It had gotten much colder. It was a blizzard outside, nothing but biting gales and snow falling down in a thick sheet. This is how it was a lot of the time now, this cold anyway. And they all thought it was global warming. Ha! Look now, scientists! Next ice age is more like it. It was always getting worse now, though; there was no season but winter, and the air was getting thin. All the buildings had to have a covered airwalk running between them, to keep people out of the vicious weather. Some smaller businesses didn't have an airwalk, and only maybe two entrances. One would be an employee only entrance, and that through a next-door building. The other would lead out into the frigid, frozen world. Most of these had gone out of business, for lack of accessibility. All but one. A little cafe with reportedly the best cup of coffee ever made in all the history of man. Better even than Starbucks, or so they say. I never have been there.
One day, however, I witnessed a solitary woman all bundled up in gloves, hat, scarf, full-length coat, the whole bit. She was walking throught that continuous blasting storm! I hadn't the foggiest where she was headed, so I followed her best I could within the airwalks. At first you couldn't tell, but soon it was apparent she was shivering. She would freeze to death before she ever got near where ever she was going! That's what I thought, anyway. Turning around this corner, and down this next street, she continued bustling along her way, moving as fast as the wind would let her. She had a bag with her, an old beat up messenger bag, probably containing extra layers of clothing for when it got colder as the day wore on. I followed her for a good half hour, I'd say, until finally, shaking like a leaf, she walked to a building, in fact a door to a building, and went in. It was that damned cafe, with reportedly the best cup of coffee. I couldn't believe it!
What I really couldn't believe was that the next day, around the same time, I saw the same woman all bundled up, and with her bag, braving the environment again, headed off to that damnedable cafe. She would risk her life, and plow on through that thick haze of frozen rain, day after day, all for a good cup of coffee!
