Shivering.1
Knowing.2
She'd been infected by his seed. Invaded by him, as she had no control. And now, the spawn of this evil deed is growing inside of her. She doesn't blame the unborn child, but she blames him, hates him, and she hates herself. And this is how it started...3
A summer’s day, hot, sunny, the birds singing and all the blossom's were in full bloom and Michelle was taking her morning stroll along the park in the city where she lived. The day was in mid July, 1965, for most people, this was just another ordinary day in their busy schedule of working, chilling, doing whatever they did, but for Michelle, this was going to be the start for the best time of her life, or so she would think.4
She walked along the hydrangeas, which were pink and the flower heads seemed giant compared to the other flowers in the park. She chose a spot to sit down on the grass away from some of the other people, the groups of people braiding each other’s hair, meditating, playing guitar, reading and talking. When she read, she liked to be around people and surrounded by the bustle. But she didn’t want to join in, as if she was on the outskirts, the spectator. She sat down, opened up her book, about a young girl, named Frances, who meets a charming young man, a hopeless romantic, and, well, you can guess the rest...5
Sitting cross-legged on the green grass, engrossed in her book, she jumped as a hand grabbed her shoulder. She turned round and saw a face, smiling down at her.6
“Oh, I'm sorry, did I startle you?"7
She felt relieved when she saw his slightly familiar, friendly face, she blushed and tucked her hair behind her hair and replied,8
"Hey, um, sorry, I was just really into my book. Do I know you? You look familiar?"9
The man, who looked no older than nineteen, picked the book up from her hands, looked at the cover, and had an amused look on his face.10
"Well, I come to the park a lot, and I always see you, I thought that I had to come over and talk to you, so here I am. So what's your book about? Looks like a girl thing to me, " he joked.11
"Yeah, pretty much," she replied, "just, ya know, girl meets boy, they fall in love and stuff, very much a girl thing."12
They both laughed. Michelle felt slightly shy. She tucked her hair behind her ear once more, and started to fiddle with her blue ring, with a glass flower on it.13
"Listen, maybe I'm being a bit forward asking you this, but, um, ya wanna go for a coffee?"14
"Yeah!" she replied, a little more quickly than she had hoped. "I'd love to"15
She stood up, bent down the corner of the page she was on, so she wouldn't forget where she was, and they walked off together, so a small local coffee shop around the corner.16
Every so often, when she thought he wasn't looking, or wouldn't notice, she stole a glance at his handsome features, his long brown hair and his startling green eyes. He noticed her, looking at him every-so-often, but he pretended he didn't. He was used to girls like this, he was a charmer, though, and was able to talk to them easily. Whilst they were walking, he took hold of her hand. She blushed again, and tucked her hair behind her ear again.17
They sat down at a table next to the window and he bought her a herbal tea and a coffee for himself. Their hands wrapped round the mugs. The conversation, idle and small, feeling each other out, and getting to know each other - family, friends, hobbies, the kinds of things you talk about on a first date.18
“Yeah, so Eddie was pretty pissed about that” Simon laughed as he finished a story about his brother “I don’t think he ever got that car back to the way it was”19
They both laughed. But suddenly, Michelle become conscious of the time and realised she had to get home. Not that her parents minded her being too late, but she had told them she’d be home by 6 o’clock and she had a tonne of things to do at home. So she gave Simon her number and he gave her a kiss on the hand before she left the half-filled cold cup of herbal tea and left the little café and headed home.20
She walked quickly, eager to be alone in her room and think about this mysterious Simon. She half stumbled through the front door, kissed her parents and her little sister hello and ran up to her room, threw herself onto her bed and day-dreamed for hours until late about the man she had met that day. She couldn’t seem to take her mind off him!21
It was late by the time she realised she hadn’t done any of the things she was supposed to do. She needed to do her housework chores, to help out with her mother, who had M.E. and she also wanted to get some of her holiday work done for college.22
She set to work but realised someone had already done most of her chores, so she finished drying the dishes and tidying the kitchen. She dragged herself up the stairs and wrote and drew in her sketchbook for art before falling asleep, pen still in her hand.23
She had only had 5 hours sleep, when she woke at 8am, yet she still felt refreshed and awake. She took a shower, put on a flowery tom and some green bellbottoms, tied back the front strands of her hair with a clip after brushing it, and set out of the house, with her book, silently wishing she would, again, bump into Simon. She sat on the same piece of grass again, and just as if someone had answered to her calling, he appeared, as if from nowhere.24
“As if by magic, you’re here again.”25
She smiled as she heard Simon’s voice again. He took her hand and helped her stand, and they walked to the same coffee shop they had been to the previous day. Michelle was enthralled, captured by his presence. She couldn’t get enough of him. They talked for hours.26
And so, for days, weeks, months, they would meet at the coffee shop, and talk for hours, and this started to branch out to going to the theatre, and long walks.27
After some months, they were practically inseparable. They would spend a few nights at Simon’s house, then Michelle’s. Luckily, both families got on really well, and both adored their child’s better half.28
Time grew long and they became even closer, and finally the day Michelle had been waiting for had arrived. They were having a picnic in the same spot they had met, just a year and a half previously. Simone stood up and Michelle started to rise, thinking he was packing the finished morsels of food away, but he told her to sit back down again, he kissed her on the cheek and got down on his knee.29
“I love you Michelle, and, well, you’re you. I can’t see myself being with anyone but you, you’re special to me, you’re mine and this is my proof. Marry me!?”30
A single tear ran down Michelle’s cheek before she got up and wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered the one word Simon had longed for.31
“Yes!”32
Little did she know, this would be the worst mistake of her life33
