A Forbidden Life - CH 1 -

"Come on, I don't see what the big deal is!" Logan exclaimed, angrily, his irritation was more then evident in the redness that had filled his face.
"Just stop, Logan! I hate using my magic for such petty things, besides...it's not my problem, or my business if you can't get a woman into bed with you!" Charity replied, and couldn't help the grin of self-satisfaction that danced across her lips.
"It is if you're the reason for it."
"Now, that is just crazy, isn't it? I don't do that sort of thing!"
"Normally, I suppose it would be. But considering you don’t know how to let go, it's not quite so crazy." Logan retorted angrily, causing Charity to stop in her tracks, she turned to face him and he realized her eyes had turned to that ice blue color they tended to switch to when she was angry.
"I'm warning you, Logan...DONT piss me off!" She exclaimed, the ice that sprang up around her feet, had Logan stopping in his own tracks. "If you want someone to go to bed with you, use your own powers."
"I can't over write yours and you damn well know it."
"Again, not my problem." The ice had melted just as quickly as it had appeared and stained the sand at her feet a dark brown, and her eyes weren't quite such a bright blue anymore. But Logan knew better than to push the subject, he'd felt the coldness of her wrath before, and he was certainly in no hurry to feel it again.
The fact that she could make ice spring out of the sand, on a beach in Hawaii, in the middle of the summer was bad enough.
"I'm leavin' now, so go...find you a new woman and talk her into your bed if you like...but leave me be." Charity told him as she stepped into the water.
The golden blonde curls of her hair slowly stretched to hang straight as a pin clear down to her lower back. Her skin lost the bronze of the fake tan, and returned to its creamy white, and finally her waist and legs pulled together in a tale of amethyst jewels as she swam off, just as quick as ever. Logan watched her while he could, and then turned away.
He wanted her, nothing more, and no one else. But she didn't seem to want to settle with just one man, she loved to have her way with as many men as she could. He knew she hadn't cast any spells on any women, he had plenty of them after him; his problem was that he didn't quite want any of them.
The truth of it was, he wasn't supposed to be around Charity at all. It wasn't recommended that their types mixed, as a matter of fact it was forbidden. Supposedly, something had happened between the king of the dragon world and the king of the mer-people, some sort of falling out that had happened long ago, before Logan's father had even become king, and Logan couldn't help but wonder if anyone even remembered what the whole fued was all about. But his father had issues with the fact that he had already had one too many run ins with Charity, and he was sure that her father was just as angry. Logan took off for the ocean at a run and took a leap into the air. His feet never hit the water as ridges and scales appeared along his back, his nose and jaw extended together and his body grew even longer than before, his new form shimmered with the Sapphires along his back that gleamed in the sun. He flew over the ocean, his eyes trained on the water beneath him. When he finally spotted her, he took a nose dive into the ocean and managed to come out with her tail gripped gently but firmly between his huge teeth.
"LOGAN!" Charity screamed, she didn't need to look to see who it was, she'd known he wouldn't just walk away. It wasn't in his blood to give up, and she'd known he would catch her as soon as she had heard him splash into the water. "What do you think you're doing?" She demanded but of course, he couldn't answer her in his present form and simply kept going. Charity groaned, and let him carry her along.
“Logan, isn’t there any other way you can carry me? If I keep hanging from my tail this way, I’m going to be sick.” She cried, and in response, Logan threw his head back and let her flip over his head until she landed on the back of his neck.“Where are we going?” She asked, her voice clearly portraying the weariness that her yawn emphasized. “I’m getting a little sleepy.” She added in a low murmur, and stretched herself out along the back of his neck. His long body began to change colors, from the points of his ears, down to the tip of his tail, the sapphire blue gave way to a soft blushing pink. Charity saw the change as she closed her eyes, and again felt another smile play across her lips as she drifted into sleep.
Logan flew until the sun finally sank into the water, coloring the sky a darker and deeper blue. He spotted a small island just ahead that was blanketed with trees and decided to land, if only for the night. He slowly lowered his feet to the ground, and carefully manuevered Charity off his back.
He blew a breath of air over the ground so that a pillow and blanket appeared on the sand. He lay Charity upon the blanket and pillow, before curling up and tucking one wing around her to keep her warm, as he fell into sleep.1

