Family Matters, Chapter Four [revised]
My Enemy- My BEST FRIEND
“Ai- you- me” One, two, one, two. Ayumi went uncaringly, a bored look on her face. She hated the game with every fiber of her being. She only played because of her two friends- One a red headed girl named Leaf, a blue haired girl called Miyu. Miyu and Ayumi got along most of the time, but Leaf made her crazy. There was an incident where Leaf came over her house with Miyu and Ayumi stole her father’s closing out of his closet. Leaf tied Miyu up and tried to put a diaper on her but Miyu ran like a chicken with her head cut off. All of this was wonderful until Ayumi slipped and slammed her head against a desk. Roronoa walked in less than ten minutes later with Hazuki and Yuuen, ending the fun all too soon. He was pissed, his face was red and it told her so. He had visited her uncle who was called “Shihai” but received the name “fruit loop” in their home. He looked really angry when he found Ayumi on the floor in his room, bleeding from a bump with a cut on it. She looked as though she was ready to pass out but he kept her awake by placing an ice pack on her forehead, constantly warning her that she’d fall into a deep sleep and she wouldn’t be able to escape from it if she fell asleep. At first she claimed not to care, claiming she was too tired to stay awake. Hearing this, he dropped ice down the back of her shirt; making her scream so hard she had a sore throat for three days.
“I’m bored of this game,” Leaf said, kicking the pebble they had been using away. She kept fooling around with her blue dress, why she wore dresses Ayumi didn’t know. But that was probably because she HATED dresses with every fiber of her being. Her father tried to dress her in one for her aunt’s wedding- he failed for a while until he played his last card- the guilt card. He walked out of the room and left her there for two minutes, no words said. Eventually she grabbed the dress, slipped it on and begged him to forgive her for her churlish behavior.
She hated the dress because it was white with flowers over the chest. She begged him to let her wear sneakers but he forced her into proper wear. She sat infuriated in her seat until they reached the church. She won’t though because there was a mud fight and she “accidentally” got hit 10 times.
“What to do…?” Miyu’s voice was so soft. She reminded Ayumi of a baby- innocent. Not a Hazuki form of a baby, that’s the devil’s child. At times Miyu did have evil thoughts, which she said out loud without thinking. All three of them called it “An Ayumi moment.” Sadly, whenever Ayumi did that, it was just Ayumi being Ayumi.
“We should search for rollie polies! Squee!” Leaf was hyper and it was evident because she always said squee when she was hyper like when Ayumi said “neh” when she was bored, didn’t want to say something, or felt like being rude.
“I want to eat a worm…” Ayumi’s right eye twitched, the thought and taste tortured her. “Add a little salt and it tastes just like chicken…” She licked her lips.
“Ew! You fuckin’ weirdo,” Leaf said, taking a step back. Now Ayumi and Leaf would get into a fight. Ayumi lunged at her and grabbed two fistfuls of red locks, then pulled. Miyu watched this, putting her hands over her ears as though this were a truly horrible sight.
Leaf tried to slap Ayumi on the back of the head; they were about the same height so the fight was fair. The fights were common, which is why no one bothered to help either of them.
Leaf started biting Ayumi’s skin and Ayumi tried to pull her off by her hair. Only when Leaf’s teeth were gnawing on her skin, only when Ayumi pulled her hair up so her face was above her, only when Ayumi’s right hand made contact with Leaf’s eye did the two stop. Ayumi’s grip on her hair slipped and Leaf fell to the floor, crying, kicking and screaming as she grabbed her eye.
Only THEN did a lunch aid walk over and pick the two girls up by the back of their shirts. Ayumi thrashed violently as they were carried to the nurse but Leaf kept crying.
“Your parents are being called. You think about what you’ve done.” The aid walked away. Leaf got an ice pack; Ayumi got rubbing alcohol and a band-aid on an open bite.
“Stupid.” Ayumi glared harshly at her friend. Friend, was that the proper word?
“You hit me first.” Leaf glared back.
“You cussed.” Ayumi stood.
“Your daddy!” Leaf stood and took a few steps closer. Of course Roronoa cussed, he cussed more than Zaku and Ayumi did when they were angry- Roronoa was ALLOWED to cuss because he was an adult but when he and Ayumi had gotten into a phase where he didn’t want her cussing, he paid her a quarter or a dollar (Sometimes five) for every time he cussed. Still, she couldn’t help but feel angry at the statement.
“Don’t you bring my dad into this you-“
“Ayumi Saikeishi and Leaf Kusinagi please report to the main office.”
Both of them growled at each other, Ayumi slipped out first, glaring at her friend.
Their principle wasn’t weird…she just acted like a nut case.
In the principle’s office…
“So I heard there was a scuffle on the playground today?” Principle Fuyutsuki didn’t seem to notice how beat up Leaf was compared to Ayumi. Leaf had a torn blue dress that had black blotches on some of its major spots. Ayumi simply scoffed at the principle’s observation.
Yes, of course the parents were there. Mother was there for Miss Leaf and Father for Miss Ayumi. Why? Because they were the dictators of the house. Ayumi didn’t look upset, she just sat there with a cold expression- waiting for her principle to tell her that she was going to receive two detentions and had to come to school early to serve them.
Roronoa wasn’t acting too upset about it, either. He knelt down next to his daughter and whispered in her ear, “Why didn’t you aim for her mouth?”
She smirked at her father’s question and crossed her arms.
“Mr. Saikeishi, Miss Kusinagi, I can no longer tolerate this behavior-”
Leaf, being the one to always ask a question now instead of later, raised her hand. With a sigh, the principle pointed over to her.
“What does ‘tolerate’ mean?” Her question made Ayumi snicker. Ayumi heard the word tolerate from her father whenever she and Zaku started fighting and decided to pick up furniture and other things to throw at each other. He said they needed to learn to ‘tolerate’ each other’s differences.
“Tolerate means to accept, Miss Leaf- And I can no longer tolerate your behavior. Whatever you and Miss Ayumi have against each other should not be taken out on school grounds and it shouldn’t be physical at all-”
“Woah, woah, woah, sir. That little…girl there was the one who attacked my precious baby,” Miss Kusinagi broke into his conversation, trying to defend her child. “You should suspend her- do anything to get that little monster off of school grounds-”
“Hold up lady, that’s my little monster you’re talking about and I’ll be DAMNED before I sit here and let you start talking shit about any of my kids,” this time it was Roronoa who stepped in.
“Ugh! Do you see how this man acts? No wonder his child is insane!” Miss Kusinagi outstretched an arm and pointed at Roronoa as though he was a witch and she was telling the world.
“Don’t you point that damn finger at me you-” Roronoa wasn’t going to have this but the principle wasn’t either.
“PEOPLE! People please! Both of your students are suspended for five days starting Monday. The school cannot tolerate this behavior and we will not. I don’t care who started the fight the problem is; both of your students added fuel to the fire and kept it going. Now,” the principle stood from his seat, “good day to you all.” He shooed them out with a hand.
Both children stood up next to their parents and the parents just stared at the principle as though they were ready to lunge at his throat. He managed to slip away out of the room and as the parents glared at each other, the kids glared at each other. If electricity could come out of eyes, the room would be in flames. The children walked out first; Leaf then Ayumi- next was the parents. Miss Kusinagi then Roronoa- Roronoa tripped her at first and she glared at him and stood, brushing at her red skirt as though trying to gain her composure before walking again.
Wait, who are the kids again?
