Throughout a vast and untamed land,
A battle was fought with endless death.
Of different species the opponents were,
But both alike in ways unknown.
Upon a night with choking depth,
Two children born at the ends of the land.
Both disciples of night with their lust for blood,
Forbidden was their ancestry to be meshed as one.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
Seventeen years of war commenced,
And each child set out to join the insanity.
Sword on their hip and courage in their heart,
Minds filled with uncertain lies of the other.
As warriors they fought each others race,
Staining their blades with scarlet blood.
The countless deaths amounted ‘till,
Only they were left in a field of decay.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
He bared his fangs in a loath full grin,
She raised her head with a menacing howl.
Lifting their arms holding a weapon of choice,
They charged at each other screaming a cry of war.
Mercilessly their swords hit sending showers of sparks,
Until blade tips resided on the others neck.
Hesitation kept the killing at bay,
As the opponents looked into the eyes of the other.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
At that moment the ancient feud was shattered,
By only a look into a blood-enemy’s eyes.
Slowly they dropped their weapons to the blood stained ground,
And stood only a few inches apart.
She intertwined her hand in his,
An act denied by the covenant she was sworn.
He led her away from the field filled with carnage,
Making the two traitors to their families.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
Months passed as they hid from the one once thought as friends,
Concealing their love to all but themselves.
Rumors of the two missing soldiers flew across the land
As the intensity of war increased in rage.
A survivor of the battle where the tow had fought,
Told each army of their fighters deception.
They then laid down their weapons and ceased the fighting,
To seek out and kill the traitorous two.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
On a dark summer night with the stars shining true,
A messenger brought warnings to the two in hiding.
Told they were of the hunt growing closer,
And the escape the needed to live.
They stole away as his own race drew near,
Opening the narrow gap between life and death.
But as a red dawn broke the dark sky,
Their chances of survival vanished with the night.
Daughter of wolf, son of bat.
Surrounded by his kin murders of her own,
Was what they became in the height of the midday sun .
All drew their blades which glinted in the light,
Securing the fate of the ones who betrayed.
One soldier pulled her close evading her resistance,
And held a cold silver dagger to her vulnerable neck.
The others restrained him from destroying them all,
As he watched a line of blood disappear into her dress.
In horror he watched as the soldier slit her throat in a fluid motion,
Ending the life of the one he had held near.
She fell to the ground spilling her blood,
As he screamed her name in agony and pain.
“Sonya.”
The soldiers released him as he fell to the ground weeping,
Pulling her body close he removed a silver necklace.
One of the men tore him away from his lost love,
Binding his hands and pulling him further into the shadows.
Anguish raced through his veins as they traveled through the day,
But by night fall the pain was replaced by anger and wrath.
So in the light of a moon colored scarlet like blood,
He murdered them all to avenge his loves lost soul.
His lips stained with his kin’s own blood.
He now stood in a clearing now drenched in scarlet.
Horrified by the terrible act he had done,
He fled to the trees disappearing forever.

Great rhyme, meter and flow...
...this is very well structured and excellent language used. I loved the line "As he watched a line of blood disappear into her dress" as it's truly superb. Just for the sake of curiosity, is this about Lucien and Sonia from 'Underworld'? If it is, then this poem is a very high compliment indeed
