The History of Athena’s Chronicles

In 2103 the first extraterrestrial colony was founded, scientists and engineers successfully managed to build a self sustaining building on the surface of Mars. This rapidly expanded into a much larger structure with many residential, commercial and industrial buildings.1

Spurred on by their example, Dr Jespere Dearnn led a team of scientists on an expedition to Europa where the second colony was established. Their mission was to create labs for high-tech research without the restrictions of the countries on the earth, allowing scientists to make the decisions relating to each other’s studies. The colony flourished, with some of the greatest minds working together it quickly became the centre of cutting edge technology and science. Many labs and companies invested heavily.2

Among these labs was the Centre of Bioengineering, previously restricted due to Earth’s laws it thrived with many exciting breakthroughs in the field. Many couples decided pay to have genetically enhanced children. Within seventy years of the colony being founded 99% of the births each year had been genetically enhanced in some way and by 2250 practically every resident of the colony had at least some genetically engineered physiology.3

In 2158 Jespere Dearnn died aged 81, the council voted unanimously to change the colony’s name to Dearnn Colony in his honour. Residents of the colony began to be known as the Dearnns.4

Over the next few decades the colony continued to thrive and trade it’s new technologies with the rest of the human race. The residents of Dearnn Colony helped with the foundations of the Venus, Ganymede and Io colonies. In addition they were crucial in the construction of many space stations throughout the solar system.5

By 2200 the colony also had a small fleet of ships and its own small military to defend against the increasing thread of piracy.
To counter the same threat Earth led the way in forming a new wing of its military called the Combined Space Agency. It was charged with keeping law and order throughout the solar system. Both organisations worked closely with each other sharing manpower, equipment and intelligence.6

Life throughout the solar system was good, there were high levels of trade and tourism throughout the colonies and the economy was booming. However in 2362 this golden age of space travel came to an end.