Charity woke a few hours later, to find herself tucked under Logan's wing. Her tail had begun to fade, due to the lack of water, and so with a wave of her hand, she put herself in black sweat pants and a purple sweater, she decided not to bother with anymore of her physical appearance, seeing as Logan knew how she truly looked anyways. With another wave of her hand, a table and chairs rose from the sand, fit with table cloth and dishes. She took a seat and tried to figure out what to eat.
"Eating without me?"
"Not quite. I can't decide what I want." Charity replied, only mildly surprised that he had changed without her noticing.
"How can you eat without light?" Logan asked.
"I'm talented that way." Charity told him with a smirk, and Logan laughed.
"I can think of many ways that you are talented, but that wasn't one that came to mind." He replied, and with a blow of his breath, two candles floated over the center of the table, the flames dancing in the gentle breeze.
"So, what sounds good to you?" Charity asked.
"Hmm...something Italian." He replied with a shrug.
"Alright, then." Charity held a fisted hand over the table, and pebbles of what looked like sand began to fall from her hand, but as it hit the plates and table, it changed to different food dishes. Charity indulged herself with a plate of shrimp alfredo and a Pepsi, and gave Logan a four cheese lasagna and Coke, remembering that he prefered it over Charity's choice of Pepsi, and in the center of the table, under the floating candles there was now a basket of garlic bread.
Charity lowered her hand with a smile, and began to eat. Logan watched her for a moment, before starting his own meal, and even then kept his eyes on her. When they finished eating, Charity stood and stretched with a yawn as she headed again for the pillow and blanket that lay in the sand. Logan gave another exhale of his breath, and another blanket apeared over the first one, this one was thicker and bigger, along with a second pillow.
"Well, if you're going to do that, you may as well go all the way and just..." Charity waved her hand, and a full canopy bed rose out of the sand, complete with black drapes around and over the four posts of the bed.
"Show off." Logan replied, with a chuckle, and Charity smiled. The two of them climbed into the bed, Logan taking great care to be sure he didn't touch Charity as they crawled under the covers.
"Why haven't you asked?" Logan asked, the curiosity was eating at him.
"Why haven't I asked what?"
"Where we are, how long we're staying, why I took you in the first place, where we might be going next...anything. You haven't asked a single question."
"I did too. Earlier before i fell asleep, I asked where we were going." Charity replied, easily.
"You know what I mean...that question wasn't even real, the only reason you even asked was because you wanted to sleep."
"Maybe I don't care about what the answers might be...or maybe I don't even want to know the answers anyway."
"Why?"
"Don't you think it's tiring to be told what to do all the time? What you can do, what you can't. Who you can see, who you can't?"
"Yeah, I do. It doesn't mean that you feel the same way." He shrugged.
"well, that's why I don't care. I don't care if we stay here forever...or if we just keep going, never staying anywhere for more than a few hours or a few days...I just don't care. And if you do eventually take me back...then too bad, I'll get over it, won't I?"
"You talk like you don't want to go back."
"Maybe I don't." Charity stated, with a shrug.
"Aren't you worried about being stuck with me?"
"Logan, if I didn't want to be with you right now, I wouldn't be. Besides...if I feel the need to have a little fun, I'll just swim off for a while." Charity replied, teasingly. To this, Logan had no responce. He simply rolled onto his side, with his back to her, and began to think that maybe he should have let her be. And even began to consider letting her go back, if she didn't want to be around then why take her away with him in the first place?
"Logan...?" Charity murmured, sounding confused at his sudden silence.
"What?" He snapped.
"Don't get short with me! What is your problem?" Charity hissed, ready to push him out of the bed, just for the satisfaction of hearing the THUMP when he hit the sand.
"You can't be serious. How is it you're the only one that can't see it?"
"See what?" She demanded.
"What you do to me, for God's sake! You've got me all torn up inside. One day you want me in every way I could ever dream of, and the next you're simply brushing me off like it's no big deal. And I feel like a complete fool...who has ever heard of a man getting all screwed up this way over a damn woman!" His response didn't make her smile, though her heart nearly burst with the feelings he admitted too, if she had thought he truly felt that way about her, she may not have played hard to get quite so well...maybe. She had to admit, at least to herself that it had been somewhat entertaining...but if she had believed that she had been hurting him by doing so, then she certainly wouldn't have done it.
"What am I supposed to do? Don't you think I know how it feels to be hurt? To have my heart broken? It's happened a few times, so what was I supposed to do, Logan? Wear my heart on my sleeve so that you can hurt me just the same as all the others did? And besides, it's not like you ever tried to let me know how you felt...not really. You made it clear that you enjoyed having sex with me, but that wasn't what I wanted and it certainly wasn't enough to keep me around for a lifetime with you...especially since I'm leaving my entire family behind."
"Why would I hurt you? I thought I was making it pretty clear how I felt about you...and not just about the sex. Apparently our signals got crossed somewhere..." He replied with a small laugh. "I love you Charity...and that's not going to change. I would never hurt you. And I hope, that you can see that." Logan explained, facing her again. He reached out and gently brushed his fingertips along her cheek. Color rose into her face, a soft pink blush. Charity was tempted to smile.
"Why didn't you ever say anything...about how you felt about me?" Logan asked, after a moment.
"What would I have said? And why would I have said anything? Like I really wanted you to know that I was falling for you." She replied, and Logan smiled.
"Falling for me, huh? Have you finished falling?" He asked, and again brushed his fingers accross her cheek. Charity tried to bite back the smile, but couldn't and finally gave in.
"I finished falling six months ago...at least!" She laughed.
"Well, good." He replied, and slid his hand around to cup the back of her neck then leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

