Affinity (Part 1)

Affinity is a feeling of kinship. Many times, it is love. For Michael and Kara, it was a gentle love, sweet kisses stolen by moonlight, fingers entwined, eyes locked, shining with deep emotion. It was comfortable silences, peaceful nights lying folded together beneath the sheets while nothing passed but words of love. It was the ring on her finger, a symbol of the eternity they had promised to spend together. 1

Kara, the sweet-faced, blond-haired, blue-eyed angel. To Michael, she was what made life worth living. Her dimpled smile brightened up his day. The purity of her blushes as he teased her about the freckles on her nose or as he whispered what he would like to do to her was like no other woman he had ever met. 2

She was five years younger than he was, only 24, though to all appearances they were deeply in love. For Kara, however, she had married Michael for all the wrong reasons. She tried to be a good wife; she knew he adored her, but she’d never truly felt anything for him, though she vowed he would never know. Even if she didn’t love him, she would never hurt him that way.3

But without the love she wished for, the lust she felt soon faded. She could almost feel it, her life, her youth slipping away as the clocked ticked and the minutes passed. She spent her time at the restaurant her husband owned, trying to keep her mind off her marriage. The restaurant only made things worse, however. He’d renamed it after they married, calling it Affinity, a way for him to show his love to her.4

As she sat miserable in a corner table hidden by shadows, a young man about her age walked in. She knew that face, but had to look twice to be sure she had not imagined it; she hadn’t. She hadn’t seen him in years, not since she’d left her hometown to move to the city to support her best friend, Nikki, who had gotten a part in a television series. Shane had followed her, though it had been some five years later, and was making a sincere attempt to win her over. 5

The man she now looked at, Cade, was Shane’s best friend. She supposed that was why he was in this city, and in this restaurant in particular. Shane and Nikki often visited Kara at her home-away-from-home. 6

She tried to slink back into the shadows, the hide behind her fears and the walls she had built between them so many years ago. He’d been her first: her first everything, actually. He’d taken her virginity, stolen her heart…and then he’d walked away. She’d never known why, never asked because she didn’t know if she could face the truth. And now here he was, bringing back bad memories and old hurts better left buried. 7

Well, damn it, she wasn’t just going to sit around and wait for him to see her. There were things that needed to be done. She started to slide back her chair, and just as she stood up, she felt the heat of someone’s eyes staring holes into her face. She turned her head and looked straight into a haunting image from her past…8

Author notes

Okay, Michael and Kara are actually two characters from the book I started to write about Nikki and Shane, and, like it says, Cade is Shane's best friend. They've all known each other since high school, except for Michael. This story is a little different from what actually happens in the book, but I think I like it...I'm not sure yet. LOL. Anyway, please comment and let me know what you think or how I can fix it. I'll post more of this story later.

What did you think? Please comment!

Hey! It's been a while since I've talked to you. Thanks for your comments, though. I'm not really sure how this will go, but I think there will end up being maybe some erotica (I'll make that chapter where people will still be able to understand the story if they skip it. LOL. I know some people don't like it), and probably a little horror, too. I just posted part II, if you're interested. My dad tells me I should be a writer instead of a designer, but I haven't figured it out yet. Lately I've been doing more writing, but I'll get bored after a while. Anyway. Ttyl.

    Luv ya J,

This is just a little part of a book I wrote, but the book was actually about Nikki and Shane. I have some stories posted about them, but this story is not really about them so I don't really describe them a lot. The only reason I mentioned them was because they were the reasons Kara and Cade had both come to the city. Anyway, thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.

I love it. Hurt with a hidden longing for happiness. Written well, a few errors but nothing major, the same kind of errors you see in published books. Great job with this, keep it up. I'll be sure to check out the rest when you post.

I like it, it's a very intriuging story. This part comes across as a little unclear to me: "She hadn’t seen him in years, not since she’d left her hometown to move to the city to support her best friend, Nikki, who had gotten a part in a television series. Shane had followed her, though it had been some five years later, and was making a sincere attempt to win her over. " just so you know. I thought the beginning characterization was great, but since it seems a longer story, it is hard to know what it is leading to.
