pter Two: 1
“I’ve got to get it back, my Caller is in the pocket,” Rachel turned frantic and she began to breath fast. 2
“Rachel, calm down,” David rolled his eyes warily, reaching into his pants pocket. “See, these genies aren’t all bad, they have pockets.” 3
“They are called ‘jeans’, David.” Rachel corrected, pressing her ear to the door again. The two men were wondering who’s jacket it must be. “Hurry up on whatever-”4
“Here.” David handed Rachel a small, pen-sized silver tube. “Just press the button on the side and turn the bottom to adjust the distance you want it to go.” 5
“Wait, I don’t even know what the hell it is, David.” Rachel fumed. 6
“It’s a memory eraser. They just got in from some planet three galaxies over or something. My dad wouldn’t shut up about it.” David rambled. “He gave me one for some reason, but he told me to only use it in emergencies.” He looked up from the small pen to Rachel, thinking for a moment. “I think this is an emergency.” 7
Rachel was silent for a moment, staring down at the pen. “How far away is it set?” She asked. 8
David took the pen and flipped it over in his hand, turning the bottom carefully. “It should be plenty long enough, Rach’.” He gave it back to her. 9
“I didn’t know you knew so much about this kind of stuff.” Rachel whispered. 10
“It’s cause you’re too worried about other things.” David smiled, taking a seat on a box. 11
“Well, you could of told me, you know.” She scolded, pressing her ear once more to the door. 12
“I didn’t want to disturb you.” David said quietly. 13
“Well, that’s not our biggest worry right now.” Rachel began. “How the hell am I going to do this? I’ve never used anything like this before. Wait, how do you even know if it really erases memories? What if your dad just told you that? You dad would do that, you know. What happens if I don’t get them and they kill me and you instead? Oh my god, I could never live with myself if they killed yo-” 14
“Rachel!” David put his hand over her mouth. “You’ll be fine, don’t worry, it’s not that hard.” He stared at her for a good minute, letting her cool down. “Are you chilled yet?” She nodded slowly and David let his hand drop to his side. 15
“Hold on,” Rachel said suddenly. “Why am I doing this, when you are talking about how easy it is? Why don’t you do it?” She asked, thrusting the pen towards him. 16
“Hey, it’s not my fault you left your coat out there. This is all you.” He pushed her hand away. “Besides, I need to get us out of here.” 17
“And we can get out of here faster if you did it.” She pushed the pen back towards him. 18
“Rachel, please.” David said, pushing her hand back again. “Just do it.” 19
Rachel sighed, “Fine.” She turned on her heel angrily and put her hand on the old fashioned handle. She began to turn it slowly, but it wouldn’t budge. “Oh no! David, they’ve locked us in!” 20
“No, we locked it, remember?” David rolled his eyes and pressed a purple button beside the door handle. “There, now try.” 21
Rachel stuck her tongue out at David before turning the handle slowly again. She pressed her ear to the door to hear the two talking about who to report the coat to. She heard the door handle click and she turned back to look at David for reassurance, but all that lay behind her was a dark closet. “Oh god,” She whispered, opening the door slowly, just a crack so she could get the pen through the crack in the door. 22
She slide the pen between the wall and the door, focusing on the two carefully. One man was abnormally taller than the other. He was wearing a white lab coat with his hair cut off in an old fashioned buzz shave. The other’s hair was long and tied back into a pony tail, like most guys his age would have their hair. She turned her attention away for the two and onto the pen. She put her pointing finger on the small button David had instructed her to. She closed one eye and very carefully pointed it at one. Rachel took a deep breath and pressed down.23
Instantaneity, a bright purple light zoomed across the room and hit the tall man in the back of the head. His legs seemed to give out and he fell to the floor. She moved the light to the other mans head and he did the same. She took her finger off the button and quickly put the pen in her coat pocket. She tore the door open and raced out to her coat. Rachel pulled the coat on quickly, and tucked the tape from earlier into her coat pocket along with her Caller. She quickly returned to the dark closet.24
She tripped forward over boxes and shelves. “David, where are you?” All at once, her foot caught on the edge of a box and she began to fall forwards. She reached out for something, and she caught a hand. The hand held hers tightly, letting her gather her balance. It began to pull her upwards, to the top of the tallest shelves. 25
Rachel scrambled to keep from falling, but the hand never let go. She finally reached the top and the hand pulled her over carefully. It was only then that Rachel realized she didn’t have a clue who this hand belonged to. She back to pull her hand away, tugging to regain control. When the hand didn’t stop, she began to kick and thrash about. 26
“Ow, Rachel, stop!” A girl’s voice whispered and another hand grabbed at her. “Stop!” She screamed, pinning Rachel down and slapping her across the face. 27
“Ow.” She moaned. 28
“Idiot,” The girl rolled her eyes and stared down at Rachel. “I don’t have a clue how you two managed to get into this big mess, but, once again, Hayden comes to the rescue.” 29
“Hayden?” Rachel began to laugh. “How the hell did you get up here?”30
“David called when you didn’t show up on time and I was actually able to sneak past my landlord.” Hayden bragged. “Anyways, that’s not important right now, Rachel. We’ve got to get out of here before those two wake up.” Hayden began to crawl down the shelve, pushing boxes out of the way. 31
“Wait, where is David?” Rachel asked. 32
Hayden didn’t answer, she stopped and got up on her knees and pushed the ceiling upwards in a few different places before a loud crack was heard. She pulled the ceiling completely out and tossed it over her shoulder. She looked over her shoulder at Rachel and shrugged. “Desperate times call for desperate measures, love.” She laughed and climbed through the hole carefully. 33
Rachel stared up at Hayden for a moment, then back at the closet door. She sighed and shook her head. “What the hell is wrong with me?” She asked herself, following Hayden into the hole. 34
