Understanding Caitlyn -Chapter 7-

Seven1

“How are you doing?” Kyle asked Caitlyn a few days later on the phone. Their relationship has been getting better and better. 2

“Uhm, okay I guess,” Caitlyn said, she still felt weird about going out with Kyle, though she did like him a lot.3

“Caitwyn, Caitwyn, who are you talking to?” Kyle heard a voice in the background on the phone.4

“I’m talking to Kyle,” Caitlyn said to the little girl, and then got back on the phone, “Sorry, that was Amber. Kyle, can I talk to you later, I’m going to go hang out with Amber” Caitlyn sounded anxious. Kyle thought that Amber would help Caitlyn without knowing it. Caitlyn seemed drawn very much to the little girl that had moved into “The Home with them. They said goodbye and hung up and Caitlyn went to Amber.5

“Hey girly,” She said and rumpled the younger girls hair.6

“Why do you have that thing in your eyebrow?” Amber asked innocently, and touched Caitlyn’s eyebrow ring as Caitlyn crouched down.7

“It’s an eyebrow ring. I don’t know, to be different I guess” 8

“Why do you want to be different?” Amber asked curiously.9

Caitlyn thought about it and picked up Amber and put her on her hip. Why DOES she want to be different?10

“I dunno. ‘Cause I’m tired of everyone being the same. Come on Amber, let’s go color or something, what do you want to do?”11

“Caitlyn! Phone!” Keri said and Caitlyn set Amber down on her feet and ran to the phone. 13

“Hello?”14

Silence was on the other end.15

“Hello? This is Caitlyn, anyone there?” Caitlyn said again.16

Click. The phone hung up.17

“Who was it dear?” Keri walked into the room, picking up Amber and tickling her.18

“Don‘t know. They hung up” Caitlyn said and the phone rang again making her jump slightly. “Hello?”19

“Hey,” Kyle said. “What’s up?”20

“Hi. Did you just call?” Caitlyn asked skeptically and laughed at Amber and Keri on the floor, Amber giggling non-stop as Keri tickled her.21

“No, was I suppose to?” Kyle asked and half laughed.22

“No, just someone called and asked for me, then when I answered they hung up.”23

“Who do you think it was? It wasn’t me.”24

“I don’t know.” Caitlyn said and smiled at Amber and Keri. 25

“Do you want to do something right now?” Kyle said and held his breath. He called and asked her every now and then if she wanted to, but she always said no. Still being scared of him.26

“Uhmm.” Caitlyn stalled. 27

“Okay, maybe tomorrow?” Kyle said and sighed sadly. Things weren’t going the way he hopped.28

“Well I want to hang out with you, but, what about Amber?” Keri had gone upstairs and Amber was waiting for Caitlyn to get off the phone. 29

“She can go too.” Kyle said and perked up.30

“What?”31

“Yeah, we can go eat somewhere and hang out.”32

“But..”33

“Common Caitlyn, there’s no reason for you not to. Unless you don’t want to go…” Kyle said to her, getting sad.34

“Uhmm, hold on. Let me ask Amber.” she held the mouth piece and looked to Amber. “Amber, do you want to meet a good friend of mine and go with him?”35

“Who is your friend?” Amber asked, still pronouncing the “R” in friend like a W. She looked at Caitlyn with her big brown eyes.36

“His name is Kyle.” 37

“Ohhh, is he your boyfriend?” 38

Kyle heard this and laughed, wondering what Caitlyn was going to say.39

“Kind of.” Caitlyn said and talked to Kyle. “Yeah, she wants to.”40

“Hi, are you Amber?”42

“Depends on who’s asking.” Amber said in all seriousness of a ten year 43

“Well, I’m asking, duh.” Kyle said and grinned at Amber as he lifted her in the truck. Caitlyn slid in after Amber and Kyle walked around the truck and got in. “Are you hungry Amber?” he asked as he backed out of their drive way. 44

“Yeah! Lets go to McDonalds!” Amber said excitedly. Kyle and Caitlyn looked at each other and Kyle grinned.45

“Right. That’s my favorite place to eat.” Kyle said and laughed.46

“Really? Mine too!” Amber said to Kyle, then turned to Caitlyn and whispered, “I like your boyfriend already!”47

“Glad I can get your approval Amber” Caitlyn said and ruffled Amber’s hair.48

Caitlyn and Kyle sat in the colored seats in the McDonalds play area. They watched Amber slide down the slide and laugh, running around.50

“Is this our first real date?” Kyle asked Caitlyn and grinned, looking around. “Well our first real date. I like it, it’s so 20th century.” Caitlyn laughed a little and looked at Kyle then looked down. “What is it?” Kyle asked.51

“Nothing, just not use to this.” Caitlyn laughed again.52

“Oh, I see.” Kyle said and grabbed Caitlyn’s hand and held it.53

“I think I like it though.” Caitlyn said and squeezed his hand. 54

“Me too, Caitlyn, me too.” Kyle said and kissed her cheek. “Want a fry?” he said and picked up his red fry box. Grinning.55

“So romantic.” Caitlyn said to him and threw a fry at Kyle.56
