

“Ya know, Tara better be able to get blood stains out of these.” He said.

Tommy laughed, and Donald rubbed his elbow where he had hit the wall, “yeah, um, very funny Willy.”

Donald then turned to look at Tommy, “So, what now?”

Willy and Tommy turned and looked at Donald, “What the h**l were you doing for the past 5 minutes? Staring up Jen’s skirt?” said Tommy. Donald blushed and looked down. “Oh you sick b******d!”

Tommy ran out the door, and Willy followed. Donald watched, then walked slowly back into the security room. “Dweeb this, a*****e.” he muttered.

Willy and Tommy ran down the path towards the main building.

In the Tree

Caroline looked at Ash, “What is taking her so long?” Ash looked out at the boy’s dormitories and sighed. “What is it, Ash?” She turned to look, but the branch made a creaking noise, and she stopped.

“Caroline,” he said, “Kelly isn’t coming.”

“Why?”

“Because Missy’s dad has her.” Ash watched as two police officers, Dr. Fadderingham, Colonel Hume, and Kelly marched out of the boy’s dorms. Caroline watched as the group walked by her view, moving towards the Main Building.

“… and you actually thought, that claiming that students were in the tree would be an excuse?” said Hume, “Silly girl. Fadderingham, can you see any children in the tree?”

Fadderingham looked up, and her eyes went immediately to Ash. Her eyes got big, but Ash put a finger on his lips and shook his head.”

“Um, no, Mr. Hume, nothing, no students.”

The group kept walking towards the Main Building. As soon as they were out of earshot, Ash laughed. “What does that bloke think he is doing?”

Caroline shook her head, and blushed.

“What?” Asked Ash, but he didn’t need to wait long.

“Hey! What are you doing up there?” called Tommy. Ash looked down and smiled. “I thought climbing this tree was against school policy, you’re one lucky f**k that that Hume person didn’t catch you.”

“So Tommy, any idea how we’re supposed to get out of this tree? I don’t feel like breaking my neck” As soon as he said that, the branch made a cracking noise, and a large crack appeared. “Hey Tommy! My branch has cleavage.”

Willy started to laugh, and Caroline made a weird gurgling noise. “Oh shut up Caroline, just because you don’t have…” started Tommy, but Ash yelled at him.

“Leave my sister alone you sick b*****d!”

“Yeah, right, sorry Ash.” Said Tommy, he turned to Willy. “Where’s Donald with the ladder?”

“Wait,” called Ash from the tree, “You told Donald to get the ladder? He’s, what, 4 feet tall!”

Tommy looked up at Ash, “He’s getting help from Josh Lamo and
