Everything is Going to Heaven

It begins with the trees. They are moving wildly back and forth like an animal shaking its head and body to be free of a trap. The trees are wishing to break loose, to tear away from the earth. Then they do. Roots rip out of the ground as long black and brown fingers. These roots float in the air, waving back and forth as the wind flicks off black and brown dirt from the tips. Then other things begin to move up into the sky. Small children, squirrels, grasses (colors of pinks, browns, and greens) all floating gently upwards. After this it is cattle, giraffes, and humans of all shapes and colors, rising up and taking their leave of what has not been a happy home. The people float up in all different positions, the soles of feet or the tops of heads or the fullness of pregnant bellies pointed downward from where they are escaping. There is no discomfort. 1

If what we have been waiting for all this time was forgiveness then we've been forgiven. If it had been the right time that we were waiting for then the right time has come to us. It was quite clear that everything was going to heaven. 2

Hills and mountains give a shrug of their shoulders and then are loose and likewise afloat, with trees, shrubs, and black rocks sticking to them like prickly strange whiskers. Creatures of the seas and lakes break the watery surface and keep rising. Then even the mighty oceans lift and start flowing upwards into the sky. The earth was being reduced to an empty ball, a scarred rock. 3

Some things begin to fall as if all the pockets of all the people were being turned inside out and shaken clean of even the smallest pieces of lint. What falls out are all our problems. Fear of death, pains of desire, are leaving us, falling away. Broken dreams, like dead birds spin and crash on the rocks below. Disease of soul and spirit fill the sky like the senseless scribblings of a child, and then fall away. Now all the hurt is far away and we are in movement. 4

The last to be free is the sky itself as it rips itself loose along the horizons. It seems as some tent being lifted up and blown away, or a large bird rising up and gathering itself together for flight. 5

We are in a capsule of blue with animals and dirt and clouds and trees, afloat and at peace. Like a soap bubble in the wind we sail away. 6

From afar off the earth was a dark and evil looking face. Or perhaps it was giving us a look of repentance and sorrow, wishing that it too could join us in our happy movement. 7

Suddenly, and for a moment only, I am lying in a bed in a dark place. My chest is filled with pain. I won't believe this, and am back on this journey, now moving past the planets, moons, and stars. Then again I'm in this strange place, the air is sterile and warm. There is too much pain. I move my hands and make small circular motions. I break free of this and am again in this vehicle of life, moving towards a better home, a new place. Everything is going to heaven, and I am going with them.8

Renee: thanks for your comments, now my turn to feel bewildered. Especially thanks for enjoying this writing as it has not been too appreciated in the past. Sometimes I get so low I write my own glowing reviews of my writings. (pathetic confessions) Your comments outshined my own. thanks again.

    Absolutely Fabulous

"like prickly strange whiskers" - I really like this
The ending gave me a picture of a guy trying to catch up. "Wait for me!" This was quite different from anything I've ever read... ever. The prose was very descriptive and interesting with your similes. You have a talent of mushing wit and seriousness together. I love that. Really well done.

Thanks again, any thing that doesn't work for you let me know. You write this stuff but are too close to it to know what does or doesn't work, you only know your intent. thanks again.

put me in mind of a snow globe, when you shake it and turn it upside down, chaos, and yet as you watch everything settles back into place like it belonged there the whole time. i liked how you described the mountains.