That was very good! It was not so much forbidden love as I would have liked, although I did see it. But other than that your story was very sweet, one where I just want to go awwww. I likes how it ended, that has to be an amazing feeling finding out the one you love, loves you too, and you played that up very nicely.

Thank you so much for entering my contest. Good Luck!!!

I liked the storyline, and i liked the way, we got a feel of the characters personalities, but but if possible, could you try and develop the whole, mermaid/dragon thing a bit more? Cuz you kinda mention it and then move on. Nonetheless, good job! And could you try and make it a tad longer? thanks

The beginning is really good, just a little shaky. I think the way you put it together and ended is amazing. Just enough of a cliff hanger that you don't get a bunch of comments about its just left but, it left it at i will definately be looking for another one.

    beginning: 3, language: 5, plot: 5, ending: 5, dialog: 4, characters: 2.

If you could start a new line evertime someone talks in the begining and divide it up into more paragraphs i think it would be a lot easier to read

that was a great story but i really think you should have added a little more to finish it off... and between dialogue, maybe make paragraphs? it wouldn't make it as confusing. anyway, you did an awesome job and i hope you'll finish it.

This is a bit longer than the limit I put on and it is a bit happy, but still it is longer than I said it should be. I will let you stay for now, but if I alot of people want to enter I am going to have to DQ you, sorry.
It is a nice story though, fantasy is fun.
May I suggest some paragraphs, just to break it up a bit, it makes long stories easier to read.
    Good luck.

First off, the color of the text does not go well with the color of your background. Secondly the paragraphs are all slammed together and hard to read. But, getting through all that, the story and entertaining. There were a handful of errors here and there, but ntohing a little rereading wouldn't catch and fix. Anyway, thanks for entering into the contest.
