The Fountain

The air was clear, the sky was blue.
I could hear my own heartbeat whenever you leaned over to kiss me.
My heartbeat played a melody, I'm sure it was a lovesong.
Your long black hair tickled me, and when I laughed, you'd punch me lightly in the shoulder.
Then you'd kiss me again. You didn't stop smiling for a second.
Neither did I.

It was in the middle of the day, and the sun was shining bright.
The colors of the town, mixed with the bright light, gave everything a shade of yellow. We were sitting on the edge of the fountain.
You occasionally touched the hot water.
The fountain was big, it filled the whole town-square.
Just like our love.
I could not stop kissing you.

The fountain had three levels.
The ground level was filled with clear hot water.
The next one, eight feet or so above, was a little platform with two angels on it. Both the angels were holding a cup.
Out of the cups flowed the beautiful water.
At the top, there was a third angel. The most beautiful one.
It was holding a large cup to the air, and water sprayed out of it.
The angel appeared to be smiling.
So were you.

Your soft lips pressed against mine. Over and over.
You were my everything. My whole world.
It was my favorite time of the year. The middle of summer.
I loved that place too. I loved the fountain.
I loved you.

Your beautiful pale skin regained its color in the bright light.
We both got rid of our sweaters. It was way too hot.
I loved the way you brushed your hair behind your ears whenever it would come in your way.
As I kissed you, I fumbled my hand down into my pocket.
Out came a little black box.
I backed off from you a bit, and showed you the box.
You looked shocked.

I opened the box, and turned it towards you, displaying the diamond-ring inside.
You couldn't believe your eyes, and I could see a tear running down the side of your face. Before I could even ask you the question, you threw yourself over me, and we both fell into the water.
As we lay there, soaked, we kissed again.
In between the kisses, I could hear your voice.
"Yes, Yes!"

Drops of water filled your face, and half of them were tears.
Tears of happiness.
I shed them too.

It was a moment I never wanted to end.
And in my heart, it never did.
In my heart, we're still there, in the fountain.
Kissing.

Author notes

In a moment of silence, I suddenly became happy =)
If just for a moment, I wanted to write something romantic, something beautiful. Not dark, but the opposite =D

This is how I want to propose =)

Beautiful- and I like the word MaiQuynh used: "fragile." It's light and airy and fragile, yes. It flowed great and was definitely happy, romantic, beautiful. Great job.

Great flow and I love the rhythm to this story. It was very touching and the story itself was very fragile. Good luck in the contest!

I like the bittersweet ending, and the way that you can't be sure whether it all turned out all right or not.

    Well done!

Even the color suits. You paint a word picture here, one can almost hear the fountain and feel the spray.

The narration becomes a song all it's own also, adding to the picture.

And being in love...yes...a shame it doesn't last forever...maybe, as you say...the memories will, enhanced by a poet.

    regards...

    interesting...

this is a poem right? if it is not, then your story structure is all messed up, if it is a poem, there is no flow to it. overall of the story/poem, the beginning was about outside, then touching, then kissing. repeat the same thing again. middle, is about the fountain that what the title is about. the imagery of the fountain is good. touching...kissing...you propose. then feelings of happiness...thats it. well, the story/poem is okay to me. thanks for entering my contest.

    Really Good!

Sorry I have my dog on my soulder,so I might have a few typing mistakes...Sorry.

It was really gooood. And I know I say this every time I comment but I really mean that the description was great...But a story can never have enough GOOD descripition.
It was really good and really enjoyed reading.
It would be good if gffffffffffffffff (sorry that was my dog) you could have some more...Actually my comment will all be positives: The title was what attracted me.
I just scrolled through the FEATURED STORIES and I read yours and some others beacause of the tite it was really good your story.
You really are a talented writer.
Actually your fricking good. Really good.
    Anyway,
    All the best in life,
    Thanks for your time,

    you make me "awwwwww" ^_^

    You wrote something happy!!! *dances*
And it's THE ROMANTIC HAPPY kind This is a pleasant surprise!!! ^_^

Even before your character took that box from his pocket, I had an idea that this would lead to a proposal... The mood, the two characters, the location... romance and love are just oozing from your story you write like a guy in love!!! and really, I think every female would love to have been in the position of this girl - the littlest things showed how much the guy in the story loves AND is in love with her

I especially love how you compared the two's love to the fountain - the fountain here IS beautiful! ANd, yes, fountains don't seem to run out of water, right? so the comparison or analogy is perfect, I believe...

Haha, I better end this before I rant on and on
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this with us may everyone get the same happy-lovey-romantic mood that this piece is wrapped in!
*will keep this in her bookmarks*

      Aww!
      Hehe *dances with Rachel*
I'm glad it was a pleasant surprise!

Hehe, I have been a guy in love, so I know what it's like
Hehe, I believe that love is some of the most important of things!
Like the quote on your page: "There are too many mediocre things in life to deal with and love shouldn't be one of them"!
I very much agree with that one

      And thanks!
I liked the fountain idea myself

Haha, rant all you want honey! hehe
I hope everyone will! It's my aim
