He Lives

The young man sensed something behind him as he came to a stop on the dusty, old road. He knew it was dangerous to be out this late at night, but he had to get to the next town. Bandits were known to live in these parts.1

Looking around at his surroundings, which was mostly the towering trees around him, he saw nothing but darkness, and their shadows within. A pair of two extraordinary blue eyes shown through the darkness, it was not veiled by the night. He thought maybe it was nothing but his eyes playing tricks on him, he was tired after all, but he could not help but be curious as to what the source of those two eyes belonged to. Trying not to step on the fallen leaves that littered the ground, he stepped from off the road and into the woods. He felt something grab him roughly, and he cursed under his breath for being such an 'imbecile' .2

Cold fingers traced his face and neck. He shuddered and tried to struggle, but he was in shock, and it did him no good. The next thing he knew, the being's mouth was to his neck. He screamed, but no one heard. He was miles from civilization. Feeling himself being completely drained of his unfortunate life, he tried to crawl away, but the being held him close. As he closed his eyes, for what he thought was the last time, he felt a wrist being pressed harshly against his lips. He felt warm blood drip into his mouth, and finally giving into the pressure of this beast hovering over him, he drank. He drank till he thought he could no longer drink. He finally stopped, his heart fluttering madly. The being stood up, and looked down at his fledgling.3

"And so...he lives," The Maker whispered as he disappeared into the night.4
