Immortal Chapter 4

Selene sat curled up in a tight ball behind the locked door. Once she heard her husband’s footsteps disappear she stood and wiped the blood from her mouth. Slowly she looked around the room then down at the broken vase.  She growled to herself and picked up a small frame from the stand beside her. It contained a small Portia t of their wedding. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the faces then threw it hard against the far wall. Rage took over where fear had been. Anything that was able to break smashed against the wall landing in the small pile that had begun to form. She paused long enough to watch as her husband left the house completely. She stood sill drawing a few deep breaths before going over to the door; pulling a hair pin from her hair she picked the lock and left the room.

She grumbled to herself heatedly saying things a proper lady never would. She made her way to the kitchen getting down various bottles of herbs along with a mortar and pestle. “That greedy little bastard has no idea who he married” she said to herself as she put herbs into the bottom of the small clay bowl and began to grind them into a fine powder. Clockwise she went slowly at first gathering her thoughts before speaking softly “Hecate, bind Kevin make him pay for the pain he has caused. Release your hounds to banish him away.” She repeated this 6 times out loud then silently to herself as the herbs became a very fine. She stopped and found a small bottle. Pouring the powder into it then shook the powder with a little wine until it disappeared and slipped it into the cupboard.

Kevin had stormed out of the house in a drunken blur his thoughts a dulled jumble. “Where is her fortune? The old man has been dead almost six months and we’ve gotten nothing. She was suppose to be my ticket to easy street” he thought irritably as he stopped at the edge of his estate. “We’ve been wed almost a year and she’s given me no sons either.” a frustrated sigh escaped his lips as he walked along the edge of his property and came to a small cottage. “No matter” he said softly as he knocked on the door. It opened to reveal a tall auburn haired woman with bright green eyes. She gave him a very coy smile and stepped aside to let him in.

Hours had passed since Kevin had left the main house and been with his mistress. The sun was now very low in the sky and Selene would be expecting him for dinner. Reluctantly, he rose and moved softly from the bed as to not wake his lady. He paused as he put on his clothes and just watch her sleeping. ’God she’s beautiful and a passion in bed” he smiled to himself. After dressing, he kneeled down next to her and placed a light kiss on her forehead then slipped out.

Selene greeted her husband coolly with a simple kiss on the cheek. Kevin apologized same as always. Selene knew where he had been and made no mention of it as they set down to dinner. Nelly had made her master’s favorites. Cooked greens with ham, roasted potatoes, lemon chicken, squash soup, and a pound cake with berries and cream. “A fitting last meal” Selene thought silently as she ate. She was saving the concoction for dessert. She had given Nelly instruction to pour the bottle into a small pot and reduce it down with a little sugar until it was thick and to put it over Kevin’s cake. The meal went along smoothly after all the dishes had been cleared Selene slowly stood and bid Kevin a restful sleep then retired to her room.

Kevin simply nodded letting her go, he stayed at the table a while longer just thinking. He had no reason to treat Selene the way he did but he was angry at the fact his plan was falling apart. He cared for Selene but his heart was with his mistress fully. They both knew that, but ending the marriage was out of the question for both. Neither would have any place to go. Kevin rose from the table and began up the stairs to his private rooms when he started to feel light headed. Pushing it down he continued to his room. He paused leaning on the doorframe a single thought entering his mind as he stumbled to the bed. ‘That bitch’ Then his world became dark.

Selene paced in her room a small bag packed with a few simple dresses, a few belongings of her mother and father’s, and a small purse of coins she’d managed to keep from Kevin. The house had been silent for a while now. “The potion should have knocked him out by now” she muttered as she slowly opened the door and peaked out. The house was silent. She cautiously made her way to Kevin’s room and listened pressing her ear against the door. Nothing. Making her way back to the landing for the staircase she gave one last look around at the house that had caused her so much pain then left.

    Excellent

This one got off to a bang. He won't be hitting her again. I like the theme of her being a witch, she can do anything she wishes with him and his woman

Poor Selene Good on her for picking the lock though.

    OMG is she a witch?

Grr, I hate Kevin. It's so typical that he would have married her for her money and her uterus. And he's cheating on her???? I'll kill him! (sorry; I'm commenting while I'm reading )

So Selene at least didn't kill Kevin. But couldn't she have run away anyway without having to poison him? I suppose you had to establish the fact that she was a witch. And now I suppose he'll wake up, be angry and pursue her. Meanwhile I'm sure James/Gabriel will have some ideas of his own.

So none of your characters are faultlessly good people.

Again, a few issues with spelling and grammar, but you probably already know.

YAY!!! lol. This chapter is very nice. But I think it might be a bit confusing to shift from Selene's point of view to Kevin's. And yet, it kinda works. Very good job. I liked it.
