Their dark silhouettes stood out against the bright orange of the sunset. Their faces inched closer as he breathed, “No where else I’d rather be then here.” She closes the gap in between them in reply,
“There’s no other place I could be.” Slowly, gently he raised her chin ever so slightly toward his warm tender lips.
“If I could, I would take you right now.” He pressed her up against his perfect muscular body.
“I know,” she blushed.
“Your eyes are brown did you know that?” he grinned.
“I had no idea,” she blinked in mock astonishment.
“Your hair is brown and soft, did you know that?” he said stroking her long dark hair.
“Your full of it, did you know that” She smiled.
“Oh play along would you?” He whined.
“Fine.”
“Your skin is soft did you know that?”
“No,” She sighed.
“Oh, oh what’s this,” he gasped.
“Oh my god what!” She recoiled in fright.
“IT’S IN YOUR HAIR!” He reached onto her head and pulled something out. She squeezed her eyes shut and trusted him with her safety if this it was dangerous. “Its ok honey I got it.” He immediately relaxed.
“I want to see it.” She demanded.
“Are you sure, its pretty ugly.” Smirking he turned the thing over in his hand.
“Let me see it, I’m brave enough.”
“Ok, but I warned you,” he opened his hand to reveal a beautiful ring.
“Oh my…” her voice trailed off as she looked into his shining eyes. After all the years of joking around about it, she could tell that this was no joke. He nudged his head in her direction.
“Well?” He replied to her silent stare. She could tell he was growing impatient and nervous. Biting his lip. She knew he was wondering if this had all been too much, that he had scared her away. He guided her gaze straight into his eyes. She could see the yearning in his eyes. He needed her. It was no longer an adolescent crush like it had been in the beginning so long ago. This was the raw feeling of true love. The root pain of Shakespearean plays. The very thing that people lived for, that people died for, was staring her straight in the eye. Did he deserve her? Did she deserve him? “If I said no,” she thought. What would life be like? Her world would never be the same without him. It was as if he was the reason for her very existence. And yet she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She looked back into his eyes. He was growing impatient. Throwing himself into a state of panic as he scanned her face for any sign of an answer. She marveled at his expression. “It mattered to him so much that I merely move my face or breathe,” she gawked. Then finally she decided to end this touching torment of his soul.
Slowly with her escaping breath she gasped, “yes.”
His reaction could have sent a thousand rockets into the sky invisible fireworks lit his eyes. He Swung her.
“You scared me to death,” he released her from his strong grasp, “ I thought I’d finally messed up for real.”
“There is no way you could have messed this up.” She looked down at the ring that sat on her finger glistening in the now moon lit night.
This was her last night in her old life. In that moment her whole life had taken a dramatic turn… and yet…she wouldn’t have it any other way.
