At the age of ten, during summer holidays, Muma and I were at my grandparents house. Muma was chronically ill, she was almost bed ridden. As a child I didn’t understand the seriousness of her illness. I overheard Grandparents whispering about ineffectiveness of the medicines she was taking for the cure. It seemed a miracle through prayers was the last resort. As a daily routine my first chore in the morning was a trip to the corner shop to buy candy with the pocket money Muma would give me. 1
This particular morning wasn’t an exception. Griping the coin tightly in my fist, I dashed out of the house towards the shop. I ran hurriedly as if all the candies would sell if I don’t get there soon. 2
On the way I was distracted by the luring voice of a beggar. He was chanting slogans in a subdued tone, “Whoever gives me food or money, Thou will fulfill their wishes.” I slowed down and kept on observing him. He was an old and frail looking. He held a bowl in one hand and a stick in the other. Train of thoughts went through my mind; it's to be said that if the needs of a beggar are fulfilled, his/her blessings can come true. I went closer to the beggar and gently placed the coin in his empty bowl. I briefly explained him my mum's ordeal and requested him to wish her a fast recovery. The beggar was pleased that he was rewarded with a coin, he chanted many blessings that his happy conscious could bestow, “Son, may God grant your mum good health and fast recovery, God bless you and so on… .”3
That day there was no candy but the feeling that my mum will get better was much sweeter.

Very touchy story of urs. IT must have been a terifying experience for u.
I hope it never happens to anyone in future.
If we help a beggar who are gunuin by nature {there are frauds also} by our heart, then they also wish us & our family good wishes for future as rightly pointed out by u.
Take care!!!!
Best of luck to u & ur family!!!

There is so much beauty in this write , despite the sadness of your mum eventually passing on I assume . But to have helped the beggar and hence in return recieved some hope , regardless of how futile...it was enough that maybe for one day the world looked a little brighter gor everyone in this story . Great write. May I bring your attention to one sentence where there seem to be a couple of errors or typos"on the way i was distracted by luring voice , you might want to put a "the" before luring voice...and then it would be " he was chanting slogans in a subdued voice " you just forgot the d in subdued ,

mina, this story was so moving...Faith is all we need to carry on and to get comfort in life. Without, dispair would take over and cover our hearts and minds with sad thoughts.
This was a very nice way to remmeber your mother and to share some of your moments with us.
Be well, hugs,
Mari
