Understanding Caitlyn -Chapter 6-

A few weeks later, Kyle laid on his bed listening to Nirvana and thought about Caitlyn. Him and Caitlyn were now getting closer than ever. They weren’t exactly going out, but they were a little more than friends. And Hunter got an apartment and a girlfriend, Christine. They looked cute together, and they sometimes double dated, it was fun. Kyle looked at his clock and sighed, 2am. He was really tired, but just couldn’t sleep. He cussed out loud then got up to switch CD’s. His phone rang as he fell back on the bed, he cocked his eyebrow and picked up the phone.2

“Hello?” he said into the receiver.3

“Kyle?” Kyle’s heart sped up, it was Caitlyn.4

“Yeah, it’s me. What’s wrong?” he held his breath. 5

“Nothing, everything, I don’t know. It‘s not too late to call is it?” She sighed. She sounded stressed6

“No, it’s fine. What happened?” he asked caringly.7

“I had a bad dream,” she sighed then sadly laughed. “You must think I’m a baby,”8

“I do not, I’ll come over if you want. I can’t sleep either,” Kyle said, wanting to see Caitlyn badly. 9

“Kyle,  its two am,” she said to him and kind of laughed.10

“So?” 11

“If you want to, I don’t think Keri will notice.”12

“Okay, I’ll be over in a few minutes,” Kyle said and smiled,  he really wanted to see Caitlyn. He was happy that they were getting closer. He and Caitlyn hung up the phone and he got dressed.13

“Hi,” Caitlyn said as she sat in Kyle’s truck.15

“Hi” he said back and smiled, then hugged Caitlyn and kissed her forehead, she pulled away from his kiss16

“I had a dream about being raped,” she said shakily, Kyle’s face changed suddenly. “by you.” she said and swallowed.17

“What? Me?” Kyle said, shocked. “I’d never do that! That’s crazy.”18

“I know, that’s why its kind of scary,” She admitted then looked up at him.19

“I’m sorry,” he said sadly. “But Caitlyn, I’d never, ever, hurt you,” Kyle looked down at his hands, then went up to touch her face then pulled back. He felt as if he touched her, she would break. Instead of touching her, he put the car in reverse and backed out of her driveway. “Do you think I’d do something like that?” Kyle asked.20

“I don’t think so,”21

“I wouldn’t.” He said firmly and put her hand in his, and squeezed it. He wished he could say more, more about his feelings. But he was too afraid of what she’d say. She’d be scared.22

Caitlyn sighed and pushed the middle console in his truck up and laid her head against his shoulder. Caitlyn smiled and looked up at Kyle.23

“Where do you want to go?” Kyle asked.24

“I dunno,” she said as her eyelids got heavy and drooped.25

“Caitlyn, I think we need to talk,” Kyle said hesitantly.26

“Okay,” Caitlyn sat up and looked at Kyle. “What do you want to talk about,” she asked, still holding on to his hand.27

“This,” Kyle said and held up their joined hands. “What are we Caitlyn? Friends? A couple?” Kyle let out a deep breath after he said it.28

Caitlyn thought about it, and didn’t say anything.29

“I don’t want to be just friends with benefits, I want something strong Caitlyn,” he said as he parked the car in an old gas station parking lot. “I think we can have something special.” he added then laughed, “that sounded kind of stupid,” he admitted and grinned then turned his body to look at her. “I don’t want to just be something that is on and off,”30

“I don’t know,” she said shyly. “I’ve never had.. I’ve never gone out with anyone.”31

“What? Really?”32

Caitlyn stayed quiet.33

“This isn’t a bad time to get one,” he said and grinned mischievously. Then was serious again. “It’s all up to you Caitlyn.”34

“It’s just, that sometimes, guys kind of, kind of scar me, you know?” She admitted.35

“You don’t need to be afraid of me,” 36

“I know.”37

“Good.”38

“Can we just take it slow?”39

“Of course,” Kyle said and raised her hand to his lips and kissed it. “What do you want to do? Go home?”40

“I don’t want to go to home, but, I don’t know where else we can go,”41

“We can stay here,”42

“What about Keri, and your parents,”43

Kyle thought about it, “we go back to your house and leave a note saying you left before they got up to work on some homework. I don’t need to tell my parents anything, they won’t care,” he said simply.44

“Uhmm, okay..” 45

A few minutes later Caitlyn went in her house and wrote the note and left it on the counter. It was 4:30am. She was tired, but she also wanted to spend time with Kyle. He was different then all the other guys she had had as friends. Even though she only had few friends, the boys out of them were always mean. She sighed and thought about how many times a guy has tried to take advantage of her. She shook her head and told herself she wasn’t going to think about that. Kyle wouldn’t hurt her. She told herself over and over. Kyle is different.46
