Happy Birthday! 1:45AM—

HI DAD

ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY TODAY….

AND YOU KNOW .. IT WAS THE STRANGEST THING–

I JUST MOVED INTO A NEW APARTMENT THIS WEEK…

AND I WAS SITTING DOWN TRYING TO FIGURE HOW TO MAKE ROOM FOR EVERYTHING..AND ALL OF A SUDDEN..THE APARTMENT ACROSS FROM ME TURNED ON SOME MUSIC..PRETTY LOUD TO..THEY ARE MOVING OUT I GUESS. BUT THE ODDEST THING WAS THE SONG THAT THEY LISTENED TO, WITH OUT CHANGING IT OR TURNING IT OFF. SO I BELIEVED IT WASN’T A MISTAKE. THEY WANTED TO HEAR THAT SONG.

YOU WOULD NEVER GUESS WHAT SONG IT WAS, CONSIDERING THAT THEY WERE A YOUNG SPANISH COUPLE….!

THE SONG HAPPENED TO BE YOUR FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME, DAD.

REMEMBER, THE ONE YOU WOULD SING AND CRY TO, TO MOM EVERY TIME YOU WOULD SEE HER..

‘’For the good times’’…..

AND I THOUGHT…WOW! OF ALL DAYS AND AND ALL SONGS…IT WOULD BE YOURS AND ON YOUR BIRTHDAY.

BY THE WAY

THIS IS YOUR DAUGHTER, KIMBERLY!

…I’LL ALWAYS BE YOUR DAUGHTER.

I NEVER KNEW YOU AS A FATHER.

I WAS YOUR LITTLE GIRL

YOU LEFT ME ALONE IN THIS WORLD

THEN I GREW AND HAD ONE OF MY OWN

[HAD]

IF IT BEEN UP TO YOU, YOU’D NEVER OF KNOWN

IN ME YOU LIVE ON

IN YOU, WE ARE ALL GONE

I SIGN THE NAME YOU SIGNED

YOU, MY FATHER, MY NAME DENIED

I, EVEN THEN, STOOD IN MY PLACE

YOU, DIDN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE MY FACE

I, STILL , HELD THE HAND OF MY FATHER

YOU STILL, TOOK WITH YOU THE LOVE OF YOUR DAUGHTER

Please tell me what you think

I loved the poem part, it was very touching. I liked how you left me wondering about Kimberly and the rest of her story.

    Excellent

While I can only hope this isn't your bio, this is a very touching write. It has a profound depth of feeling. Maybe because I'm a father (and love being one) that I know how that love gets reflected back. Best of all the daughter has not let the father stop her from sharing her love.
If you could explain [Had}, I would appreciate it. I fear the worst, hope for the best.
    Suggest "pretty loud too"
This is a masterpiece of emotional maturity. Thanks for a great read.

    Despair and Forgiveness

A wonderful testament to despair and forgiveness. I enjoyed the poem. The irony in the fact that the character's father will never know that he has a devoted daughter is wonderful. Gives the poem heart. Enjoyed reading it.
